Stuff we use:
CAMERA - This is the camera we have used to film 90+% of our interviews (over 200 interviews and counting) It continues to be our workhorse - amzn.to/2u66V1J
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
AUDIO
Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/2t1n2hx
Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/2tbFlM9
LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv
COMPUTER - Our favorite computer, we each have one and have used various models since 2010 - amzn.to/2t1M67Z
EDITING - We upgraded our editing suite this year and we’re glad we did! This has improved our workflow and the quality of our work. Having new software also helps when we have a problem, it’s easy to search and find a solution - goo.gl/56LnpM

"Comedy helps us live with who we are." Precisely.
"Comedy is the art of hope" - pretty epic quote

well technically Comedy is the FART of hamlet
Comedy tell who we are, our truth, our vulnerabilities, never giving up hope; Drama tell who we want to be, our dream;
"Drama shows us what we could be, comedy shows us the truth" and "comedy is the art of hope" are both such good quotes.
This is on Jonahs playlist

Amazeballs point about difference between comedy and drama. Never thought of it like that. A very powerful, simple truth
That was an extraordinarily useful reminder. I know how to revise the next draft of my comedy script. Thank you!

@@ravon1982 Is this a feature, or a tv show? For features, you might read my book, "The Comic Hero' Journey", as well as Pilar Allesandra's "The Coffee Break Screenwriter." For TV, read Ellen Sandler's "The TV Writer's Workbook."

Good explanation of comic relief👍

What happened between Steve Kaplan and Illeana Douglas that got him so defensive at the start of this video? He looked scared and cornered.
Interesting interview. A well spoken man with a unique perspective. Thanks

Have 2 possibilities and diverge at the end or have 2 things with a similar route or character traits and compare at the end. Red Fox and Chapelle are real good at it
Thank you. Very helpful. I have a play series I'm writing called " pig in a Web" poetry was my entry to playful writing

I’m writing a movie about Shackleton I want it to be in the style of Disney’s old treasure planet and Atlantis films. I can get the money to make it someday i just know it
I completely disagree with “Comedy is the art of hope.” Comedy is the art of truth and truth Isn’t always hopeful. But hey, wtf do I know
Elizabeth the first just called-wants her chair back
I try to make comedy sketches...... That's about it.
I was sitting home weeping softly writing haiku ... then I farted and laughed my ass off.
I'll make sure my character is hamlet that is an egg and ham omelet that farts.
does anyone else feel the need to google the rules for writing haiku? i remember we learned them in grade school.
Wher the insprasatuin
So is comedy separated from irony? I mean, if you say it's the art of hope, does he mean that laughter is the hope or that the story is?

The act of characters constantly striving , despite the lack of skills, is a both a hopeful act and a metaphor for modern life.
I’m curious what type of people watch videos like these? People who are bored and are surfing youtube? Or like my reason, to learn how to be a good screenwriter?

I always put a lot of farts in my scripts.

I just started writing a short comic series and I wanted to know how to professionally write comedy dialogue and get the admiration of all age groups, and what are the writing rituals? Is it schizophrenia? Or is the writer drunk? Or what?...Oh, please don't laugh at my questions because I'm upset
I somehow doubt he writes oneliners...
ugh it's one of those
my god 4 mins to ask first qu
Actors are rarely funny. Humor is organic even when written.
American sitcoms just aren't funny. The UK has started to adopt the same style of comedy, I'm sick of it!! Do the writers have to wear hard hats and steel toe capped boots while they're experimenting because most of the comedy on TV is trash...?

Jay Kingston I would have disagree with that. I've also found many UK comedy shows unfunny. But for the most part, US comedy shows do tend to be forced. I personally don't find the Big Bang Theory funny but The War at Home was incredibly hilarious. Why? I don't know. The War at Home just felt like regular conversation. Comedy that just comes out "naturally". Maybe because it lets go of this idea that comedy needs to be predictable. Drake and Josh was huge for every kid growing up in the 2000s like me. And that show even for being a kids show was incredibly hilarious.
I don't see it making sense!
My process kzread.info/dash/bejne/iqJ4t4-Aoq_fdZM.html
i did not understand anything this man said
For once, I have no criticism of a statement someone made. Shocking...
In my life, I've seen about 2 hours of Jerry Seinfeld material, and it never made me laugh - not once. Now, the chance of me seeing the only two hours' worth of unfunny material Seinfeld ever produced is so vanishingly small as to be not worthy of consideration. Conclusion? Seinfeld made some people laugh, like any other comedian.
CNN is real News... Now thats funny.
There is no formula for writing comedy. Those who think so are incompetent. Television is cluttered with awful, formula sitcoms, as is the movie business.

lol So.......a guy that has ZERO comedy writing credits, let alone zero writing credits (has he actually even written ANYTHING?), and just runs business comedy workshops; trying to tell others how to write. This is probably Steve's greatest joke. "I've never done it, or had any success doing it, but listen to be. I'm the expert."
