Fallout: New Vegas is an open world action role-playing video game and is the fourth major installment of the Fallout video game series. The game was developed by Obsidian Entertainment over 18 months and published by Bethesda Softworks. It was announced in April 2009, and released for Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on October 19, 2010, with the Xbox 360 version becoming backwards compatible on Xbox One on June 23, 2016.[6] The game is set in a post-apocalyptic, open world environment that encompasses a region consisting of parts of Nevada, California, and Arizona. It is set, like all Fallout games, in a world that deviated onto an alternate timeline thanks to atomic age technology, which eventually led to its devastation by a nuclear apocalypse in the year 2077 in an event referred to as "The Great War". This war was caused by a major international conflict between the United States and China over natural resources and the last remaining supplies of untapped petroleum. The main story of Fallout: New Vegas takes place in the year 2281, four years after the events of Fallout 3. It is not a direct sequel, but it does mark the return of some elements found in the Black Isle Studios-developed Fallout 2. Inon Zur composed its music.
Players take control of a character known as the Courier. While transporting a package across the Mojave Desert to the city of New Vegas for the Mojave Express delivery service, the Courier is ambushed, robbed of the package, shot in the head, and left for dead. After miraculously surviving, the Courier begins a journey to find their would-be killer and recover the package, makes friends and enemies among various factions, and ultimately becomes caught up in a conflict that determines who will control New Vegas and the Mojave Wasteland. New Vegas has received positive reviews, with reviewers praising the game's writing, quests, and improved gameplay. It received criticism for its glitches and bugs. New Vegas was a commercial success, shipping more than 5 million copies altogether, and is estimated to have sold around 12 million copies worldwide. It received a Golden Joystick Award for "RPG of the Year" in 2011.

I Like how he could easily been the “main villain” like most Bethesda games but obsidian decided to put him as only a mere pawn in the middle of something more complex. You can literally catch up to him within an hour of the game and once you do, it dawns on you that he’s merely small fry compared to the vast world of new Vegas. As you travel through the Mojave, it becomes clear that there is more evil out there than Benny. He may have his plans to take over new Vegas, but he isn’t the only one.

That's a really good way to put it. Playing this game as a kid when it came out, I went straight through the revenge path, and was confused when Benny was killed off so fast. It made me think New Vegas was a much smaller game than Fallout 3, but revisiting NV was a great idea.

@@masonalexander771 I’d say that vaas is the villain that makes Jason become who he is towards the end. Granted it could’ve been done better but I think that Benny is well executed in NV. I mean you can literally talk to yes man before you even catch him. I think the way it subverts your expectations is done very well. You got revenge, but now what? There’s more opportunity for story and gameplay. Perfect for an RPG.

Pickpocket him at the casino and you can do exactly that. You'll need level 50 sneak to get Maria into the fort but it can be done.

I love how the others look menacing but Jessup is just there lookin like a kid in a candy shop
this cutscene was made in less than a day with severe budget constraints if I remember correctly, and yet it's one of the most iconic openings in gaming. Just goes to show how fancy graphics, animations, and gunplay can never outweigh good writing. too bad Bethesda will never realise that

This game proves that you don't have to be connected to the Vaults in any way or to have Nuka-Cola constantly showed into your face to be Fallout. Actually, FO3 and 4 failed at that even with those.

FO4 I’ll grant you. Even if there are things I like about it, it’s not the game it should have been. But 90% of FO3 holds up alongside the best of Fallout. Canterbury Commons, Oasis, Tranquillity Lane, and a lot more content from FO3 could be transplanted into an Obsidian fallout game without any changes and you wouldn’t even realize they weren’t Obsidian’s work.
