    Best? The film is 50% good. The ending and the plot tails are badly executed. Amazing performances all round namely from Colin and Hugh but the film itself is probably his 5th best. Watch Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and come back to me…

    Honestly Guy Ritchie just knows how to make British gangster movies. No one makes a gangster movie like him. Always on point with the music too, and the actors for this Matthew McConaunhey alway outstanding. Hugh Grant! Jesus he was amazing, Colin Farrel fantastic. Charlie Hunnam was brilliant.

    Best opening scene of any film in a while

  • @projectpat8807

    @projectpat8807

    4 жыл бұрын

    This opening REALLY got me into the movie. I actually read spoilers to the movie. Well, just who lived and died. Didn't really read any further plot details. So I went in knowing McConaughey lives, but then I saw that opening scene and I was all like: "Whoa, whoa whoa!!! Hold on!!! Timeout!!!" After that I had like 50 different scenarios or so as to how that scene would've played out. But I've seen a ton of movies and I'm also a writer. So I did immediately turn to that the opening was misleading and it wasn't him who got shot. I figured someone would have to come in and save him and the blood belonged to the shooter. But then when I learned that Hugh Grant was kind of telling some story and even got McConaughey's character incorrectly and Charlie Hunnam corrected him at one point, I was thinking that maybe Hugh Grant screwed up facts again, or maybe someone else was narrating that scene and they were a henchmen that was twisting facts and making it sound like they were some hero that supposedly killed McConaughey. Or someone was telling a "what if" story. I was kind of both impatient and patient on getting back to the scene. But I am glad I read spoilers though or else I would've left the movie since I'm not a fan of main characters/protagonists dying, although at the same time I am a "smart" movie watcher, especially since I'm a writer, so I think I could've figured out the beginning was misleading and he didn't get shot. But I probably would've sat there bored and not cared about anything until it returned to that scene and I knew for sure that it was misleading. It's possible the movie could've shown what led up to that point and revealed why McConaughey had it coming. And if I hadn't read spoilers, I'd have to re-watch the movie to give it another chance. But since I read spoilers ahead of time and saw everything play out, I don't need to re-watch the movie to see if I liked it more. After reading the spoilers and watching the movie, I want to re-watch the movie to see the scenes I liked the most and enjoy the movie even more.

  • @projectpat8807

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@DHynes5, you must not know a lot about guns. Well, I don't know much either, but heard it plenty of times from a lot of gun experts over the years (started since my high school days back in 2003 to 2007) that Hollywood gets silencers all wrong. Heck, I even have a few friends that are gun experts. Plus I live in Upper Michigan where there is a lot of hunters that are gun experts. In real life, guns are still pretty loud with a silencer on them. I've even watched some videos too of what guns in real life would sound like with a silencer on them. There is still a loud bang to them when fired while having a silencer attached to them. Probably as loud as the bang in the opening scene. The quietness you see/hear in movies is just Hollywood BS at it's best and exaggerating stuff once more and being inaccurate. Silencers do reduce the bang, but not to the point where you can't hear it. Hollywood just exaggerated things to the point that a silencer will allow a bullet to not be heard or make any sound at all.

    There's not one single fault I could point out about this film. It's a true return to British crime classic films from Guy Ritchie. It has that humorous slant to it that was present in Snatch, but it's also got some terrific acting in it. That intro as well is so good, such a powerful opening.

    Matthew M was the perfect character for this. Like the Lion, the king of the jungle (which the character references later) he's got a bit of a blonde mane himself, the crown of a king. He's very confident, straight forward and assured in his actions and behaviors. He walks into his bar -- he knows what he wants, he orders it. He walks straight to the juke box, picking out the proper change in his pocket before he even reaches it. He knows exactly what song he wants to listen to as he drinks and the jukebox obeys his command, as does the bartender. He sits down at his preferred table, summons his phone, and very quickly calls the very person he wishes to speak to just now. Everything happens as he wishes like a well oiled machine. The camera shots are purposively mechanic-- very sharp yet smooth. Matt muses that we should not doubt, takes a sip of beer, and judiciously wipes off the detritus from his upper lip. Suddenly his empire is very quickly thrust into confusion and chaos...

    Pickled eggs have since become a favourite among many as a snack or hors d'œuvre popular in pubs, bars and taverns, and around the world in places where beer is served. After the eggs are hard boiled, the shell is removed and they are submerged in a solution of vinegar, salt, spices, and other seasonings.
