    Harvey it's a Partner F55A a Swedish saw in the Electrolux Husqvarna era mid 70's by my guess. Partner and Jonsered were a lot alike made in the same factory separate from Husqvarna but the Partners are very stihl like with a small bore and long stroke. And yes most of those style models have the gas and oil on the chain side. I had two Partner 7000 plus models the same way but 70cc and my guess was it was to force ya to sit down and fill the saw because it fits great on your lap between your knees sitting down to fill it. They work great like a 272XP or an 044, ended up giving them to my logging mentor who started running Partners back in the 80s and still doing it until this day.

    Hey Iron Horse, Jonathan Hensley here first things first. I love your content I like it when a new video pops up. You ask if people might share their thoughts on Husqvarna’s air injection system I have spent some time at the Husqvarna lab in Charlotte North Carolina in the past, and knows several of those guys. My understanding of the air injection system, and how it works is the following, the fly wheel fan. Stacks air into the semi sealed air box. The carburetor is vacuuming, the air out as it goes in. The RPM of the Saul dictates how much air is pushed in while simultaneously. The piston at the same rpm, is vacuuming, the air out creating a balance flow. The air injection also mitigates debris from the airbox via the cyclone effect meaning the heavier particles stay to the outside, and the air is picked up just inside the Vortx. However, with all of that being said what we have to consider is when you port a chainsaw and open up the exhaust, you’re moving more air than the engineers designed the air injection to move in affect, the vacuum is greater in a ported saw through the carburetor, then the air being stacked in the airbox, so I do think there’s validity to adding some extra air. For the air injection to truly be balanced with the port work, you would have to know how much more vacuum is being drawled on the airbox with a ported saw, and try to open up the air injection port into the airbox to match. hope that makes sense. Sincerely would love to talk to you on the phone about it sometime I could shoot you an email. If you’re interested we could share information maybe chat about it some keep up the good work.

    I don't know if you're talking about me saying there was pressure into the carb but that's not what I was saying. I was talking about the air box only being positively charged with a slight amount of pressure. You actually proved this in your test showing that air escapes through the vents. If no pressure was present, there would be no flow. All that aside, interesting results and more or less what I was expecting. I wonder if you held your fiber strands in front of the hole for the idle adjustment if the large vents create suction by providing a path of less resistance for the air. Thank for the testing and constructive discussion.

  • @ScrewdriverTUNING

    Holes in the air box alone can not overcome the pressure of a fan unless the engine is sucking all the air from the fan. I noticed air being sucked in the holes on mine in summer when i was heavy in the cut. I put a pre filter material over the holes and noticed it was catching fines from the outside any other time the pre filter will catch fines from with in the air box. I am not a fan of dyno testing but this would be a good test for the dyno IMO

    I was thinking that same thing. I thought that without the vents you are forcing the air through the small openings. I think the vents will help move more air through the saw cover. Just thinkin. Less restrictive air box will move more air. I bet it would keep the filter cleaner too

  • @jcsawshop

    @jcsawshop

    Жыл бұрын

    @@ScrewdriverTUNING It definitely would. It's an interesting topic for sure. I'm still subscribing to the theory that the air injection is designed to create a pressurized air box, albeit very minimal. This will force air out of any gap/hole in the filter cover thus preventing fines from being sucked in. To me, the fact that introducing these openings creates noticeable air flow from them is absolute proof that if that air was not given an escape path (vents), it would have no adequeate exit and positive pressure would result within the air box. At the moment I can't think of an arguemtent against this. Am I missing something? If however, performace gains were proven, I would say it's an upgrade provided the filtration was still adequate.

  • @jcsawshop

    @jcsawshop

    Жыл бұрын

    @@thomasmcpherson7584 I was thinking with the introduction of the 2 large vents it was possible that it could create suction on the small holes. If so, does anything that gets ingested just go right out the vents? Does it get trapped and create a dirtier air box? I'm not sure. Nick, who introduced this product, is sending me some. I will definitely be exploring some of these questions but in the meantime be following along here with Harvey and you all.

    I was thinking you could tap a hole and mount a barbed hose. Attach that to a manometer and rear inch’s of water. I use manometers as work often, thought it would be an easy way to measure fine pressure changes. Could measure pressure with and without the vents during idle and WOT. The manometer would simply show positive or negative pressure in inches of water. Then you’d know. I don’t think there’s a right or wrong here. I think that it probably has benefits and might have negatives too. Always worth learning and testing.

    I think If there’s enough moisture in the air to get in those screens for rust purposes then the flywheel pressure port will do the same thing. Holes in a husky works great and when it’s hot out and your deep in the cut is the only time I noticed air getting sucked into the holes I put in mine.

    the vent idea is a winner for me. Jonsered used the air horn delivery off the flywheel to the air box as a sales gig, called it "Turbo". Concept seems to have been aiming to deliver presumably less saw dust contaminated air from the off side of the saw and I suspect more than that it was to encourage a positive pressure in the air box which would tend to limit sawdust intrusion. Ya know if we could actually seal up the air box then we would be on the track for a Turbo charging set up...kind of intriguing! I doubt that fines are going to exit/pass thru the screens, mostly expect them to impinge due to the turbulence of air passing through the screen structure. But I think the vents will promote a better two way air flow while still working toward the positive pressure concept. Lower speed the air flow creates cooling, at higher speeds the combination or the flywheel generated airflow AND the passive air through the vents I suspect will do a better job of feeding the intake volume which is quite high at increased RPM. Can't for the life of me see where excess water or other debris would go through the screens into the box. No matter if it did, the small amount of water is not going to be a show stopper for any ignition components and fines we really don't worry about...that is what the air filter is for. Do an end of the day clean up with a dry paint brush and a hearty mouth blow and you are good to go. I am with you of being totally fed up with the Cult following of genuine Husky stuff, insane prices for pure crap most of the time. I have already gone a new direction like you, bought 372xp and 288xp farmertech saws, will tear them completely down and rebuild with OEM and aftermarket parts where I feel needed. Presently with the new saw, new aftermarket crank assembly, cylinder and piston, oil pump, ignition coil, a Walbro H6 used carb and seals, gaskets and misc other upgrades I am going to be into the 372 for about $700. Already have this stuff laid in from Wolf Creek and other shops.That is a bit more than half the price of a new 372 and I get to custom build it the way I want so I KNOW what I have. Works for me!

    I hear you man , any of the 2 or 3 series 50 cc and up used husqvarna saws in my area are going up in price every day. The clone saw parts are getting better and better all the time . As long as the customer knows what they are getting and are good with that why not use the proven parts. It's to bad the carbs and crankshaft aren't better quality . The price for oem parts here in Ontario Canada is crazy, so if you're willing to wait a bit for the parts I'm all in . Just my opinion. Stay healthy Ironhorse , Cheers.

    The fly wheel isn't exactly a turbo charger but I always like to think of it in that way for saws that have air injection. Air vents for air injected saws maybe a bad idea. Of coarse actual tests would need to be done. My thinken is that the air injection forces air (like a turbo charger) into the carb rather than sucking air. With vents that air is pushed out as you showed with your test. When I was younger on a crew with all stihls and no air injected saws in sight we had to run our saws without the tops. Venting was a god send for them saws.

    WHAT ABOUT; taking a cylinder, bore it out to just BARELY being able to accept the mounting screws to the case, THEN pressing in an iron cylinder that you can hone (bore) to 375 dimensions and then do whatever you want to with it. Maybe take an ole Xtork cylinder for doing that, reworking it to YOUR pleasure with lots of JBWELD for the cylinder and then you’ll be able to take advantage of the bigger carb, bigger intake port, and THEN you’ll be able to do with the intake and do what you will. Build it up with a removable head, and increasing compression should be “relatively” easy to do. It’ll be fairly costly but a man can dream!!

    The fact that the vents allow air to flow makes sense to me the intake would have cooler air available for the engine. I would be curious to know if there was temperature difference underneath the cover with vents vs no vents. Cooler intake charge makes more power.

    Would there be any benefit in sealing air box to actually create pressure?

    I figure about 3 junkers to make a good un - I’ve got OEM 044 and 272xp carcasses galore! IF ya get em on the cheep ya come out Waaaay ahead in parts - just gotta be careful about buying off ebay though , some real beauties out there - once bit twice shy 😉. I ask the guy to pull the muffler and show the piston/cylinder (I don’t know why this isn’t SOP from jump street) and if they balk then me and my $$$ say bye-bye. I’ve got some turnkey runners on the cheep and also a few lemons 🍋 so I’d say it’s a crapshoot.

    @@theironhorse6600 I agree ☝️… have gotten one where someone tried to “drill out “ the seal and boogered up case (probably with idea of trying to get a screw in there to pull out the seal) but never seen one where someone welded the crank like that! It’s amazing what ya see once ya get deep in the bowels of some of these saws - head scratchers Fo sure !
