The Edmonton Oilers had a surprisingly big day in free agency despite not having a whole lot of cap space to spend, and that meant a quick 15-minute reaction episode of Better Lait Than Never to break it all down.
Whether we're talking about Viktor Arvidsson coming over from the Los Angeles Kings, Jeff Skinner signing on from the Sabres after getting bought out, Mattias Janmark and Connor Brown coming back, or any of the depth moves Jeff Jackson made, the Oilers were significantly busier than any of us expected them to be. Not only did they address their top six forwards in a very real way, but they also added depth to the organization without having to break the bank. That leads me to believe that this team is - for the first time I can remember - a true destination for NHL free agents.
Remember when the Oilers had to give Eric Belanger an extra year because he believed in the team? Remember when Ben Eager and Darcy Hordichuk were considered to be big gets for the team? Those days seem like forever ago, don't they?
