The Foundations: Rewilding Chile & Rewilding Argentina - Ep. 3
At the “little school of the macaw” in Corrientes, Argentina, birds rescued from captivity are being taught how to survive in the wild again. When its “students” are ready, the team at Rewilding Argentina will release them back into their natural habitats to recover their roles in seed dispersal. Conservation heroes Kristine and Douglas Tompkins embarked on a journey to restore and protect the extraordinary wilderness of southern Chile and Argentina, and they have accomplished what many deemed impossible! They transformed degraded landscapes into fully functional ecosystems by reintroducing native species, including jaguars and giant anteaters, and have now successfully protected millions of hectares of land. Thanks to their efforts, we are now seeing a baby boom in the Iberá National Park in north-eastern Argentina, where jaguars have returned after 70 years of absence! Can you imagine the impact that their rewilding efforts will have on the environment for centuries to come? It's inspiring to see how this couple's sustained commitment and hard work have paved the way for the conservation of our planet's most precious resources.
