The Flying Z Trains of La Plata, Missouri (WB Edition)
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
It is always a sight seeing a train on the BNSF Southern Transcon. The clips shown in this video are from the Amtrak platform in La Plata, Missouri along the BNSF Marceline Subdivision. Many of the Westbound high priority intermodal ‘Z’ trains seen last week during the unofficial La Plata rail celebration are shown in this compilation video. All clips shown were recorded with a tripod and my iPhone. Some of the clips have been recorded while zoomed-out, giving that “fisheye” and close to the train look. It is always a treat Railfanning with kind folks like the ones that were gathered this past week. Especially when trains like this run at track speed. Thanks for watching, I hope that you enjoy the speedy action.

It amazes me that so many railfans feel the need to stand right to the edge of the track to get their videos. One of these days one will get clobbered by something flying off. As an engineer, seeing stuff like this drives me nuts.

I agree. Standing that close to a train traveling faster than a crawl, can be dangerous to one's health. What would happen, if an object flew out from the train, and headed right at you? Or worse, the train were to derail, right in your direction? Chances are, your friends and family would be answering these questions. Because you would be seriously injured or worse, killed immediately!

Railfan here, and I can assure you there are some common sense railfans out there, including myself. I usually take 25 steps from the rail back and that's where I'll usually be positioned. Common sense unfortunately isn't common among the community

Im a railfan and i know everybodys different but for me standing at the yellow line ( when im not taking pics or videos ) the rush i get standing that close while a train is flying past is just unexplainable. I fuckin love it

i watch this camera a lot on Virtual Railfan and its amazing how fast they go through here, i would never stand so close to that train as these folks are
Crazy standing that close to tracks......final destination action.

That train derail everybody's dying
High speed freight trains and carrier launched planes are exhilarating.
I stood by a fence close by as IndyCars raced during practice. Watching these videos is giving me the same rush!

Ahhh…..ignorance on full display. Your family will be singing a different tune if something hanging off the side of a car cuts you in half. You won’t be singing the tune because you’ll be dead.
Those Intermodal Z trains just zoom through La Plata at high speed. Very cool to see. Excellent video KTRF. 🙂👍

If there is any kind of strap or other free floating object flying around the side of one of those cars, you’re DEAD. I’ve seen a loose metal strap put a dent in a signal hut before. Geez. 🙄
As an RFE it was very sad having to investigate deaths and injuries because of people being to close.

Sadly, there IS a cure for stupid…..and it’s a big damn train. And some people have to learn the hard way. Unfortunately, people like yourself have to see the carnage aftermath.
Wow, how impressive at the speed they pass here in Mexico,🇲🇽 they don't pass at that speed, not as slow, but not like the ones in the video. Wow, I'm impressed by how they pass from that side. Greetings, good video, good everyone. 😮😮😮😮
It's insane how sped up this looks, what's even more Insane is that this is how it looks, this train really is going 70mph😎😎😎
These trains are very large and incredibly fast. I would think one could back up a was and still appreciate the view...

Great footage. These large double decker intermodels, at this speed.. amazing. Thanks for sharing.
dangerous chain comes loose ouch
dang, that is awfully close to the rails, sheeeesh
I love standing in the bow wash of a train
A several million pound object flying past you at interstate speeds is something else, but what's even crazier is why you feel the need to stand so close to it??? If you'd like a close up shot just zoom in
I just wish that people wouldn't stand so close to the track. There's no telling how fast that train is going.
Sure, you were too close, but I’m not gonna beat that dead horse. I loved the video anyway. Amazingly fast freight here, damn! Keep up the good work, and please don’t die doing it. 🙏🏻
It got so quiet so fast, as if a train was never their to be begin with

Nice video! Can't wait to go in October.
I’m surprised no one got sucked into the train with the speed and wind if they were THAT close. For train crews that’s the most Nail Biting thing of all is seeing someone less than 10 feet from the tracks going 70 mph. I can see why the railroad has a hatred for “foamers” or “rail photographers” since everyone is considered as one now.
Great filming. Love and peace from Wolverhampton England

Do freight trains in England go fast? I know your passenger trains are very fast but I always wondered what your freight trains were like.
Awesome video! Super close to those Z’s!
Wow, speedy ones
Great video mate! We don't have freight trains going this fast in my country, so that was certainly a sight to see. I'm not going to argue about standing too close to the rails but I believe that the sound of rails are muffled by the intense wind wake created by the train due to your proximity to the rails. I would have loved to hear the rail seam sounds on this speed but all I can hear is "whooosh-whoooosh" :D
dude this is dope as hell looking fwd 4 more bud
These are awesome catches. those trains are FAST!

I am definitely taking a trip out to La Plata this summer! Gonna make La Plata my first railfanning video when I make my new channel this summer
Amazing frens
What a spot! I feel like the wind coming off of those things could power a small town for a day.
Thanks for the video, I don't get on to see the trains as much as I used to. Love LaPlata
Those trains absolutely whizz past! In the UK, goods trains aren't allowed to go more than 60mph.

It makes me nervous just watching those people standing so close to the tracks.

I LOVE TO SEE 70 MPH Trains KTRF
Sheer madness.
I’m not sure why people stand so close trackside to trains like this. If that trail derails, you’ll be gone before you know what hit you. Those 53 foot well cars are going by at the blink of an eye.
@KTRFP
9 ай бұрын
If a train were to derail at track-speed, the entire area and any people would be gone. It wouldn't really matter how far back on the platform we were standing. I will agree with you that I was pretty close in a couple of the clips, but for the most part it was just the tripod that was extremely close to the Z trains.

@@KTRFP If you're within 30 feet or less of a train moving 70 MPH, you won't even have time to flinch before whatever the train kicks up from the roadbed or whatever flies off the train goes right through you. That station is built all too close to those tracks.
Flying is right
I wonder how many hours it takes to load them?
how often do trains go by here?
@KTRFP

50-70 trains per 24 hours on the BNSF Marceline Sub.
Can you imagine walking on the tracks and being hit by that train you would not need rocket to reach moon

Ok theres good shots and close shots but theres a limit to being way too close. Cameras have zoom for a reason.
Ha ha ha at 7:01
Alot of foamer activity and behavior
People!!! Do you understand how fast those trains are going and you people are standing that close to the tracks, 70 or maybe 75 MPH. So you are choosing death. Stand a little bit closer and you'll get lucky.
Use a tripod and stand clear of that colossal kinetic energy machine!
@KTRFP

Indeed. Tripods are good.
No offense buddy but here in KZread land I want you to live. Please do not stand that close again. If ANY small thing popped out or protruded in any way which happens often, at that speed, you probably would not survive. Please be more careful with your life. Your life is worth Far more than the Money shot. Thank you.
Put on eye safety glasses if you are going to be so close.

@KTRFP

None of these clips are sped up. Just edited together. 0.5 zoom on an iPhone can enhance the look of speed which I was going for. Track speed through here is still 70 MPH.
A hobos lambo
Nice video, But do you really have to stand on the yellow line, Those trains move very fast and neither the crews nor anybody else wants to see you get hit by a train
When you're out there filming or photographing trains, you need to do a better job in keeping a safe distance from the tracks. On some of the reels you got a little too close and that's how a rail fanner got killed in Henderson, Colorado on July 21, 2018.
but why these videos sound fake, i mean i can't believe that train is that fast
@KTRFP
4 ай бұрын
Track speed through here is 70 MPH for allowed trains. I believe that 72.9 is the limit for penalty braking through PTC. iPhone camera may have also enhanced the speed a bit due to the zoomed out view. Trains like these pass every day on the BNSF transcon.
I've been in the industry for 22 years. Guys: get a tripod for your camera and weight it down so it won't blow over. PLEASE scoot back a little bit.
You're way too close. Hopefully it's recording when it does happen
These railfans must have the “Wile E. Coyote syndrome.” Hope that a shipping container does not fly off and flatten someone.
