As i remember, one of the key reasons which prevent this team to qualify for top class football is due to the geographical location, it is in the north-east of England. Most of the top class footballers prefer to stay in London area, down in the south. Let's see if they can continue the journey with good name joining onboard. BTW, i (Singaporean) studied at Northumbria University (Newcastle) during the Sir Bobby Robson years.

A team need to be ambition, ambition into investment building fine infrastructure , ambition to buy quality player, ambition to line up deep enough reserve squads… Wish Newcastle can buy more quality player. Mike could have achieve it years ago, but extremely cheapskate never wanting to invest more, instead sell off all the good player to competitor, continue the cycle years after years with poor result. Look at Real Madrid , Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, man city , Man U, Chelsea, without strong financial support, which team can continue staying in the top league every years buying million dollars players…
