The Giant of Fear - 1 Samuel 17 - Skip Heitzig

One of the most paralyzing of all human emotions is fear. It can rob us of reason and faith. It makes a bad situation worse than it really is, and it saps us of energy and confidence. David would write later on, “I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears” (Psalm 34:4). But in our story today he faced a fearsome giant (literally) that his country was in dread of. Let’s consider how fear works and by what means it can be defeated.
This teaching is from the series Hunting Giants with Skip Heitzig from Calvary Church.
00:00 Introduction
07:12 Fear Is Intimidating

Thankyou so much. I never knew what people mean when they say God spoke to me. I don't know if this is how he does. But I'm in a very hard situation in my life, and I had the worse night in a while. And while baking in the morning, I just had a sudden need to open KZread and came across your video. I felt every word. Thankyou so much. May God bless you. You surely let God save people like me through you. Thankyou

Great message! Thank you. I had to learn about fear the hard way and my life verse is actually 2 Tim. 1:7. I did not even know I was living in fear until I got sober in 2013. I asked God why I drank like that and He showed me it was fear. So I wanted to know 1) why we fear; and 2) how to walk through fear so I can enjoy this gift of life. What has come out of that is a small book titled "F' Fear (Footsteps through Fear toward Freedom)." The F stands for the 5 steps I used to walk trough fear with the 6th F referring to freedom. God has also been developing a Fear Ministry, and this past weekend I was able to share a Fear Message at a local church. I have fun talking about fear, and my prayer is for a movement (like a domino effect) of people actually walking through fear and having fun doing it and sharing stories. I honestly believe that church members will not live in their purpose until they have addressed their fears. Fear is part of our identity (you stated we learn fear) and it becomes a part of us. We have to be willing to discard that identity and do life differently ... trusting/fearing God. One of the saddest stories to me in the Bible is the Israelites not inheriting the Promised Land, because of fear and not trusting God (even though they saw His mighty hand). Fear robs us ... but it can only do so, if we allow it. Pastor Skip, I would enjoy speaking to you for a few minutes re: this subject. As I was writing about destructive fear (causing us to run away from God like Adam and Eve), I had to learn about constructive fear when God says "fear Me ... fear of God," which is first mentioned in the Bible when Abraham was about to sacrifice Isaac. God bless you and thank you again for your heart and ministry!

A good bible study, just a shame that the imagery is Europe tricky & not reflective of historical people of that region. Nevertheless, Yahweh willing, I will continue with Pastor Skip's bible studies.

David is, King. David is prophet, David acted like a High Priest.... Only Jesus accomplished this.... The transfiguration reveals Jesus is Lord... Elijah/prophet and Moses/ high priest... Jesus is King of Kings
