Some will never figure out how to get Cacturne in Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet. But famous player Jim Cool is well aware of the Best Cacturne Moveset in Competitive, and even how to Cacturne Shiny Farm. Many aren't and never will be. That's just the unfortunate reality of the world.
If you see it: Let's grab a dozen Oysters together when we next reunite.
The below text is very relevant to many people.
Game Freak just blew all other online game development schools out of the water with this incredible new 2022 release. You're gonna need to get a game design degree online, and FAST, if you want to make a better game than this. Not even the best strategy games android reddit could hold a candle to this breathtaking Next generation competitive Pokemon experience.
Scream Tail is the Jigglypuff of our wildest dreams. It has been buffed with some higher statistics and the incredible ability, Protosynthesis. Gen 9 Competitive Pokemon wouldn't be the same without this powerful pink blob. He kinda looks like someone I met in one of my game design and development courses.
Gen 9 Pokemon Showdown is one of the greatest online gaming sites in history. From Pikachu and Charizard, to Palafin and Roaring Moon, The new Pokemon games, Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, have introduced a lot of new faces. Can I succeed in one of the best android games of all time? If so, I'm gonna get myself a Walmart bakery Pokemon cake to celebrate.
Gholdengo is a Pokemon made of pure gold. He must have done some online business management courses to accumulate all that wealth. Or perhaps he might want to learn how to make money playing video games on KZread. In any case, he's a powerful metagame force, with absolutely no interest in online game development schools.

holy bananas folks.
FEARXNinetails doesn't use literally the exact same team. He does however have variants of about the same dozen mons. Ninetales is there obviously, Slowking, Meganium, Dragonite, Swampert. I don't recall everything as I have not played him in ages since I don't smurf anymore, but I do still remember that it was not always the exact same team---still in the spirit. He also does talk (I got him to years ago) but you have to be familiar to him or friendly in a way. Forgot what I talked to him about unfortunately. I once remember I was making fun of him in his battle chat and after he finished that he immediately challenged me. That was funny. He's a proud guy. I've actually lost to him a few times out of the maybe couple dozen times or so I've played him. I remember when he used Psychic trainer avatars. Decent guy.

Starless Nights is another player I have encountered and sought out often and even spoken to, going back to when he used the Rich Boy avatar instead of the School Boy avatar he does now. I talked with him a couple years ago and I believe he told me he was Mexican or some kind of Latin American. He also told me he's about that age where he'd be in his 30s by now (no more than mid- I think). This is the only metagame he plays, to my knowledge; he also doesn't have any chatrooms open, just ladders. Nice guy. I'm also a fan of his due not just to the unorthodox teambuilding, but the miracle-working way his teams (plural intended) can win. Starless Nights like FearXNinetails has not used just a singular team. There's one team of his for example that leads with Flygon. And like FXN, it's been so long I honestly can't recall the few variants I've seen, but the shiny Flygon is one that distinctly stands out in memory. I only ever saw him ladder at American nighttime. A couple years ago, when the ladder was a lot less active, seeing him in Top 10 or Top 5 1600s was a real possibility. Now with more competition his standing has suffered a bit. I will still watch any match I see him in, and even seeing the familiar nicknames again always makes me smile.

22:07 linear curve seismic tossing into gengar until it thawed is a hell of a sportsmanship thing. reminds me of a clash royal pro match where one player threw away a fireball by accident, a potentially game losing mistake, and his opponent responded by throwing away his own fireball, negating the error. can yall think of any other sporting plays showing the respect between players?
@rajkanishu

The difference is that one a is a genuine human mistake, the other is an accounted for game mechanic While I do agree that the ban was outrageos in this specific case, it's two different situations that have to be judged differently

yeah, the only connection between the two is sportsmanship. the situations are wildly different.

In fighting games, the rules are that if your controller disconnects, you auto-lose the round, regardless of who was ahead (broadly speaking). There's been many cases - and controversies - over the years of players just letting the game keep going and not taking the free round that they are entitled to when their opponent's controller disconnected. That said, I do not think something like the Linearcurve thing should be too encouraged, it takes away from the spirit of the competition. Hax is a part of the game and if you're gonna start making a clown show every time to make things "fair"... then why play Pokemon?
@camgoodkicks
4 ай бұрын
@@Lobster222Hax is an almost universally hated part of the game, but you’re right. However, I see it more like letting someone stand back up after knocking them over in MMA. It’s sportsmanship, but it’s also a flex and it’s part of player/athlete expression. Should I be banned from the ring for not chasing and ground & pounding? Should I be banned from a game for choosing to forsake a hax advantage? I dunno myself but there is a conversation to be had there
@Lobster222

@@camgoodkicks When you start allowing this nonsense at tournaments, it can easily go into collusion territory, or players being pressured to be the 'good guy', and so forth. Historically, there's zero merit to it and again, it goes against the spirit of the game. If you do not like RNG then play another game. It's equivalent to putting aside a lucky draw in a card game instead of playing it. The game essentially became meaningless because you disregarded what IS a part of it.

Honestly, starless nights is such a great sig. Gives the feel of a random encounter hidden boss.
another note about the old beat up nickname thing is that even if you weren’t running beat up, you’d still want to nickname your mons so that it wasn’t obvious you didn’t have it

Great news !
Here's another player one for the iceberg. Recently I discovered that, according to Mead (stated in one of the currently highest rated Gen 3 OU replays), he's actually also Kickwinn. I had no idea and there's no way anyone would deduce that surely. Kickwinn is also an account you'll see perform well at mid-to-high ladder, although not often at all at the very tippy top. Also he's a Francophone, in case one didn't know. I've spoken with Mead several times. One thing I had asked him if he's been having as much fun with the teams he uses now as he used to have with his Baton Pass team(s), and he told me no. He's not been a slouch per se; just this past week I saw him in the Top 10, and like I said he even snagged several high-rated replays across both accounts only last month in February; but his standing fluctuates very greatly, and if you ever watch his matches, you'll see him struggle and lose not uncommonly. As far as I'm concerned nobody can take his innovations away from him, and they certainly helped change my perspective about the game/tier/meta drastically for the better. Even if he hasn't cracked the code of success outside of Baton Pass strategies.

To your point on the g2 and g3 ou differences, i have this same sort of love hate relationship with gen 7 AG as my go to comfort tier. Gen 7 had some of the most polarizing overuse of mons like Pdon for example, yet there are also ways to top ladder without it asw by outsourcing roles to mons like Ttar, Arceus-Ground, Zygarde-C, etc. The tier i think is the closest a banlist tier gets towards g3 OU considering the keystone mons like Pdon and Arceus but theres also a shocking amount of usability from low tier picks like Ttar, Klefki, ive even brought a Breloom team off the cuff to 1600s just because i was bored and its a somewhat consistent sleep spammer that revenged a lot of checks to my wincon Pdon. A lot of your reasons for loving g3 were felt in mine for this tier, and theres very explicit issues that really anyone could see at face value, but its so fun. Besides g3 OU which i play from watching your channel its the only singles tier i play these days still

Hey Jimothy Cool, just wanted to let you know that your content is awesome and has inspired to me to get into gen 3 ou. Keep up the good work.
I remember TheFlamingSpade uploading back in the day an April Fools video where he had a Gen 5 wifi match using the "new smogon format" where everything is legal but restricted through having to use certain items, be on a specific level etc. One of the funny things was Ember Blaziken, Bicycle Mewtwo with Struggle, lv41 Terrakion... I don't remember the rest

Hi Jimothy, I've played on the OU ladder for a long time, I'm just curious on how would you define "high elo" as a top player in the format?
Iceberg moment.
22:25 no good deed goes unpunished...
mh yeah I can see that point about metagross no.1 I every time tense up when I face it. All the time you have to think about a potentially incoming explosion. And as you said there are no good counters.
I was expecting Roselia and or sableye, you talked about them in previous videos
Oooh I've played against FEARxNinetails before but had no idea he'd been at it for so long
Damn I didn't think gen 3 went that deep as a metagame. Jeezus. Haven't played pokemon in at least since the black white. Insane
Ive heard of rs200 a few years back and always wanted to try it but im not sure where
Tyranitar really does learn every move because Who gave this man Rain Dance Usually opposite weather mons don’t have access to other weather moves
Gengar with Curse, Mean Look, and Rest feels like something an in-game trainer would try on you. I'm surprised it actually worked in competitive.
I think Slak's got a lot going for it honestly, even outside of those teams that are built entirely to support it. I've experimented with a Slaking lead mixed offense sort of team before to decent success. Slaking can punch huge holes in the opponent's team if they predict wrong or I pin them down, which lets things like suicune and aero clean up pretty effectively
I would say Gen 3 and 4 are the sweet spot between mechanics and power creep. Gen 3 lacking important things like move distribution and phys/special split, but also gen 4 having start of a good deal of power creep (heatran,rotom w) making niche strats in OU quite tough
Gen 3 OU meta gives me Football Premier League Vibes and I’m all here for it

Just fought ninetailsXnails. Cool team.
People unfamiliar with competitive battling see things like the Cacturne "versus" Tyranitar thing as a "big guy vs. little guy" story in my experience. In reality it's more like somebody opening a wormhole to shoot a three pointer that they hit 20% of the time, where Tyranitar is the three pointer and the wormhole three is Cacturne. There's a misunderstanding of what the activity is built around and what disrupts that. Or something?
Excellent video Jim. I've always had disdain in my heart for Castform so I'm glad he didn't make an appearance
It would be cool to have a video just on RS200.
Welcome back to the gen 3 iceberg this is part 2
I have something to add to the iceberg. Correct me if I'm wrong. When you use will o wisp against a Flash fire mon Flash fire doesn't activate (instead it says inmune). But when the ability is traced, flash fire activates. Crazy, isn't it?
Bring back RS 200! Sounds like fun!
How is this possible?!
Looking back, I should've mentioned my beef battle vs watermess. Worth of the iceberg bottom.
sandslash's only ability in gen 3 is sand veil so he's also banned which sucks cause he would pair awesome with tyranitar if he had gotten sand rush earlier
RS200 REVIVAL TOURNAMENT WHEN
"level one ratata and other such low level fellows in the cartridge games" this is sending me
The "RNG impact in GSC is minimal" kinda has me a little puzzled. I mean, it may seem obviously true, since the high overall bulk allows more room for errors, but I played quite a bit and the more I play, the more I can't help but notice that the most common way to make progress is a crit or a miss, etc. in the right spot. Now, I'm not a high level player nor have I played at high elo so it might just be my experience.
Thelinearcurve was also one of the best AG players

Jimothy cool vs the cacturne crew (theyre using iron mugulis)
Part 2 of Iron Bergulus
i would like to state for the record that i think slaking is 1000% an ou pokemon. but anyway i think i'm on the metagross #1 bandwagon. there is the obvious counterargument that ttar's sand defines the metagame in a lot of ways, or that skarm or bliss are so overwhemingly bulky that if you can't threaten them you just lose, but out of the top pokemon nothing strikes more fear into me than choice band meta. it doesn't really matter if it gets a mash boost, it will still KO skarm in 4 hits so if im relying on skarm to counter it then if i haven't won or chipped it into range of something faster by then i auto lose. whenever i see it get leftovers healing my heart rate drops by 50 from the relief i feel. most of the difficulty with countering ttar is figuring out the set, once you do that you likely have a safe switch in, and skarm/bliss can be outplayed and worn down overtime especially with spikes+sand. but to beat band meta you either play so aggressively that you don't give it a chance to attack, correctly predict what it clicks multiple times, or you need a bare minimum of two solid counters. none of that even guarantees a win, but if you don't do that you definitely lose. ttar, skarm and bliss possibly do more to shape the tier, but in my experience the pokemon that punishes you the hardest for forgetting about it is definitely meta, and how you play with your own meta or how you play around enemy meta is often the deciding factor in a game
Surprised Lanturn gang didn't make it in
