My wife had 3 miscarriages before we had our little micro-preemie boy. We weren’t dealt the perfect hand, but we now have a healthy very smart 7 year old. Anyone who has gone through a miscarriage should not have to suffer in silence. God for James Blunt for tackling this subject.

First of all he puts his own pain in this song, because he and his wife had a miscarriage. I don't think he would make such a song without knowing the pain. And the old man in the Monsters video was actually his father. He made a song for him because he was dying of chronic kidney disease and desperately needed a kidney donor. Luckily he received one last minute and survived

The thing that keeps me watching this music video - even though it leaves me sobbing every time - is just seeing how absolutely destroyed James Blunt is as he’s singing. Even while the projector images are playing across his face, you can see the immense pain and sadness he is experiencing. It’s amazing and mesmerizing, even though it is incredibly gut-wrenching. I don’t know if he just wasn’t trying to hide it or if it was too much to hold back, but it’s pouring out of him.

  • @christinestromberg4057

It's actually hos own pain, written after a miscarriage they had. He often writes about events in his life, from his father nearly dying, to times in his life in the army, with No Hero. James was a British army major, a tank commander, in Kosovo and at one point averted what could have been world war three by disobeying a direct command. He's a very special person and actually very witty, but also very emotional.

I went to see him in concert a few weeks ago and he was excellent. Very good performer and incredibly funny. I doubt there is a better songwriter anywhere but he does write songs based on his own experiences but he isn't a miserable man.

ALL of James’ lyrics are based on personal experiences! He has 2 sons but him and his wife desired a daughter , the daughter they conceived , they lost to miscarriage hense this song , you’ll notice as the song goes on the room gets packed up from a full nursery to an empty room . You don’t do that without the experience!!!

I find it bizarre that so many people commenting on the reaction are so lacking in emotional intelligence that they can't tell the difference between nervous laughter, which is simply an emotional release from the stress and upset of the content, and laughter borne out of a lack of respect or empathy. It's why some people have nervous laughter at funerals, or when jump scared, or when they hurt themselves. If you took the time to put their 'laughter' into the context of the apprehension they were expressing, what they were discussing and even the tears that were evident, you might view it differently.

It’s something he and Sofia went through. And this song leaves me bawling every time. I lost my twin sister and although I never met her I still miss her every day. Her name would have been Katharina. I miss her so much everyday. It’s been 17 years and whenever I’m sad I wish her by my side. It’s like some part of me is missing.

If you want a real time exposure to some of his sources... No Bravery uses clips he shot of Kosovo when he was a command officer of 30,000 troops or Carry You Home showing him handing to a wife the dog tags and family letter troops write to loved ones when they go into combat. Even the line in Monsters is taken from the common sentiment when a son or daughter is serving in their parent's command, as was the case with James and his father. The theme is, in essence, I'm not your father, your not my son we're just two soldiers doing our jobs. His father would have said this to him on more than one occasion. His inspiration comes in ways most people don't experience directly but he sure knows how to put it into words. The obverse might be seen in the Warning Rock Band where the drummer writes most of the lyrics and has produced some real tear jerkers (Breathe & Black holes to name two) which she sings at the piano. They are too young to have experienced the themes but she reads a lot and has collateral understanding of specific events and her understanding is vivid. The band produces some terrific music and then every so often they just stop you in your tracks with a soft creativity that makes it hard to imagine it coming from a young teenage girl. All that said, you are an excellent team worth coming back for more. Take care David

That is how he got "credited", so to speak, with preventing world war III and was were I first picked up the 30,000 reference so I think your measurement is more realistic in real circumstances. I think the 30,000 was probably intended for the total presence Clark had ordered to go in after the Russians. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. Take Care David

Music is meant to stir emotions, happy or sad, and every songwriter's goal is to be able to write a song that moves people in the way that this song moved y'all 😢 and James Blunt also has the look of perpetual pain on his face when he sings which adds another layer of emotion to the song. If Lelia is going to bring songs like this for a reaction, she needs to create a customized box of IYP tissues for the table. 😂😂 Great song, great reaction. Puff puff pass 🙏✌️

To the people criticizing the three women for occasionally laughing or seemingly having a "good time", it's obvious (to me, at least) that they were just trying to break up the sadness (you can see it in their faces, for goodness' sake), to hold it together as much as possible until the end of the video, especially when they had no idea what it was going to be about. It's also obvious they weren't trying to be disrespectful. The woman in red even mentioned she knows a woman who had suffered such a loss & who has set up a non-profit to support women who have experienced this. But haven't we all done this? Haven't we all tried to crack a joke or lighten the mood, if just briefly, in the face of unrelenting sadness or seriousness? If you haven't, then maybe just try to understand that there's no one right way in dealing with something like this. Please, just allow people to be human & not be judged for failing to meet some standard that you think they haven't met. I just think it's counterproductive to gatekeep how others should react.
