What’s the “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” movie about?
Mikael Blomkvist (Daniel Craig from Casino Royale and Knives Out) is a business journalist for the magazine Millennium. Convicted of libel, he decides to distance himself from his life and his job. But Henrik Vanger (Christopher Plummer from The Last Station and The Exception), a major figure in Swedish industry, calls on him to investigate an unsolved murder, that of Harriet Vanger (Joely Richardson from The Tudors), the great man's niece who disappeared at the age of 16. During his research, Blomkvist realizes that the Vanger family seems to hide many hatreds and secrets. In the course of his investigation, the journalist meets Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara from Carol and The Social Network). The twenty-four-year-old woman has an exceptional gift, that of discovering information that cannot be found. The two of them are going to be brought to cross paths in an investigation that will reveal much more than anyone could have imagined…

    I love the dialog of him explaining how fear of offending can be more powerful than the fear of pain. Sometimes you wonder how people can let themselves be put in a bad situation, knowing there's a chance they could get hurt, simply to avoid the thought of offending someone, but it happens all the time.

    It’s because the torture and the pain isn’t real until it’s happening. Mikael thought he was still under the radar, he thought he was smarter than Martin and that Martin didn’t know what he was up to. Maybe he thought that if he went along with it, he wouldn’t make Martin suspicious. But Martin was always one step ahead because he knows how the human mind really works. I bet when Mikael was hanging there, if Martin puts a drink on the table and tells him “I’d love for you to try this amazing wine before I remove your organs”, before letting him down off the harness, Mikael won’t be so concerned about offending him: guaranteed, because pain and death is close and real, he’s making a run for it.

    Brilliant movie. So sad they couldn’t get Fincher to do the entire trilogy. Sony’s choice to jump forward w/‘Spiders Web’ was poor, then compounding that mistake with a screenplay that bore almost no resemblance to the book on which it’s supposedly based was diabolical. Who takes a best selling novel and adapts a movie of same title that is unrecognisable in story? Sony deserved to lose a boatload of $$ on that epic fail.

    @@Koinoyokan01 I had been told years back by a friend, who’s an ILM sound engineer that worked extensively on the movie, Craig, Mara, Wright and Fincher were all on board. They in fact had a script for Played with Fire and Hornets Nest with plans to shoot both films simultaneously. Sony however was having some executive wrangling and financial issues, they did not approve the script. The screenwriter, he wrote this screen play adaptation for Fincher, then declined to re-write and left the project. A 2nd writer came aboard and Fincher declined the draft. At that point the delays were pushing into Craig’s availability due to a Bond film, Robin Wright for a project and Fincher for his next project. Eventually it was Sony that pulled the plug entirely and decided a re-boot with the new series and all new characters. Just another in long line of poor decisions by Sony Media 🤦‍♂️

    The entire Steig Larsson Trilogy: This one (Dragon Tattoo), The Girl who played with Fire and The Girl who Kicked the Hornets Nest (READ them is best) are on KZread, with another two actors, not this one. The whole Trilogy is very accurate from the books, except for a few minor variations, but nothing to detract from the full story. WELL WORTH THE WATCH 💯

    Haha, did you notice Martin is catched because he never lock doors in the movie: 1. In this scene, Martin lets the door open when he enter in the room behind Mikael... He should have just locked the door and Lisbeth wouldn't have been able to get in, or even guess that they were there. 2. Later, when Martin runs away with his deformed bloody face, he still has the option of closing the door and locking them in. But he doesn't. 3. A bit before in the movie, Mikael has serious doubts about Martin and manages to get into his house through an unlocked door. 4. Before, when Mikael is having dinner with Martin and his wife, Martin leaves the room because a door seems to have been badly closed. It seems to give a first strange feeling to Mikael. 5. During all the movie, Martin encourage Mikael to continue his investigation and he even open the doors of the archive room to Liesbeth. So why? For me, it is a kind of unconscious and slow motion suicide. He is not brave enough do it by himself. So he does everything to get Mikael and Liesbeth to do it. He does not close any doors until they can kill him.

  • @goodguykonrad3701

    @goodguykonrad3701

    Eh, not how I would interpret that. I feel like it would more reflect a character flaw of his with regards to his sister. He knows that he could be caught by allowing the investigation to happen, and by helping it at points, but he wants to know what happened to his sister. He can't leave that door closed, he has to know what happened to his sister. This is what the open doors would reflect in my opinion. Not to mention that a desire for suicide is completely contrary to his character. We see no regret, no remorse, no worry for what he's doing. Instead he takes immense pride and pleasure from what he does, dedicating a substantial amount of time and money into ensuring he can pursue this discipline properly. When a killer like this enjoys what they're doing and doesn't see it as wrong, they have no reason to feel guilt or a desire to be destructive. This is further emphasised in this scene by his disgust for his father who had more emotional reasons for doing what he did.
