The genius behind Zambia’s first anime series | Africa Direct Documentary
In Zambia’s capital, Lusaka, 20-year-old Tabitha Mwale is glued to her flickering screen, painstakingly bringing to life the characters in her long-held idea for a supernatural animation series.
She and her partner are trying to bring The Super, Zambia’s first anime series, to local audiences. It is a long, hard road but with talent, passion and determination, they are making progress in this emerging industry in Zambia.
Misheck Chiza Banda works as a documentary director and editor in Zambia. His directorial debut was with the short film On The Road, which challenges gender stereotypes. This is his first film for Africa Direct.

As a Japanese, I thought this video was wonderful. In particular, I thought it was amazing that the mouth movement animation matched the voice. Glory to Zambia!

This is awesome hope they get support... Japanese JICA for cultural affairs should get in on this as they love supporting these things in Zambia (there a bit stiff) ... Imagine she got some support and trying from a Japanese animation studio or university.

Every one who has achieved something great started small like this Anime. They need to keep the dream burning, seek funding from the CDF & well wishers. Add English subtitles & Anime can easily make an impact all over the nation & internationally especially among kids & the youths.

Yes, there's reason to be proud of what these creators have made but my gosh am I also saddened by what they created. Why draw characters that don't have even darkish skin? The hair is all straight and the facial features completely bow down to European beauty standards. Was this intentional? Was this done just because they thought it would do better the anime would do better in international markets w/o African features (sadly this is probably true)? Of course no one official will likely see this comment but i was just so disappointed by what black African creators chose to do here.
