@BlooTeg I only just found out recently too when I installed Black again on gamepass

There's a mouse input injector that works for PCSX2 and other emulators and it supports Black (if you want you can also use the 60 FPS patch), that's closest we'll get to a PC-like experience.

Bluetag, every game with "EA GAMES" logo in early Year 2000, instantly POPULAR. I could say, Black was the 1st stepping stone for a Mainstream FPS.

If you like video game osts, you should just give ace combat: skies unkown a shot. It is so perfectly fitting, it creates depending on the situation different feels. It either carries the tension in the dogfights or lets you feel like a cowboy, cause your clearly have the upper hand in a specific mission. For me something outstanding nowadays, since battlefield 3 everything needs to be bombastic and distorted, which you can find in LITERALLY EVERY modern movie trailer from hollywood. And of course don't forget the cool iconic pop songs which are thrown into the mix, just unbelievably uncreative.

I think that’d be a good recommendation. I’ve only played AC4, AC5, and AC7, but AC7 is definitely the place to start if you want to get into the series. One of the best things about the Ace Combat games is you can go back to the PS1 and the gas with feel just as smooth, but they really didn’t know how to make a proper challenge back then with deaths being annoying more than anything. AC7 is probably the best because unlike other Ace Combat games, it gets annoying because the things you have to do are really challenging. You never get confused about your objective, you don’t run out of ammo way too soon, but you’re given tasks that simultaneously grueling and refreshing, because even though they are hard, each mission presents a mechanic that the previous mission didn’t have, meaning the gameplay loop never gets stale. Honestly one of the best games of the 2010s

Your channel is awesome! Unfortunately it's pretty underrated. Your channel has a lot of potential, good script, good editing, good quality overall. Black is a classic, one of the best fps for the ps2, love this game. Tu é foda maninho, nunca desista desse seu canal meu mano, orgulhe o nosso país!

I'm not really an FPS guy, but have to admit the soundtrack is really good for it's own design theme. *Cough* Unbou- *Cough*

The graphics on this game are so good i remember not being able to get past the asylum level on the game, and speaking of graphics killzone also had banger ones

Killzone looked pretty good but the sound design, controls, and gameplay were crimes against humanity

Black is a great showing for RenderWare as well. Though EA's acquisition of Criterion and their tech left a sour taste in everyone's mouths - it partly served as a driving force behind R* developing their own in-house game engine.

Here in Perú this was massively popular especially in the internet cafes around that time hehe even tho i was a kid like you i had my fair share of hours put into this game hehe

I will never forget the first time I played the Black demo. It completely changed my idea of what a shooter could be.

I thought the name Michael Giacchino sounded familiar. He did the score for Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction, coincidentally another military themed EA game. That score was fantastic, I highly recommend everyone give it a listen even if you never played the game. The soundtrack is Godlike! If you only listen to one song, it’s gotta be Hidden Valley Bunker.

i noticed that bullets have a deflective trajectory after hitting rocks in the tunnel, too. neat.

I was 15 when this game came out and it never gets old to me

I’ll loved the intro with the AK-47 so much I would let it play like 10 times before actually starting a mission!

This gets me thinking about Airblade, which is also another Criterion game that isn't racing, but has extremely good gameplay.

You are completely right, videogame audio is so underrated..

I always saw this cover on occasions while searching for any FPS games to play. Well it is certainly interesting and the audio sounds real amazing. (Good job, you made me feel quite anxious with your eyes focusing on the window. I enjoyed 🙃)

This game was so good, but there was always something missing without replayability.

Fun fact…one of the reasons that EA bougt Criterion was because they developed together with Canon (yes the Canon cameras) the game engine RenderWare, that in the ps2 era was mostly used by every studio, even Rockstar! So EA thougt that they gonna get more money charging the use of RenderWare. But that backfired and now everyone started developing their games on Unreal Engine! Even me as an architect use for photoreal rendering!!And now thanks to EA they made Epic Games the behemoth that it is today.

Thankfully nowadays there's a mousehook mod for this game on PCSX2 (In short a hack that lets the aiming feel like a native PC shooter). The reason for the aiming in this era is that controller analog sticks are inherently inaccurate & make simpler movements than a mouse. The reason why Halo doesn't have the issue is that the game has generous aim assist & enemy/weapon design that meets the player halfway. In other words it was designed w/ controllers & consoles in mind. This is pretty much how most modern FPS on consoles work nowadays too. There's also earlier games like GoldenEye which had generous aim assist as well, but some games didn't quite catch on to that and just used your raw stick movements/didn't tune the sensitivity properly.

Love this game so much, I completed the Foundry level on black ops difficulty with pistol DC3 Elite and headshots only using the janky aim. 2 shots to the head magnum for the scary rushing shotgun dudes, memories❤

Certain games are just very popular in their region. WipEout wasn’t a huge deal for us Americans (north and south) but in Europe, especially in the UK and Ireland, WipEout was something you just had if you owned a PlayStation. Driving Emotion Type S is was a game that a lot of Japanese people that picked up a PS2 at launch experienced because there were only two racing games and that was one of them; meanwhile Driving Emotion flopped in every other region because there were more and better racing games on the PS2 when it launched in Europe and the americas. If you owned an Xbox, Xbox 360, or Dreamcast in the early 2000s, you probably had at least one PGR game (yes MSR is an official PGR game), unless you were Japanese, because despite being on of the most iconic Xbox exclusives, it just never was released in Asia. There are a lot of factors that contribute to a games region success, the great thing about the connection the internet brings is that it allows us to share and spread the love for games people from other regions never experienced either because it just wasn’t popular or wasn’t released

I loved Black. It was the first game I got when I picked up an old OG Xbox from a charity shop, though this was after I had a 360.

They had something to do with the Battle Royale mode on Battlefield V. Fire…Something.

The truth is that I enjoyed it very well since I bought the game pass and I was finally able to play it, the game looks pretty good, it seems like an Xbox 360 and ps3 version curiously

You know, here in CIS alot of very high quality content about game's soundtracks (say hello to "Дмитрий Бурдуков") and channels which spend half of game review on soundtrack discussions (yes, i talk about "Sumochkin production")

I can't understand why are some people saying that Killzone for PS2 is much better than Black. Killzone didn't even had a music and no checkpoints at all, and the weapons sounded like more a toy guns. But you still should play Killzone on PS2 and compare it to Black, it would be interesting.

Did the protagonist just clonk ( for the lack of a better term) the magazine against the gun? That is such an awesome detail I wouldn've expect in most games, especially not a ps2 one.

yes! there's also more than one reload animation for the guns, can't 100% confirm how it works but apparently whenever you're out of a fight, it'll show an animation (like clonking a mag into the MP5) and a faster one for whenever you're in a battle

For anyone wondering I meant the animation at about 5:41. I wanted to add it to my comment but forgot in the heat of the moment.

I’m pretty sure this game is backwards compatible on Xbox, so you can play this with a series X controller with Xbox style controls. Probably a much better experience than a DualShock 2 for an FPS

I remember playing black as a kid on PS2 , and it was such a blast , the game was and still looks really good, the story was good and the guns had a really great kick , overall it's one of my favorite old FPS game. Thanks for remembering me those old memories! Keep up with the good work brother 🖖🔥

I liked the PS2, but Xbox had the better controller for FPS games. Plus the game looks a lot better on Xbox and is backwards compatible on Xbox One X and Xbox Series X. Still impressive how Black and Killzone pushed the PS2 to its limits. Dang shame we didn't get that sequel. The spiritual successor released on Xbox 360 and PS3 wasn't good. Hopefully, Black will be remastered. A bunch of older FPS games are getting remastered lately. Cold Winter is worth a look too. It was an M rated FPS only released on PS2.

IDK if it was that popular here in Finland but I had it for my PS2 and had played it on a few friends' Xboxes too.

WHAT A GAME! Black is overrated?! Well, yeah...But, this game has a reason to be so fucking popular, specially here in Brazil, where the pirate game sellers spread the word to the world...And the reason it's just 'cuz the game is GOOD AS FUCK! Technically talking, despite the "heavy" gameplay (usually I ignore this fact because this is kinda of a generation 'problem'), the game barely has issues. Maybe the only glaring mistake it's the duration of live action cutscenes and the fact we couldn't just SKIP then. Despite this, I don't know how define Black if don't be by MASTERPIECE! . It's amazing to see this great game being covered by you, Bloo! Cê é brabo, meu patrão! :D

BLACK is a killer game. Arguable better than any call of duty of the time.

Great video and thanks for reminding me of this game, although since I'm from South America I couldn't complete it since some of the games failed and I couldn't complete it. hehe Also in my childhood I had a PS2 DVD that its name was like Mario bros Collection, I had that game for a part of my childhood and I remember that it started with a menu (since at that time I did not know English) I gave it any option and they left a catalog of practically all the classic mario games, could it be that this game is on the internet? I would be very grateful if you could find it, you are the best btw. ❤

Used to play the crap out of this game on the OG X-Box while listening to Lamb of God Ashes of the Wake with the custom soundtrack feature. Those were the days. lol This is one of those games I wish they'd re-master (that original X-Box version) in 4k and re-release on Steam. I'd play the crap out of it all over again. Not perfect, but I'd still play it. Would be a great game for the Steam Deck.

Is the movement actually superior on the XBox? I have often noticed Halo had better feeling controls then PS2 FPS games, but I figured that was just Halo. I don't have any games for both XBox and PS2 to test myself.
