The Forgotten Elder Scrolls Mobile Game

Ойындар

The Elder Scrolls Travels: Shadowkey is one of the most elusive Elder Scrolls games out there! Probably because it was only released for the Nokia N-Gage. Yeah, that's why.

Shadowkey lore kind of has a cult classic status because there's all sorts of weird and interesting ideas in it that aren't really explored in future games. Shadow magic, alternate timelines, the Ice Tribes (a race of ice barbarians that were commonly believed to be the Falmer by fans before Skyrim came out), an ancient Ayleid airship that harvested stars, and whatnot.

Fun Fact: A lot of the Shadowkey lore (like implications from the War of Bend'r-Mahk for example) is used in Skyrim:Home of the Nords mod for Morrowind. You can even meet one of the very important characters from that game. You need to find him first though.

I had an N-Gage in the past. The game ran much more slowly on the actual hardware. The framerate never got fast enough for the game to look smooth and it dropped to single digit fps during fights, which made the game practically unplayable and created an annoying input lag. I never left the first village because of that. It was the same for the Call of Duty game on N-Gage, but there was a Ghost Recon first person shooter which actually ran smoothly enough to be enjoyable. Great video though!

When I was a younger and wanted an Elder Scrolls game on my old Iphone (old as in I think it was my dads 3G that got handed down to me) one of the games that came up on the app store was called “The Quest”. Does anyone else remember that game? I checked it out again and the version I own is now called “The Quest Classic” and a new version is out with higher resolution pictures but from taking a quick look I do really enjoy the look of the older one better, very charming and retro (might just be nostalgia though). Eventually, I started the game over again with a meme character. I picked the flower-crown girl icon and went with a spell caster build then named her “Magikid the (some evil adjective like Fearsome idk.) I tried a DLC and got stuck on it because of the skeletons that paralyze you in this convoluted maze. It was the sci-fi themed one and it made me so mad that I rage quit for several months. Great game though! Very enjoyable. Edit: Fixed some spelling mistakes lol.

I still have this game. I bought it when it came out. I know it looks a bit... yeah... but "back in the day" this was an amazing experience! N-Gage and N-Gage QD were innovative products that definitely left a mark in mobile phone history. I had the better version, "QD", where you didn't have to detach the phone battery to put the game in. N-Gage had a lot of good games, actually. They looked a bit clunky even back then, but the fact that you could play decent games on the go was damn nice. I especially loved this one football game and Pathway to Glory, which was a game that could still hold up today. Those truly were the days... and I'm old as fuck.

I actually had this on an original ngage. It was a really cool idea and was definitely awesome when I was in middle school. Unlike blades it was a legitimate attempt to make a real elder scrolls on a mobile device. If they had taken this formula and applied it to an iPhone it would have been much better than blades.

Really the nicest thing you could say about the N-Gage was that it could have been the Tapwave Zodiac. I’d also *really* recommend everyone look into this Oblivion PSP game prototype he mentions at the beginning; I’d never heard of that, and the footage is kinda wild 😆

It's amazing how you can see that the dagger was drawn on a black background. And how it fades into black at the edge. But the engine doesn't alpha transparency, so they just cut it out. and left the almost black pixels at the edge.
