    Evan, I love listening to you tell our great Wyoming historical stories, you are a great story teller and teacher! I could listen to you speak all day, please keep telling these stories!! Your stories are even better than the guns you feature here, and you know how much I love historical firearms. Thanks so much, Evan.

    I forgot to acknowledge that picture of the stagecoach was courtesy of the Old West Museum in Cheyenne. They have an amazing collection of horse-drawn vehicles and were kind enough to allow me to take this picture. If you come to Cheyenne, take time for a visit. It's on the Cheyenne Frontier Days grounds.

    I just picked up a used Cimarron 1866 carbine, in almost the exact same condition as that. Someone used it pretty hard in cowboy action shooting. And I think you touched on three Peckinpah film plots in this video. Great video as always...

    I used a Cimarron 1866 rifle when competing in cowboy action shooting. It was chambered in .45 Colt to match a pair of Ruger Vaqueros.

  • @wsmvolunteers8588

    @wsmvolunteers8588

    I did not. It is chambered in .44 Henry Flat, a rimfire cartridge first used in the 1860 Henry rifle. One can identify empty cases fired in either the 1866 or the Henry because both used dual firing pins that left two indentations on the rim of the cartridge. Some rimfire cartridges today, mostly .22 caliber, are head stamped with a capital H in recognition of the inventor Tyler Henry.

    @@NM-eb5ej Here's probably more than you want to know about the .44 Henry caliber. The Colt model of 1872, immediate predecessor of the Single Action Army/Peacemaker, was also chambered in .44 Henry. The Colt had a single firing pin so empty cartridges can be distinguished from those fired in a rifle. Cases showing both types of marks have been found at the Little Bighorn Battle site. There is no record of anyone in the Custer expedition with Winchesters, Henrys, or Colt M1872. So those firearms were used by the Native Americans.

    Can you imagine all the miserable looking selfies that would have been taken if people had cellphones on those long, bumpy, cramped stage coach rides? Probably would have hurt the business 😂.
