The forgotten PICTURESQUE harbour village of PORTPATRICK the Rhins of Galloway in SCOTLAND
Join me as we explore the seemingly forgotten picturesque harbour village of Portpatrick the Rhins of Galloway in Scotland. Portpatrick is a seaside village located on the west coast of the Rhins of Galloway peninsula in Wigtownshire, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. It was once a busy port that served the ferry to Northern Ireland and is now a serene holiday resort with pastel-colored houses and a stunning bay. Portpatrick is popular with outdoor enthusiasts, with the well-known 212-mile walking route, The Southern Upland Way, starting in the village. Portpatrick's origins stretch back about 700 years, with the ruins of Dunskey Castle and the roofless remains of the St Andrew's Old Parish Church attached to a circular tower dating back to the 1500s.

Welcome my dear friend
My great grand parents and before are buried in the village cemetery, my 96 year old mother mother was born and raised in the Old Lochans and I spent and still spend happy times at the Port. I still remember my father drinking with his friend from the lifeboats Mr Jimmy Mitchell in the pubs, times long past. Most of the old locals have sold up but the new folks are all very nice and want to do their best for the village.

It's great that you still enjoy visiting where your roots are. It sounds like you go back a few generations of family there. I bet they all had a few tales to tell of the place and the area. When I was in the cemetery a lady was visiting a grave of a relative for the very first time. She was tracing her lineage and found that one of her ancestors was buried there and their gravestone was next to the church tower. I was only in Portpatrick for the day but found it to be a real gem and surprisingly peaceful for a Bank Holiday. Not that I was complaining about that. It's good that the new folk moving into the area are doing their best for the village. It would be a shame if it was altered too much. I'd love to go back one day and spend more time there.

Hello Paul. What a quiet and beautiful harbour. It's a calm and cozy village that appears in fairy tales that I often read when I was a child 😊Thank you for sharing 👍
Harbours are one of the best places to explore. Had been to Scotland pre covid.

I enjoyed my time in Portpatrick and indeed on the Mull of Galloway. I agree it's a gem of a place and one that the crowds don't seem to have discovered 🙂
Such a beautiful village by the sea! I love the peaceful atmosphere there, the harbour and cemetery is cool.
Hello Paul. Such a lovely, picturesque town. Beautiful rocky shoreline. Great views of the buildings, church, harbor and boats. Nice light house and that shop with all the cool statues. Wonderful narration and information.
The Forgotten Picturesque Harbor Village. Really beautiful...
So beautiful place ! love the peaceful Village with amazing view! Thanks so much for your time to up load, Awesome video!
It's fun to see the great view of Port Patrick Harbor. I followed your steps and enjoyed the scenery. Thank you so much for sharing. ☘️
Beautiful harbour village of portpatrick scenery! I really appreciate the close-ups on harbor village. That attention to detail makes me feel like I'm there!
Places like this are why I love the west coast of Scotland. They all have a real charm of their own. The sea is gin clear and as you head up north the sand on the beaches gets increasingly whiter and on sunny days the atmosphere beachside is almost Caribbean, there's even palm trees.. honestly!. 👍👏🙏. Nice video and narration mate.

I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I arrived here but I did expect to have problems parking on a Bank Holiday. To my surprise, I didn't. I really enjoyed my visit there and also hiked up the coast towards Dunskey castle and beyond so saw a few beaches, including a private one! Also hiked around the Mull of Galloway near the lighthouse in the days preceding so saw a few beaches there too. I had the weather as well so that added to the enjoyment. I'm glad you enjoyed this video and the narration. Thank you very much for watching 🙂👍Paul
I have been fascinated with Scotland ever since watching the movie BRAVEHEART. I think it is one of the coolest places on earth. I would love to go there some day. Thanks for this wonderful tour. Have a great day my friend.

The history of the harbour is very interesting. It became now wonderful tourist attraction and beautidul town.
This is one of our favourite places to go every time we visit this part of Scotland. Its really beautiful but does get extremely busy in summer. Such a lovely place for families and or couples to just relax and bimble about the harbour, shops and cafe. You did an excellent job showing this hidden gem. Thankyou for your time and effort. 😁

I'm glad you enjoyed the tour the of Portpatrick. It was my first time here and it certainly is a hidden gem. This visit was on a Bank Holiday Monday at the end of May. I was surprised but thankful to find how quiet it was. I really enjoyed my day in Portpatrick and hope to be back again one day. Thank you very much for watching and dropping me a lovely comment 🙂 Paul
The ruins of the historic Dunsky Castle and the view of the old St Andrew's Old Parish Church make feel at ease. Thank you for the great video.

Thank you for sharing another incredible tour, everything is captivating and well narrated. The graveyard is a fabulous place for a vlogger to explore. Walking through the area is like stepping back in time, and it's incredible how far back these places can be dated. Enjoyed! 👍👍🌊🏔

I can only imagine this was filmed in the morning, outwith the school holidays, because Portpatrick is a very popular village. Excellent views, beautiful costal walks, rich history and friendly people, along with the many good restaurants and pubs make it very popular with locals and tourists alike.

This was late morning on a Bank Holiday Monday for the coronation. I was expecting to have parking problems and it be a lot more busy than it was. Not that I was complaining. I did a walk up to Dunskey castle and then down the coast before circling back into Portpatrick that afternoon. I enjoyed what little time I had there and wish I could have a spent a few more days exploring.

It's a lovely little village with quite a bit of history. I was very surprised at how quiet it was on a Bank Holiday. When visiting also try to get down to the ruined Dunskey Castle which is around 1/2 mile from the main car park in Portpatrick, which is free. I have a video on the walk to Dunskey Castle and down the coast if you're interested. I hope you get great weather when you visit. Many thanks for dropping me a comment, Paul
Port Patrick looks like such a lovely harbour village. Such beautiful views of the water and lovely buildings. So nice to hear the history about the harbour village. Beautiful lighthouse and so nice to see the boats. Incredible how the tower may date back to the 1520s, it looks so good for how old it is! Some of those graves look so old and weathered from being next to the sea, but they are in such a beautiful place. Your narration is amazing and this was so beautiful to see. Thanks for bringing us along! :)

wow. that opening shot. I think it is so beautiful how all the "old" European towns are very distinct. Not only from country to country, but sometimes also within countries. Architecture was something else back then

Lovely walking along with you today Paul...this is a quaint little town with so much history...I love hearing all of it, so interesting! What a lovely lighthouse, but the cemetery stones are what really caught my eye...so many names on each stone...at first I thought they had writing on them, (epitaph)I had to stop the video so I could look closer...so high with many names...I love the round church in the cemetery also...beautiful video, great story teller Paul...I could listen all day! Hi Donna, I'm glad you enjoyed the tour. Tho I wish I'd walked up the hill to hotel to view the harbour from higher up. I ended up walking the other way to the cliff top castle and down the coast. I noticed the tower from afar and it interested me so I had to go and explore. I believe some of the stones had names of people who had lost their lives at sea. Whilst there a lady who had been researching her ancestry was visiting a grave of one of her relatives which was pretty cool. Thank you very much for taking time to watch. Have a great week 🙂👍Paul

Hi Yasmin, I arrived in Portpatrick a bit late expecting to struggle to park up as it was Bank Holiday. I was very surprised at how quiet it was but obviously not complaining. The water and the sea did seem very calm. I think the dog had to be rescued by the coast guard in the end but it was alive and walking ok from what I could see. Thank you for coming along for the premiere. Have a great week 🙂 Paul

wow amazing place very beautiful thumbs up video my friend thanks for sharing stay safe always and have a great day ahead
Awesome location mate thanks for showing us 👍
Thank you, Paul, for this wonderful tour around Portpatrick. Most impressive to me are all those heavy rocks separating land and sea. This is the typical environment for a population that mostly lived off fishing activities. It's also nice that there don't seem to be any contemporary high-rise buildings. Everything much the way it has always been. The tower remnants of that old church give me a nostalgic vibe and would - if filmed in the dark combined with visuals of the graveyard - be the perfect scenery for Halloween clips. Somehow, I don't think that you ever get huge crowds of tourists over there. Looking forward to your next project. Thumbs up! Full watch. Kind regards, Paul

Hi Paul, it also looked like part of the pier where the lighthouse sits has broken up a bit over time. It sure doesn't seem to have been spoiled with modern living. However I was very surprised at how quiet it was as this was a Bank Holiday weekend when people usually flock to places like this. I wasn't complaining tho. I noticed the tower from afar so thought it would be good to explore and check it out. The graveyard was pretty old with some of the headstones leaning so would be a cool place for Halloween with a full moon. I'm glad you enjoyed the tour. Thank you very much for taking time to watch. Have a great week, Paul

The port, as its known locally is absolutely heaving in the summer. You were there on an English bank holiday not a Scottish one. Come back the first week in August for lifeboat week and you won't be able to move for folk. It definitely is NOT a forgotten village!
