The Genius of Britain Episode 1 (Part 2/5)
Ғылым және технология
"We may only be a small island, but Britain's great scientists and inventors have literally created the modern world, from the invention of the steam engine, computers and the world-wide web, to the discovery of the theory of evolution and the atom. In a new five-part series some of Britain's leading scientific figures tell the stories of the people behind these innovations. The first programme begins 350 years ago when a small group of friends, colleagues and rivals defied everything that was known about the world at that time. Stephen Hawking and Jim Al-Khalili explain how Isaac Newton saw mathematics at the root of everything, from gravity to light."

Absolutely. Just seeing his drawings show how immaculate he was with his work, no wonder this is the stuff which separates genius from mere mortals. Amazing scientist.
Robert Hooke - what an unsung hero!!!!!
brilliant!
@Mxlsptlk No, but I asked the same question when I studied Boyle's law in school :-P. The word "boil" predates Robert Boyle, and ultimately comes to the english language through the Latin "bullīre," meaning "to bubble," by way of old French "boillir" and middle (1250 - 1300) English "boillen" :-)
Huzza!
i can easily see a flea and all of its bits with my naked eye, dawkins.

damn, hooke was a good artists too!
Without organised religion humans would have been in space 300 years ago. Useless bronze age superstition has held mankind down for too long. We have to end superstition before it ends us.
To credit Britain for having "..literally created the modern world.." is absolutely ridiculous. I have huge respect for the scientists participating in this documentary, but frankly, the premise of the documentary makes it difficult to take it seriously. It also makes me question whether the ones who created the documentary know anything about the history of science, or of world for that matter, at all. Disappointing...
