All y’all’s arguments are only solidifying the team atmosphere of this Pistons squad. So when everybody excelled at their role the team leader gets the nod. Chauncey deserved it but Prince was always my favorite player for silently defending guys who routinely put up insane numbers but he was content with throttling those back just a bit. All season and still went hard. Big Ben was hard not to love, tho. Undersized and all!

Spencer Morgan I agree about Ben. To try and downplay how much he disrupted Shaq is such a huge slight on him and Shaq. Yeah, Shaq’s numbers were pretty descent for these Finals but nobody stopped Shaq like Ben did for 5 straight games. Even Hakeem had difficulties many times.

That’s when I lost my mother to cirrhosis of the liver back in May of 2004. I just like to thank the 2004 Detroit Pistons. You guys winning the NBA championship helped me to get through a very difficult year.

I'm not a huge Pistons fan, but I've never forgotten these stats First team to ever win Game 3-4-5 of the NBA Finals on the road (1990) ('91 Bulls would repeat this the next year) First team to win Game 3-4-5 of the NBA Finals at home (2004) ('06 Heat did this, but not in closeout scenario) Only team in NBA Finals history to win Game 6 on the road and force Game 7 after being down 3-2 in a Finals (2005) As the 2-3-2 format is now gone, that last record will probably never be touched. I wish they didn't change it. It was one of the only achievements in NBA history that has never happened. No team has ever come back from 0-3 to win a series, and no team had ever won Game 6 & 7 on the road in the NBA Finals. The '05 Pistons were the only team in history that ever had the chance to make that second record happen.

yep, i think being an undersized center helped him to be more athletic and agile despite his very muscular / bodybuilder body. it's very rare to see that an undersized player can become one of the all-time greatest rim protectors in the leauge's history. imagine if he's much taller, he'd be more intimidating!!

For the series, Shaq scored 26.6 ppg on 63% shooting. What Pistons did was deny the ball to Shaq, and they did it as a team. The guy who got really shutdown was Kobe, 17% shooting from the threes is really bad.

the problem was all the internal fights between the lakers. kobe and shaq beef, karl and kobe beef. pistons played full court defense which dint let shaq setup on offense and control tempo. instead kobe just kept trying to ball hog. they coulda easily beat the pistons. doesnt take away how good they were tho but lakers were clearly the better team

Ben defended Shaq well, but you can't blame Shaq for the series loss. Look at the most important game 4, final score 88-80, no stats padding, every point counts. Shaq had 36 points on 76% shooting, and 20 rebounds. What more can you ask him? Is this the stats of someone who got shut down by individual defense? Shaq got shut down by Pistons team defense, not individual defense.

Ben simply wanted it more in this series. He denied Shaq for the whole series. One of the greatest defensive performances in any finals.

People sleep on Ben Wallace but that dude played with such intensity and bled for the Pistons!!!

Ben, rasheed, tayshaun, rip/richard, and chauncey are the best line up in NBA without being called a super team. They are underrated players. Lakers that time have shaq payton bryant and malone and they were called superteam but lets not forget about kobe’s issue and malone is injured (i think or got suspended). And ben wallace has no fear even artest was afraid of him.

People forget that they used to call the 03-04 Lakers the most stacked team of all time back then. And man the Pistons ripped them apart. I love MJ's Bulls, Payton's Sonics and the 13/14 Spurs, but this Pistons team is my go to team if I had to choose. Any day, any night against anybody.

When I first started watching basketball, I didn't know any names or talents in the league, but I was drawn to Wallace for his look and defensive prowess. For a short period in the middle of the 2000s he was truly an iconic player.

Very very underrated just because he had no offense. This man was undersized for his position but had defense similar to Bill Russell's. He was athletic. He was a man u would not mess with. He exposed shaq in the 2004 finals and forced him to leave LA. He went to 6 ECF in a row. He's a certified hall of famer.

exposed Shaq? Huh? Shaq, while limited due to Wallace's great effort in denying him the ball on the low post, still put up huge numbers in this series. Who the Pistons really frustrated was Kobe. He shot like 17% from 3 in the finals.

ben did not make the 07 or 08 east finals ..by then he was on other teams and washed....he made 4 east finals with the pistons from 03-06 during a era where the east on offense was ass so his d stood out...hes a borderline hall of famer

I remember watching these finals as a kid. With Detroit being my hometown team, it was awesome to see the talent they had in those years out on the court.

Congrats on his induction. First undrafted player in NBA history to be inducted into the HOF. Defensive beast!!!

Same feeling my dad brought me into basketball with this team and we’re from Indiana, we rooted against Reggie and the pacers in the playoffs every time, best intro to basketball I’ll never forget funny how Indiana started his love for the pistons when they drafted Isaiah Thomas. Best TEAM ball I’ve ever seen

Detroit Pistons were phenomenal that year. I'm a Laker fan but I give those guys respect. I hold Kobe accountable for his performance but sadly people only seem to remember that and not what Ben was doing to Shaq or even what Rip was doing to Gary. They were just a better team. Simple as that. I miss basketball of back then.

I lived in Orlando during this time and Ben was my favorite player. I hated he left. What he could do on a dime was insane. Probably my favorite player from this era.

Tayshaun Prince's arms were too long to shoot over. He had the longest arms on that squad. You don't realize it until you see their championship picture. Kobe was non existent for most of this series. I still can't believe a Lake Show team got their asses handed to them the way they did.

It was Shaq’s team so the loss was mostly on him

his height was listed at 6’9 but in reality he was around 6’7 that just makes what he did in his career even more impressive

one of the greatest finals upset ive ever witnessed. the underdogs won! felt so good!

two wallace, prince, billups and hamilton this pistons line up is legit scary

i was in a restaurant in LA during this game and everyone was mad at Kobe, my family was vacationing there and we were rooting for the Pistons and everyone was mad at us giving us the stink eye LOL

Majority of the series Ben guarded Shaq by himself which took away what the Lakers did in the past titles that is playing 4 on 5 cause every team doubled Shaq.. Detroit should've swept them

The coach said in an interview they didn't want to foul Kobe, because he believed in the Pistons defence. Kobe made a 3 pointer thus wining very narrowingly 1 game..... Can't blame the coach, but still a great series. Nearly swept the Lakers in the finals is still not many teams can say.

Chauncey was solid the whole play-offs and kept consistent for the finals, he deserved MVP. No doubt Big Ben played lights out this game.

I saw Ben take a charge on Iverson in the backcourt; One on one. Iverson was arguably the quickest guy in the nba. Iverson had no complaints. Helped him to his feet and respected the greatness of Ben Wallace then.

I was too young to appreciate Ben back then . He straight balled on their ass ! Kobe and Shaq!

He was so locked in he even killed the halftime interview!

I miss the old nba. The aura, the announcers, the commercials. It will never be duplicated.

I remember watching this series and all these games, definitely one of my favorite finals from that decade, the 2005 finals in my opinion was the best.

God this took me back right into 04. It was such a pleasure watching these Pistons play. 84ppg avg against. The game won't be the same as that anymore.

#3 was the most exciting number to watch in the 00's Iverson, Wade, Wallace, Marbury, Francis, CP
