"The Fix" 2001 Ford Escape Rough Running When Cold Runs Fine Warm=VICTORY!

Hey there Racer Rob Russell here the "Honest Master Auto Mechanic" and it is my goal to put some FUN and COOLNESS back into car repair and also educate my customers/fellow technicians on today's complex and confusing repairs!
My motto is and will always be that an " informed and educated" customer will make a good decision rather than have to "sell" them on the repairs.
How KOOL is that!
So today's follow up video is on the "VICTORY FIX" on my customers Ford Escape.
Just a few corrections to the description I gave when talking I replaced the upper and lower intake plenum rubber gaskets and when I talk about the valves they open and close going into the combustion chamber to let the intake air in, and the exhaust gases out and don't go "into" the pistons that would be bad!!! :)
Again, I don't want to make these video's to technical or BORING.....since they are geared towards educating my customers, but in the very near future I will be making training videos for my fellow technicians! :)
So with that out of the way enjoy!
Couple quick notes on the repair as well:
The low coolant light was on as well even with the coolant full and the sensor which is located in the coolant reservoir was defective. I removed the coolant reservoir to find out more about the sensor and try to clean it. Of course I could not see the inside but when I was flushing out the reservoir I heard a mechanical float valve bouncing back and forth so I flushed it out real good, turned the reservoir upside down and back several times, reinstalled the CR and filled with new coolant and the low coolant light is now out.......VICTORY!
NOTE To my fellow techs/shop owners going this EXTRA MILE is HUGE and your customers will LOVE you especially when you can get the fix. Even if it did not fix the problem I would have told the customer I did my best.
I also do a 52 point inspection on every vehicle and both of the license plate lights where burnt out which could be a ticket and replaced those as well!

    i got a 91 explorer with the 4.0l and it sounds like the same exact issue thanks for the video I'm gonna change my rings out

    I had the same issue in a 2001 Mazda Tribute V6. I replaced all of the upper and lower gaskets, IAC gasket and throttle body gasket (and cleaned the TB), PCV valve at once. Fixed the problem, runs like a charm. Good video, wished I would have made one when I did my fix about 6 months ago... I ended up blowing a spark plug because of the idle. Put OEM (Motorcraft) plugs back in did the repairs and I think I picked up a little bit better gas mileage in the process maybe 1-2mpg

    P B mine is idling bad in cold weather and fluctuates when driving too.i blew a spark plug as well. 02 v6

    +JG Laboratory change fuel injectors n it won't blow the coil. Also check wiring make sure there's no copper showing just used electric tape. 🖒

    I have an 07 V6 AWD. Currently getting 15mpg. Are there any specific values to look at with scan tool to try and diag this problem. Long and short fuel trims are spot on. filters are new also. thanks

    What happens if my Mazda starts to miss when it's warm when it warms up it starts to run like crap so like it's got a bad plug but I don't understand

    Mine runs like dog Sh$t when cold, and then runs out nice after about 20 min. I also get a misfire on cylinder 3 when this happens. I changed plug and coil. Do you think I am having the same issue as you?

    I have a 2005 Ford Explorer that I inherited from Dad when he passed it's been running fine but lately when I start it for the first time in the day when the engine is totally cold it Lopes once or twice then the idle evens out and it runs fine the rest of the day do you have any suggestions

    I forgot to tell you the car runs with a smooth idle all day at around 800 to 1000 rpms

    Anybody have a 4 cylinder escape (2003 to be exact 2.0 zetec) that does this. I HAVE changed the intake and throttle body gaskets, no change. I have changed every sensor and iac valve, new pcv valve and boot, new purge valve and canister/valve/solenoid. Cleaned throttle body and replaced with used unit, leaked at shaft. oops. Replaced vacuum lines that were deteriorating. New EGR, solenoid, and flow sensor, but runs better with EGR disconnected or blocked off. Didn't measure any backpressure in exhaust. Tried a couple sets of injectors. No codes at the moment, did previously get random stuck rich codes. But runs excellent warmed up with good gas mileage, but can't accelerate when first started, without almost killing it. And by cold start, I mean it hasn't been started for 20 minutes or more, but the temp is still showing warm, and it runs crappy for a bit.

    @@th3frogman Yes, replaced that, too. I finally got my problem fixed. It turned out that while trying to diagnose one problem, a new ignition coil that was acting funky, I installed some more defective parts, all new aftermarket parts, of course. In the end I got a defective coil, O2 sensor, 2 other defective parts, and a fuel pump that only lasted 3000 miles. When I would replace one part, it would still not run right because another defective part. In the end, I started putting all the original parts back on, and found the defective parts.
