Build Me Up Buttercup was a 1968 monster hit. The lead singer here is one of the four Black members of this interracial band that also had three White members. They were an anomaly back in the 60's. I cannot believe it's been 54 years ago when I first heard this song as a 14-year-old teen. Now that I am 68 years old, and a senior citizen. The song still rocks me to my core... Great post and reaction.

Colin Young is the lead singer here. This song was written by Foundations piano player, Mike D'Abo (former lead singer for Manfred Mann....you heard him on "Mighty Quinn") and longtime hitmaker Tony Macaulay. Macaulay wrote, among others, songs like "(Last Night) I Didn't Get to Sleep at All" by the 5th Dimension, and David Soul's "Don't Give Up on Us," both which he wrote on his own. Macaulay collaborations include "Sorry Suzanne" by The Hollies and "Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)" by Edison Lighthouse. He's still around at 76, as is D'Abo at the same age!

@Gary Dodgson , No, he was born overseas in an army hospital and raised on an Indian reservation here in the States. I met him in the mid-70's in Hollywood when he was a neighbor and friend of one of my best friends. He and his wife at the time owned a recording studio in Hollywood in the late 70's through the 80's called Dhu-Ron Studios. She was Maura Dhu Albertson, daughter of actor Jack Albertson. He later moved to New Mexico with his 3rd wife. That's the last time I saw him, about 2 years before he died. BTW, Sam Cooke was his uncle.

What a bank full of memories this song brings up. This was popular when I was 10 or 11 years old. We had a local radio station (WOTT AM radio...FM wasn't around yet) that played this song. My father had a reel to reel tape recorder that weighed a ton... well it felt that heavy to a young girl of 10 or 11. I had recorded a couple of hours of music from the station and this song was on it. One of my friends that lived about a mile from my house was having a pajama party so I carried that tape recorder to her house... I was pooped, I tell ya. But what a dance party we had. Thanks for your reaction, Jay.... Take care and be well. Peace.

And as luck would have it, "There's Something About Mary" will be rebroadcast today, Sunday January 3, 2021 at 3:40PM East Coast U.S. Time on the cable TV/streaming channel called "Freeform" (formerly known as "ABC Family" before 2016). Definitely worth checking out for the laughs and the nostalgic theme of the movie itself as it has "aged" very well in its own right, and doesn't at all seem like the movie was made over 20 years ago, because the movie was so well done.

WOW! Great memories. When we were at Sweet 16 parties this is the song where all the girls got into a circle , danced and sang our hearts out! Love it! Thanx J!!!

This song was written by Mike D'abo, the second lead singer of Manfred Mann. Their other big hits include 'Baby,Now That I've Found You' and 'In Those Bad,Sad Old Days'(I think that's the title). Also, check out their live version of 'S.O.S' famous by Edwin Starr. Great backing and vocal👍

Such a fun, positive song. "Double-Barreled One-Hit Wonders"? A suggestion: while the whole album is amazing, it's the only album by David + David, "Boomtown". The one hit was the title track. If you dig it, I highly recommend the last track, "Heroes" as well. It's a little jewel in my box of music.

Here are a couple 70s one hit wonders to consider for a reaction. Daddy Dew Drop - Chick-a-Boom which reached #5 on the Cash Box Top 100 and The Tea Set - Ma Belle Amie which reached #5 on the Billboard Top 100. If you want to hear a 70s doom and gloom one tit wonder song about a plane crash check out D.O.A. by Bloodrock. The song was banned on many radio stations but still reached #36 in the Billboard Top 100. That's for all the reactions you do
