One of my favorite aspects of this show is how they present girly things. When ever the show centers traditionally girly thing whether that’s Boy bands, stickers, sparkly fairy wands, pop music etc, it is presented with nuance. You don’t have to like them, but you should recognize there is nothing wrong with liking them. Most importantly They have value, and usually the value presented is that they make some girls happy. It’s refreshing to see girlish joy not be mocked or belittled but instead shown as a priority. I think Courtney as a character really embodies this. She wears her jewelry between her teeth, and screeches with excitement. She is earnest, she takes up space singing and dancing and being creative. She was given every “negative” stereotype about young girls. Everyone in the show recognizes her as annoying and as an audience we are supposed to have an imeadiate bias. Then the writers challenge our preconceptions by using those traits to present an endearing realistic character, that you realize you see yourself inside. It promotes not only empathy for others but also empathy for ourselves. Okay I will stop rambling now, great video!

I will never stop laughing at the part where Gene goes “do you think I ruined her birthday?” And Louise still on helium, “Naa.” 😂😂😂

I literally cry every time I watch The Gene and Courtney show at Gene’s line, “Your heart’s not broken, it’s only growing.” Give whoever wrote that an Emmy, a Pulitzer, the Nobel!

Gene and Courtney are always such a fun dynamic whether they’re being friends, rivals, or a couple. I like how you pointed out that they have very similar personalities because that aspect can cause them to either work really well or clash

Gene and Bob having the same integrity for their work is something I never noticed before. And now that I think about it. It makes so much sense. Gene's passion and dreams are what he inherited from Bob ❤️ Of course, his positive and optimistic personality came from Linda 😊

I love Courtney with Gene in any capacity. She won me over as soon as she pranked him right after her medical emergency.

Omg wait ... Do you guys think that Courtney's hip hop class is taught by the lady from the Valentine's episode who teaches Bob and Teddy how to dance? Cause that's hip hop!

I would count Zeke as a friend of Gene's beyond just being his friend by proxy, even though he's mainly hanging out with Tina. He and Gene really hit it off on the museum field trip and Zeke was ready to throw hands when Louise told him someone was picking on Gene.

I have the same thoughts about Darrell too! I really miss his character and I noticed that his voice was different in the movie anyway so I’m sad that he hasn’t come back in an episode yet. He was a great addition and was probably my favorite kid character aside from the belchers

Courtney has just become one of the most adorable characters on the show. I am a big fan of Courtney. I mean, she got Gene, who had no interest in girls whatsoever to fall in love with her! Mad skillz

You said that gene is very natural among the siblings but actually when he is really passionate about something he can be sooo cruel and harsh. Like damnnnn…

In the episode when Gene was accidentally left alone at home, he said that he liked to be around people and didn't like to be alone. Gene seems to be an "everyone friend" to people... 😏

Everyone seems to have a love- hate relationship with Courtney. Which is valid lol. But, hopefully this video will show more of the positives that her character brings to the show. I didn't realize how much I had to say about her until I started to write it out. This was suppose to be a short video but it turned int 38 minutes somehow. I hope you enjoyed this video. P.S I got a new microphone and am still getting used to it. I think my voice sounds better personally. Also I am really sorry about the beeping. I tried to cut out as much as I could in post. I know it's annoying but hopefully the quality content outweighs that lol.

I'm at work and I straight up thought the carbon monoxide alarm was going off😭

while i personally feel like most of the characters in bob's burgers are neurodivergent (autistic or adhd) i think one of the most obviously written autistic characters is courtney...courtney is introduced in a way that the belchers actually don't like her, they describe all her stimming and the ways she is annoying (kind of the ways they notice she's different without saying it), but then gene actually becomes friends with courtney cause he realizes the stuff that's annoying isn't THAT bad...and in my opinion most of the belcher family is also autistic and/or adhd and that's coming from someone who has autism and adhd lmao

Yes! As someone with AuDHD to me Bob and Tina are autistic, Linda and Gene are ADHD and Louise is AuDHD! Courtney is such a mirror for Gene it made sense the whole family initially were put off (they're used to Gene) once they're around Courtney much more they're all fine with her!

No, I'm not wrong. Louise did pilfer most of the audience from Courtney's play but once they got there they didn't really enjoy it. Bob literally was saying that it wasn't good and kept saying "oh my god" in embrassment. And when Linda told Gene to keep going,a random person said "Actually I've probably seen enough personally". Plus it was hot as hell in the boiler room and gene was literally doing a fight scene with himself. It wasn't good. Most of the audience left out of curiosity not because his show was objectively better. When they actually got to his play the audience looked miserable. Bob literally says "watching one person do die hard was a little bad.". Linda was the only one who enjoyed it. So I'm not wrong. It was bad. I love gene and I think he's very talented. I said that multiple times. But not everything he makes is a hit and that was one of those times.

Ahhh I’ve just binge watched all your vids they’re so entertaining and I love bobs burgers!! These are so well researched and put together. I’m looking forward to any BB video essays of yours in the future!!!

One thing I love about Bob's Burgers is how the kids act like kids. Sure they have exaggerated features, but at the root of those features are accurate kid personality traits. I like how no kid (accept maybe the scary Thundergirl group and Milly) are treated like protagonists even if they're the antagonist of an episode. And even then, Milly has redeeming qualities as the show progresses. It's really refreshing to not have cut and dry villians in the show overall (again, excluding some specific examples) because it's realistic. And I thin Courtney is a perfect example of that.

I'm also excited for the return of Jimmy pesto in the 5th episode (according to imdb). I wonder how that's going to be handled. We're also getting a Zeke episode this season so I'm looking forward to that.

I love Teddy too. And what I meant was he will sometimes ask for unreasonable favors knowing that Linda will more than likely say yes. Linda and Teddy have boundary issues. So yeah I do think he takes advantage a little because without her, Bob would say no to all of his shenanigans. He doesn't do it maliciously. To me its like when a kid ask their mom for ice cream because she'll say yes. If they ask their dad he'd say no. That's all I meant by take advantage. Its also why Bob is essential to both of them. To keep things healthy and establish boundaries for both of them.

Oh yeah they totally do but not to the same degree. They call Teddy whenever they need help with something but usually its not unreasonable favors. The kids are usuallythe ones asking him for crazy stuff. Teddy usually drops literally anything he's doing to help them. He's a good friend but almost to a fault. Like not going to his cousins wedding to help Bob move furniture is kind of extreme. Or leaving in the middle of therapy to help them is unhealthy. His over eagerness to help is worse than Linda's honestly. But thats a whole thing on its own. Its a mutually beneficial relationship at the end of the day. I was just using him as an example to point out Linda's nature. Teddy is an honest sweet guy but he's not perfect. The guy needs to learn to put himself first sometimes. And learn how to be happy as himself too. Teddy's complicated but that's why he's one of my favs. He deserves his own video.

I was so shocked when I saw Courtney suck on her necklace because I did too and thought I was crazy for liking the taste of metal. Granted that's probably not why she does it but I felt seen

*courtney had heart palpitations which i have had and are barely painful and should not cause you to pass out or end up in the hospital so that whole thing was really dramatic*

Alex is my favorite side character. But he only has like 3 episodes 😩(PSA, I also like Rudy and Teddy but I feel like they’re slowly working their way into main side character group as it seems like there’s more episodes with them or without them as the seasons progress)

I know I’m not the only one who put Gene on the bottom list at the start of Bob’s Burgers, but the more I rewatch Bob’s Burgers and watch the later seasons, Gene became more and more likable, I even moved him up from Tina after some episodes and moments she been in I wasn’t a fan of. And looking back, I think Gene bumping up is when Courtney became a recurring character. Their first interaction was funny but later episodes, I love their friendship grow and how cute they gotten together.

I will pray to every star above that they end up together as adults. I just need them to be together

I don't think I'm being harsh at all. I love Gene. I'm not saying he's a bad person. I'm just saying he doesn't have strong convictions, thats all. For example Tina is usually very black or white with her morals. And Louise is usually driven by her moral code of honor or what she believes is justice. Gene's not like that. He isn't too concerned with right or wrong. He just vibes. I never said there's anything inherently wrong with minding your business like he does. It was just an observation of his character not really a judgment.

Its cool. I was just trying to explain what I meant thats all. Honestly, I do too sometimes and a lot of other people do too. Its normal to feel attached to characters. I'm the same way with Zeke.
