Ah that opening mission in the flats. My local Woolworths had accidently put this on the shelf about a week before release date in 2004. I immediately bought it, as I was such a fan of the first game. Everyone else in year 10 was raging on about San andreas, but I was far happier with this.

That much heart and soul that they literally just copied and pasted the map from the first game rather than make something new from scratch because it was easier and cheaper.

Just this amazing line at the beginning: "This needs to be Clockwork, not Clockwork [bloody] orange" loved that and will always love the line my droogs

Wish we had a remake or a third game of this series...shame it wont probably happen expect to be as a classic on the PS store as other titles some day.

Incredible technical achievement, to have a sprawling city come to life in such a gritty, drab and realistic aesthetic was quite amazing. Shame the gameplay wasn't quite as polished as the visuals

I finally found this game after 10 years. I played that game a lot when I was kid

These two games were great! My sonand i played through the first one several times each, and we are constantly going on about how it needs to be remade. I remember how we were in awe on the vehicle damage, and getting flat trires. Also being from America, we loved the ability to get a better idea of what England looked like from the streets.

Mafia 1, The Getaway and it's sequel are like the Morrowind of crime games. In the sense that they don't hold your hand for stuff like: Hints Tips Tutorials Objective markers X-Ray vision Enemies on the minimap

Very true. The Getaway series doesn’t even give you an ammo counter. It’s like you are literally just standing behind someone watching.

The Getaway 3 would have been great. Sadly any other open-world crime IP is pretty much dead these days so GTA is the only option now from AAA devs.

@@Willzyyy yes i agree,its bad that only GTA is popular as an open world game and even Red Dead didn't get the hype it should had from most people because it is just different era inside the game while it is 100x better than the milked GTA V. Nowdays even if The Getaway series would make a comeback it still wouldn't be the first choice for most but only from people who know and played both back in the days.

An Absolutely brilliant game I got it on release I was like 14 at the time and i loved the storyline just how dark and gritty it was and now seeing this video brings it all back for me the nostalgia is absolutely unreal 😊. When this game come out the world was somewhat normal not crazy as it is now and I feel that if they made another one like this it wouldn’t be able to capture what this game did. I did hear that some one was working on a sequel to this game but unfortunately it got shelved I hope that someone makes another getaway in the future and it blows everyone’s minds.

Most missions have a sense of urgency so free roaming isn’t really a priority during the story, but there is a separate free roam mode where you can play as multiple different characters and find all the hidden vehicles and mess around. There’s also a Taxi mini-game and races too.

I absolutely love this game and finished it multiple times. A small tip that help you the missions The Vor and the Beginning of The End: choose a bike to chase Viktor, the enemies pursuing you will also have bikes, but their AI can't ride bikes and usually crash.

Loved The Getaway games, wish there'd be a remaster of them with updated graphics. The amount of detail the devs put into the map for London was so impressive back then, I remember as a kid trying to find my block of flats but the Edgware Road cut off left it approx 30 minutes walk away (would've been less than a minute drive in-game). Was gutted lol

I loved that game I couldn't beat the last bit of the game you used to rest against the wall and get your energy back

This was quality , I preferred it to GTA because it was British, the graphics were excellent back then , there was always something a bit off with the controls , the cars movement always felt off and the gameplay wasn't 100% , but in both games the story was excellent, like playing a lock stock type film. If only they had kept the premise going. I would love them to do a remake with modern machines. It had limitations, but it had so many positives , I think I played it over and over back then. Even the cutscenes now is written better than a lot of rubbish on the TV. The Graphics are actually not bad even now , the buildings look good still. The controls are still bad though , it feels like the game was on a linear rail and it didn't want you straying too far from where they wanted you to go. Overall a class game.

These are worth a remake

This game was a classic you will never see dialogue like jokes and pervert humor like the lesbian joke cause that was the style of the 90s. If a game developer ever went that they would boycott the game and company not understanding the era was different even in Europe. If only they would do one more but keep the same style they make big money but sadly they end up making the ending not ending and dlc content to get which is the style of the new games these days!
