The PSP would've been nutty if it had dual analog sticks. That's the ONE flaw I think the system really had. It was ahead of the curve in just about every other category. Still, it practically set the world on fire at the time without dual analog, so it wasn't like the system suffered from it or anything. Just that we might've gotten more FPS games, and ones that controlled way better.

Of all the content y'all produce, this series of videos (what went wrong/true story of, etc) have quickly become my favorite. It's everything I loved about Memory Cards (RIP memory cards 😢) distilled into a long form deep dive into one particular incident instead of simply listing multiple unrelated gaming facts. It also really let's the team showcase their journalistic ability. I really hope this continues.

Agreed, although I will say I'm a little disappointed in this one. I get no one wants to get hit with a lawsuit, but in the "true story" all we get is that they were happy with their work? That's some weak tea. I've wanted to hear the story of this game for so long that I was excited as hell to click on this video only for it to be the same as every other one. Once again, I get the issues of trying to track down these stories and they probably already put in so much time they had to cut their losses and just put it out, but it's still disappointing.

the sad thing is even if PSP Oblivion came out, it just wouldn't have matched those PSP GTA and Monster Hunter games in terms of how well the experience was translated. The GTA Stories games were as long and feature complete as the console GTAs, and even had mechanics unique to them. Oblivion just seemed like an increasingly diluted version of the original; cut skills, few notable locations from its tie-in, and overall a lack of consideration towards the "down time" of a Scrolls game.

Funnily enough a lot of people said the same about Redguard but the game was a great spin off. As long as you're not silly enough to expect a clone of the console game then there's still a lot to enjoy. And as it followed a different story it could've filled the gap nicely until Skyrim.

@@DarthPhillius i get what you're saying, but like the whole point of the psp was its ability to near replicate console experiences. its one thing to be knowledgeable about the hardware and have tempered expectations, but everything was going against oblivion psp. its temp boxart was literally just the oblivion boxart (could be blamed on storefronts but still). people were going to be expecting a full oblivion experience, and they simply wouldn't have gotten it from this game (although it would've still been acceptably good). my point was that neither GTA Stories or Monster Hunter made compromises, and were both actually ported back over to PS2 without changes--while GTA Stories on PS2 did kinda suffer from being so near GTA 4, the PSP Monster Hunter games were their definitive versions until the 3DS rolled around.

If I remember correctly, the PS3 version of Oblivion did not run very well. The framrate would dip alot and each save would increase the actual file size of the game and would eventually crash and corrupt saves. Most Bethesda games on PS3 would be like that which was why I was glad I chose to go with Xbox before switching to PC. The PS3 was just hard to develop games for, even Gabe Newell had to stop after the really bad port of The Orange Box on there. I'm going on a tangent, but I do remember seeing Oblivion on the PSP in the form of an article in a Gameinformer magazine back when people would actually read those lol; just seemed they couldn't fit a portable version of Oblivion as well.

I will never forget, getting to play the elder scrolls for oblivion for the first time!!! it is the game that got me into the series, heck it is the game that got me into playing large, open world, endlessly amazing and immersive large scale, single player, RPG games!!! I can only imagine if we got a portable version and how great that would’ve been?? I really feel like they should’ve went ahead with this project and revamped it for the Vita.. Oblivion to this day is one of my most beloved games of all time! Out of all the games I’ve ever played, I have the most special and warm, cozy place in my heart where oblivion is concerned due to how grand of an experience it was for me and My, few friends that played it during the first five years after it’s release. For its time, you could not not get more game for your Buck, where console gaming is concerned!! All you needed was about $450 to get you a good Xbox 360 and a copy of oblivion and you were playing 10 times longer without having completed the entire game, then people that might’ve bought a PS3 or an Xbox 360, and four or five typical god of wars And devil may cries and NFL and NBA games with the inclusion of a racing game or two?? With buying oblivion and an Xbox(which was the absolute best place to play it) and oblivion, you didn’t even need another game if you really liked adventure and exploration and RPG in general?! The Witcher three is the only other game that I can think of that for each time when it came out in 2015 came the closest as just how amazing oblivion was in 2006, even by 2009 when me and my best friend played it for the first time, it still blew you away then, and it was half off at that point !!!!

I was so hyped for the idea of a portable spinoff of oblivion when I was a kid, and I even pre ordered it back when I thought preordering games was ever a good idea. The beta looked like it probably wasn’t what most people, myself included, would’ve wanted out of it which feels like a big part of why it was likely canceled. Though the developers seemed to be doing the best you could really expect from a portable elder scrolls spinoff on 2005 portable hardware. Oblivion’s dungeons were kind of just bad and arguably the weakest part of the game. The large open environments and atmosphere on the other hand were really special for the time and there probably wasn’t a way to properly capture that psp hardware. I can’t even remember a single dungeon from oblivion because they all sort of blended together and were more or less just simple mazes with enemies strewn about and occasional braindead “puzzles”. The dungeons being almost entirely combat focused also helped highlight how weak the combat was. Still wish this game got to see a proper release though. The beta looked very far along in development and promising in its own right, the comparisons to the home console/pc version aren’t really fair given the massive difference in power. The psp really didn’t have any good western rpgs that I can remember at least and this really would’ve been a visual showcase for the time as a portable first person rpg.

Is it the same climax studios that made landstalker for genesis? I loved that game

I loved my PSP and was hyped for this game. Sad that it was never finished, it would have been my favorite game on the system I'd be willing to bet as Oblivion was my absolute farvorite game during that time.

Ive played it. It's fun but was never meant to be *oblivion* on the psp. It was a side story. It was a dungeon/ stage crawler. Fun and played very well.

I think when Vita came out, it wouldve been possible to port the console version of oblivion to it. Its amazing what you can push out of such an underpowered hardware with optimization. Gravity Rush and Killzone: Mercenary as examples of amazing looking games. Víta had the hardware power of smarphones released about half a year after it .. maybe more when it comes to graphics .. but by modern standard thats still crap .. only now are we able to emulate the full pc version on the most powerful android devices with box86 :D thats how much the technology had to evolve to overcome both no optimization and emulation/ translation layer handicaps (which is obviously much greater because a 2017 Switch with a 2015 underclocked mobile chip can play Skyrim natively :D )

Wow the audio on this one is really bad. Something happened with encoding this video. @TripleJump you may want to review and reupload this one.

Easily could produce a Andriod/IoS version today with how powerful phones have become.

What sucks is that NPCs in the game probably would’ve looked better than in Starfield
