I can say I was there at the time watching this first 147 of the World Championship in 1983.👍

41 years after this historic event, I still regularly watch this and enjoy it in a country that does not have professional snooker, Bosnia!!

I remember watching his as a kid, and now watching it on Utube knowing the result I say to myself “ I hope he doesn’t miss” 😂😂😂😂👍

Magic, watched it live on tv back then , couldn't resist watching it all again, great stuff

As a street kid in Toronto we would go watch him play at the 24 pool hall on young street we'd run errands and such he'd always gave us big tips and buy us food and pay for a table for us to keep us out of trouble

I wouldn't say one of the greatest mainly because cliffs first shot he actually missed and was lucky he got a red potted by accident from the result. Kind of makes the whole break based on a fluke really compared to other 147s thag have been made

@@Michael-cz6ob It doesn't matter that his break started with a fluke. I was sixteen when I watched that match. It was the first 147 I'd ever seen, ever. It left a lasting memory 🙂🙂

That yellow remains one of the finest shots ever played.

Love the commentary from Rex Williams and Jack Karnehm.... Brings me back all these years.

The last two blacks and the yellow where great shots under pressure. I love that Bill W was watching from the other side and gave him a big bear hug at the end. Legend of the game and legendary moment, all from a fluked first red. Briliant

Amazing. Didn't stab the que on any shot, not even the last black. Pure class. Handled the pressure.

Cliff Thorburn a TRUE hardman who NO concessions to ANYONE, ANYWHERE....

I watched this at double-speed. It was like watching Jimmy White or Ronnie O'Sullivan.

That adrenaline rush cliff gets after the black ball pot. His whole body shivers with the high.

Wow .. i was smiling like an idiot the last 1 minute if the video. What a video and what amazing reactions.

Always wanted to see this, thanks. Great job Cliff. A noted Canadian from Toronto I believe.

Great break. Good to see that play on the other table was stopped so that Bill Werbeniuk and John Inman could watch the break.

knew of this break because it's often been mentioned in commentary over the years, but this is my first time seeing it and I ever would have guessed it started with a fluke!

First person to score 147 in a match actually got 151.

Not a great fan of Cliff, but the long-range stun run through on the final yellow was very good indeed. Probably the best stun run through ever.

Is it me or is there more floor space in the crucible back then? Dosnt seem as cramped. Going next year for the first time very excited

I feel the tension watching it, and I know he does a maximum! 😂

All the times I've seen them replay this on the TV during World championship tournaments I have never seen until now Cliff actually miss the first shot and accidently pot the red with a fluke plant

There are people that are saying 'I was there but I didnt see any of it because that damn dividing screen was in the way'

Fabulous break. It's a shame that the 4:3 frame has been stretched to 16:9, making it difficult to watch.

I've watched this frame many times but only just noticed the black roll off its spot into a hole in the cloth whenever its re-spotted. See at 40 in the break. Did they borrow a pub table?

I wonder if he was more happy with the first 147 or the huge payout for achieving it?

Not far off! They actually finished this match at 3:51am... it was the latest-ever finish for a match at the Crucible.

Studly achievement.

Rumour has it, Cliff and Terry are STILL playing that match. There are now skeletons amongst the crowd.

Highest break possible is 154,,,, if a player makes a foul and leaves his opponent a free ball and pots a colour ( the free ball) then the black, then he goes on to pot all fifteen reds with blacks and all the colours,,,,154. 🙂👍🏻

Interesting this first ever started with such an unbelievable fluke.

He didn't make that easy! rest 3 times, some long run through shots, all off a fluke.

I've been playing snooker for a few years and I can tell you that scoring 147 isn't so hard and quite common place nowadays.

The only ever match when you had enough time to put the kettle on between each shot...instead of each frame. ☕

Why did he used the spider instead of the normal rest at 8:00?

It wasn't the spider, it was the long rest, known as the half butt. The head of those long rests were that shape with 3 grooves back in those days.

Most boring break I've ever watched.

Dreadful man. Terrible to watch. Once I grew a full beard during a 7 ball break of his. This was excellent for the time, though.

Hardly like winning an Olympic gold medal is it?! This pool game's just a step up from Shove Ha'penny. Ridiculous.

As a boy I watched this, I was collecting my pension once it finished.
