Spygate happened before the 16-0 season. They lost to the Colts in the 2006 season AFC championship game, then had Spygate happen to start the 2007 season.

  • @patrickpilkington6241

The Patriots went 16-0 the same season as Spygate. In fact, this story broke after the week one game against the NY Jets. Eric Mangini became the Jets HC prior to the '07 season. Mangini was Belichicks protege and closest confidant on the Patriots staff. The Jets were Bills nemesis. So when Mangini left against Bill's advice and left for the Jets it set the stage for the week 1 game and in Randy Moss' first game as a Patriot, the '07 Pats blew their doors off in the Meadowlands. Mangini, knowing that Bill taped the sidelines clandestinely with the spies wearing "NFL" vests, Jets security apprehended the spies and confiscated the tapes and cameras. "Spygate" began to break Sunday night week 1 of 2007. By Monday morning the story was beginning to catch fire. By week 2 it was a full blown scandal. I was at the home opener vs the Norv Turner, Philip Rivers, LaDanian Tomlinson San Diego Chargers. The Patriots are their lunch. That '07 team was a WAGON. Despite losing to the Giants in 42, I believe they're still the best team of all time. They ran the table up until that Tyree fluke catch and the subsequent Eli to Burress TD. That team won all the games up until the Super Bowl under the shadow of a major scandal. It's hard to even fathom how that distraction didn't upend them completely. They just played and blew out nearly everyone. So much so that "running up the score" became scandalous to a lesser degree. Anyways... it's off topic from Roger the clown but, I just wanted to correct the record on when "Spygate" occurred, what led up to it, how it was "discovered", the Bill Belichick feud with the NY Jets stemming back to his 2000 Napkin resignation days prior to signing on as HC of the Patriots, a story going back to 1997 when the Jets nabbed Bill Parcels from the Patriots after tensions with owner Robert Kraft. Bill B was assistant HC of that AFC Champions team led by Parcels. Kraft got revenge on the Jets for swiping his HC Parcels. The coach wars between the Patriots and Jets next chapter was their stealing of Bill's DC Mangini, who was DC of a team the year prior that was up 21-0 at the half of the AFC Championship game at the RCA Dome in Indy vs Peyton and the Colts. Peyton came back and got his first win in the Brady Manning rivalry in 06 which led the Patriots to go get WR talent as they lacked majorly in 06. Bill Belichick was ready to destroy his protege, destroy the Jets, and he had all the talent to do exactly that. Brady connected to Moss on a bomb where Moss trucked by the dbs like nothing ever seen before and we all knew at that moment, the Patriots were a potential 19-0 team. Bill was arrogant to keep up the practice of spying clandestinely when the guy he mentored was his opponent and knew that there would be spies out there in "NFL" vests. He did it anyways. Shows the balls the guy had. Mangini, I think likely just wanted it stopped but, the bad blood going back to 1997 between Kraft, the Jets, Bill and the Jets and now Bill and Mangini, meant that the story was going to get out. It's New York after all and the media had a major story with the best team in the league in the last 6 years and the team that looked like it could be the best team in league history. It was one of the biggest stories in NFL history running alongside the greatest team, the greatest season of the greatest QB, the greatest season of a WR, under the greatest head coach in league history.

You summed it up perfectly explaining how spygate was discovered. As a Chargers fan, I’ll never forget watching that week 2 game live. This was a Chargers team LOADED with HOF talent that many thought would be a Super Bowl contender. To this day, I’ve never seen a team that good get so thoroughly humiliated from the first snap like the Bolts did that day. The scoresheet doesn’t even do justice to how one sided it was. TL;DR: Life is miserable and bleak. Being a chargers fan is just extra steps.

Goodell is a ray. Period. He ratted out his friends in high school and he has never stopped. Example: Gill Bryant and Jerry Jones. He would still be sitting in the league office snitching on his co workers if not for those two men. Then got the big seat and immediately began his campaign to increase the fan base of some of the big market AFC teams and try to curb the popularity of the Dallas Cowboys since Dallas had a larger fan base alone worldwide than the rest of the league combined ( IE mast popular team in ARZ. Calf Mexico, Japan and Australia ect ect). This situation allowed to much influence to the teams owner. The fear was that if Jones had 5 or 6 loyal allies that they could impose there will on the league and there would be little a commissioner could do. The individual teams signing endorsement deals is a prime example. The NFL did not want that policy. Jones did it anyway as he owned the team and owned the stadium which few others did. Goodell seeing knowing his attempt to stem the tide would make an us against them situation. When it came to the size of the Dallas fan base he did not want to be on the them side. So he waffled. Just like spy gate. The Patriots were the big market AFC team that under performed the most due to being a pretty bad organization all around. Years of no success to speak of, bad uniforms, and terrible facilities ECT. All of a sudden great coaches wanted the job, unusually odd officiating on the field, among other competitive advantages conspired to build the organizations footprint tremendously. Then BUSTED! They got sloppy and hot caught. Ever wonder why the Patriots treated Goodell like he was there bitch and then flaunted it in the media and got away with it? Goodell destroyed the tapes and made a show out of fines for the coach ant team ( laughable) because Goodell not only knew about it he may even have suggested it. That was a BIG part of his plan for NE to expand there fan base and influence. After that they had him by the nads. He could really do nothing about their future issues because they could expose his knowledge and involvement. Thats the real reason he destroyed the tapes and tried to sweep it under the rug. If you want to know how true insiders feel about spygate? Ask Mike Marts. If he spoke freely he would tell you without hesitation that NE won the SB against his team because their def. knew the Rams signals, plays and audibles. I've made this too long but the tuck rule, the Dolphins playoff losses to NE ect tells the story. Pay attention fans these aren't predictions these are the future. chiefs....pack your stuff your moving to Dallas or San Antonio soon. Sorry KC but your team used to be in Dallas ,your owners are from Dallas, the move can be justified on the grounds of the exploding population in that part of Texas ,and it puts a team in a position Goodell believes cut the Cowboys fan base. To make this possible a couple things had to be done to make the way. First Dallas had to be stopped from any big successes ( loose in prime time, no big play off wins, teams moving up to draft Dallas targets, ECT. The Houston Texans had to become viable. There new fan base was too small to hold up under another team close by. Out goes Watson and Hopkins for a wealth of picks, here come free agents to a place they never went B4 and here come play off wins. How long do you think before KC is moved 2 years maybe 3? Do what I have done and make a crap ton of money by betting on the games Goodell wants to influence. ARZ beating Dallas no matter the circumstances. Dallas losing improbable prime time and playoff games. Rams winning SB upon moving to LA. Chiefs winning big before the move. ECT. ECT. ECT. Do yourself a favor and bet everything you can beg borrow and steal on Houston this season (sell a kidney if you have to) to beat Dallas. It's already decided. He is a rat. Always has been always will be
