The problem with making a Garfield movie is that Garfield is a character that only works in a little newspaper strip or a 15 minute cartoon show. Not an hour and a half feature length movie.

I think this really sums up 'Garfield' as a character. It's entertaining in spurts, but do we really need an hour plus of that? There's only so much story you can get out of that. For instance, I enjoyed the cartoon and I had a book with a ton of comics from the newspaper. Each page was, at most, 6 panels. They were enjoyable, but a movie is essentially taking that concept and making a FULL book instead of just a few panels. I just don't see how that can be enjoyable. It feels like a chore to get through.

The dog with the loose skin is called a Shar-Pei, a chinese guardian breed of dog know for it's rough sand-like fur and folds. They're adorable.

My Garfield will ALWAYS be the version from the cartoon series Garfield and Friends. I watched that series a lot when I was a kid every Saturday morning before Ninja Turtles on CBS

Good or bad I’m still excited to see this movie. I’ve always been a Garfield fan. The dude helped me through middle school lol. For me, my definitive version of Garfield would always be the Lorenzo Music/Lou Rawls cartoons.

You’re right this was for a five and under audience. I took my three-year-old for the first time to a movie theater and we picked a good one for his first time visit. The running time was just perfect for the little ones overall as a family and I have a nine-year-old as well my wife and I really enjoy this movie

It had three shorts and one of them was about Odie getting shipped to the pound and unlike the live action movie where Odie gets kidnapped in the cartoon it was darker because Garfield had to rescue Odie from getting Put down and in the end Garfield not only rescuers Odie but rescues all the abandoned animals Also, another main difference is how OD ends up in a pound in the cartoon he was captured wow playing with Garfield after a cranky neighbor called animal control in the live action movie Odis just chases after car and gets lost. You could tell the story but take it in a more serious direction while still being kid friendly. A movie about Garfield helping his long lost father with some gangsters. Is not a Garfield story or Garfield going to London to switch places with a cat prince

To think this was Mark Dindal's first movie to be directing 19 years after Chicken Little (his previous 2 being Cats Don't Dance and The Emperor's New Groove).

Cris you for got to mention the phenomenal TV series including the long-running Garfield and Friends and 2009-2016 The Garfield Show with CGI animation. Plus throughout the years he had a lot of TV special sometimes during the holiday that were winners of Emmy Awards. At least The Garfield Movie was so much better than The Strangers Chapter 1...... I think they really had to promote these product placement because Garfield was heavily promoted in numerous commercials like Olive Garden, US Postal Service etc etc.

How did you watch it

The Garfield movie was actually great. I love that we finally got to meet Garfield's father, and how caring he is. I am glad that we got to see more character development for Garfield. And I am glad that they showed that Odie is a lot smarter than he seems. Who care if Chris Pratt voices Garfield? It was not a problem at all.
