I didn't expected you would do a video on Sonic, mad respect for having the balls to touch the sonic bee hive nest, I know very well how chaotic it can be lol. Now a few thing I would like to point out, first, it would be about the story of this game, well, this game is about the origin of shadow, so the game and the creators expect that you already seen the story of previous games we're shadow appeared (Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Heroes), so some things like Maria and the Ark, shadow being a experiment, wouldn't make much sense if you don't know the story of Sonic Adventure 2, wich is we're many of those things, including shadow itself, we're introduced. The second, is about Sonic, a lot of people think that Sonic is only about going fast, buuut... Is not exactly that, the philosophy of most sonic games is about learning the ropes, the level design, enemy positioning, so you can play the level again, getting better and going faster and getting a better score. They're really focused on replayability, trying to get better wich each time by memorizing how the level is, basically what I want to say is, don't worry if you go bad the first time, that's expected of most game, very few are you supposed to go well the first time. My favorite game, Sonic Unleashed HD is also like that, you'll take some time to get the ropes of both Sonic and the Werehog lol. So basically, don't worry about not being good at first in a sonic game. Either way, I'm impressed that you've decided to do a video on Sonic Game and specially on this sonic game, it's interesting to see the opinion of someone that is not in touch with the franchise or interacting with it, it was quite refreshing, great video blue, love the little bit about mario and mario on cr**k, hope the Sonic fandom don't come making hell in the comment section lol, good luck my man and keep doing the great work.

@@BlooTeg don't worry, sonic games are kinda hard to get into at the start, hope you have with the others once you try it out, also, I have to mention, but the Sonic Unleashed two different versions of the game, the so called SD made by Dimps on the PS2 and Nintendo Wii, and the HD made by Sonic Team for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, while they have the same story and concept, the gameplay is a little different between both games, so there may be people speaking about the different version if you do a video of one of them.

So about your history with discovering: yeah usually people who are not familiar with the series at the time thought that sonic games are supposedly to be fast and only fast but no classic and some of later games are more about playing the game at you own pace until you get at the point of being super fast, sadly this idea and marketing end up being a harm to the series because the games until forcers are so focus on speed that they make levels so shallow and poor in content that you just need to hold a button to win. Also the level layout up is for bad down is for good

Fun fact: Despite Shadow using a gun was mocked by pretty much everyone, including fans, it was the result of Sega getting letters from FANS to give Sonic a gun, especially during the increase of games where shooting is prevalent. The team tried to sidestep the request through compromises before with Gamma's gameplay in Sonic Adventure and the Tails/Eggman stages in Sonic Adventure 2, but ended up fulfilling it, with Shadow as compromise.

The main problem I had with this game was that it didn't lean into the gunplay as much as it should've. Crackdown, a game that came out a few years after STH, was a much better example of a platform shooter.

Here is the thing: when Sonic fans are talking about how fast and amazing classic Sonic games are, they are talking about the first minute of Green Hill Zone. That's it, that is what whole Sonic fandom is built upon: one minute of the first level. So, yeah, Shadow being the best Sonic game isn't that far-fetched

Hands down, shadow is one of the best titles in the sonic series! Something we want to see again... it was such a surprise to see sonic's world in such a dark theme and chaos... 10/10 a cult classic.

6:40 - I have to thank you for telling me the name of this song. I thought I dreamed it up, because I heard it a few times around 1999, and it just kind of disappeared. And because of the distortion on the vocals and how long it's been I couldn't remember the actual lyrics of this song. I would always get this itch to try to find the song again, look for it, fail, give up, and then forget about it for a while. This is the most random way I've ever found a song I'd forgotten the lyrics to and/or title of, but I'm glad to know, regardless. I know this is probably going to be the most random comment on this video, but I'm just so grateful because I've been searching for this song on and off for several years now.

Love the review also the story actually did take place after sonic heroes and sonic heroes takes place after sonic adventure 2 and 1 this game and sonic adventure 2 will be my most favorite game ever created i wish they can make a remaster of this game

this game has some charm, the gameplay is so terrible I used to think I was bad at it, until I tried playing it again after maturing, but Shadow is a hell of a character and the soundtrack is fire 🔥 who else is hyped for Sonic 3??

I'm glad other people feel the same way that I do about this game. This game is so funny and cringy that it becomes cool again. I have so many of this games songs on a playlist.

I liked this game too. And the Adventure games. This is actually a follow up to Adventure 2, so the story would make a bit more sense if you were familiar with that. Can't really say HOW much more sense though, I don't really remember. Some of the cutscenes were flashbacks though, Maria sending Shadow to Earth was before Adventure 2 iirc.

Good video! Your post a while back made me wonder if your favourite would be one of the kart racers- have you played Sonic All Stars Transformed? It's been ages, but back when I played it I preferred it to Mario Kart. Btw, regarding your confusion with the story, I've not played this specific game but I don't think Maria's ever been a ‘current’ character, she's always just a person from Shadow's backstory. She probably will have already died before the game even starts, but Shadow does tend to have flashbacks to her. Also, Sonjc games are well known for having great soundtracks- even if the game itself sucks! Sonic 06 is a prime example 😁

I don't wanna be the guy that goes ACKSHUALLY☝🤓 But this game expects you to have played sonic adventure 2 before going in, so that's why the Maria stuff is pretty much unexplained Any way, the story is still a mess, and all the endings just involve Shadow being gaslit by different people in different ways.
