Another PS2 classic from back in the day! Released less than 2 months after GTA Vice City this was a very ambitious open-world game set in London, England. The controls feel a little clunky by today's standards but the charm of driving real licensed cars around a realistically re-created London never gets old. It's quite surreal coming across shops and landmarks you've visited in real life...in a video game. Despite it's constant grey skies and moody visual style there's a good amount of humour throughout which keeps the tone nice and balanced. Would have been great to see how this series would have evolved on PlayStation 3 but sadly we'll never know...

The best you can realistically hope for is if Sony decided to remaster this along with Black Monday. Remasters usually cost less and are a lot quicker to release. A remake won’t happen due to numerous factors. Car companies won’t appreciate being able to kill and run over people using their cars for instance. Not to mention the cast are all either retired or no longer acting. Don Kembry who mocapped and voiced Mark for example is no longer acting, he’s a teacher in Thailand. Joe Rice who plays DC Carter now lives in San Francisco. They’d have to recast everyone.
@ryujigoda3445

@@songoku9348 yes that’s true the remastered could be out there, but then again some of the buildings are not there anymore if you do travel to Holborn Westminster and those places majority, those buildings ain’t there anymore and it will probably probably cost them a lot of money for license and issue with the vehicles. The old Lexus rovers Lotus, the Nissan the Toyotas it’ll be an arm leg now days and isn’t fun at all but sony do have the money for it but Sony would want a big return. This game would have to sell millions there is a few games on the PlayStation two that we would love to see ported over or remastered, but I don’t think it will happen unfortunately😞

I remember getting this with my PS2. First game I played. Here in London everyone was talking about. Hell of a game. Remember thinking the graphics were the best thing I'd seen. The cut scenes were amazing for their time. This is the first time I felt like I was in a proper movie. The atmosphere was incredible. Really gripping story. This game and Black Monday should be remade for sure. Reckon they would be epic.

Maaaaan playing this as a kid...so intense. That's what games miss now, the intensity. I thought maybe it was cause I was a kid, but no I feel it now watching it lol. I still remember getting stuck on the cop shop mission and not being able to progress. Love that the game was actually hard.
Everyone was going mental comparing GTA to this but this felt far more realistic than 2002 Vice city. This is such a brilliant game. Absolute class and beautiful ahead of its time.

I remember my mum getting me this game from Sainsbury’s one Saturday morning whilst I had a lay in. Couldn’t get my head around why I couldn’t just free roam around from the start. Was only once I got a few missions in I was hooked. The real life land marks from the map, the real life every day cars really made this a hit. Toyota Space wagons, Mazda 626s, daihatsu midget vans and not forgetting that purple r33 skyline you could find if you knew where to hide it. A real relatable story line which made the game feel like a real life movie. The second installment was just as good with all the triads and Yardies

Need a remake of this
I was a teenager when this came out. I saw a used copy of it at one of my local video game spots. They were selling it for $40. I had $30, sold them my copy of NBA Live 2001. They gave me $10 (but then resold it for $18) and with that I bought this game. A GTA styled game but with that Guy Ritchie, Brit gangster aesthetic. I remember the liner notes had a glossary for the Brit slang. Fun as hell, took me a minute to figure out how to heal LOL (just stand next to a wall). Realistic driving compared to GTA at that time. My cars were always getting banged up. What a time.
ahh this bings back so much memories

To those of you who don't actually live in London, you don't know how much of a trip it is (pun not intended) watching this video. Just seeing your daily commute, pub crawls etc unfold in a video game...! Thumbs up if you're from London and just getting kicks out of this video. I think the decision to do this in London was also very ambitious. Most global cities have a grid road layout and so I'd imagine would have been easier to implement. London's got a whole mish-mash road layout (due to its historical urban geography). And it wouldn't have been as simply as keeping in the "main roads". Well done to the devs!
