To all the upcoming creators out there, It took me 2 years to get my first 100 subscribers. But after those first 2 years I grew exponentially over the course of 10- 12 months. Today I am sitting at nearly 40k subs and would advise upcoming new creators to work hard, think positive and catch on to upcoming trends.

My channel has been on hiatus for over a month since my revenue dropped by 90% for no apparent reason. I no longer care if my channel is bound to fail. It's hard to deal with things that are out of our control. But that doesn't prevent me from continuing to create more content. I'm just taking time off to spend more time with my family.

I personally think the number one thing that kills a channel is using services that promise subscriber growth or more views (especially if you buy them). It’s a short term gain for a long term loss because it screws up your audience also watches section, you have a lot of inactive subscribers who aren’t watching your videos which screws you in the algorithm, and all it does in the long run is boost your ego.

You just have to stay hard working no matter what happens, but starting and growing your channel is definitely the toughest part, but the thing is that you need to give viewers the content they want to see, the content they can't live without. Same like business owners give people products they need in their life. Also you have to stay consistent (and you should also use a little bit of Famester to make everything a lot easier. For me, it feels like I am in control of everything and I don't need to worry about algorithms anymore). Good luck to everybody.

3:37 i have a friend who is a fitness guy and uploaded a progress video which a famous KZreadr picked up and shared on his channel. The result was he gained over 5k subscribers in one week. He then felt pressured to create more fitness content for his new subscribers. He did and lots of it, he got burned out. It showed in his videos his views went from over 50k to the low hundreds all the while still having those 5k plus subscribers. Long story short… he still has over 5k subs but hasn’t cracked 1k views in months. Thats proof that subs don’t matter. They can simply mute their notifications and check back with you at their leisure.

I may be a small channel and I may not have enough time to do what I love, but I love the content I make and put out there regardless of how well it does. Sure I'd love to grow my channel, sure I'd love to be monitized but at the end of the day I make the content because I love doing it and that's why I will keep going. Great video and advice for those who ever seem to doubt their channel and growth, I personally feel it's better to be happy with what you make rather than how popular it becomes.

The one major thing that truly kills a channel is KZread’s favoritism towards YT’s 100 biggest channels with their “rich get richer and famous, becomes more famous” programmed algorithm. Like seriously some dude with a creepy mustache who has over 200 million subscribers probably doesn’t need anymore help from the algorithm anymore since he has an audience. Yet that’s when the algorithm pushes their content the hardest. That seems completely backwards to me. Once a creator gets to say 50 million subscribers they shouldn’t get help from the algorithm anymore. But it definitely helps to be buddies with the KZread IT people who programs the algorithm. Definitely a lot of insider information being shared there.

I have found that being in a competitive niche like I am, the larger channels will always win, and most of my views come from non subscribers, with little engagement. Its frustrating when you feel a video that could be good ends up being a dud, but if you enjoy doing it then do it for yourself. Shorts have been more successful for me, and I get more views and subscribers that way. I honestly get more engagement on other platforms, I think KZread tries too hard to be TT, but they will never compete with them.

It can be heartbreaking when you put so much work and love into a video, and it doesn't do well. I've been blessed I've got certain people that love me, and comment everytime. I had given up and one subscriber told me he was missing my videos and that I needed to make more videos. Because of his encouragement I didn't give up. And even though it didn't get half the views I hoped it would get I still felt proud of my efforts.😊❤

I was having increasing success with bird shorts rising to 10K views for my best. I then added what I thought would be a series of shorts that I expected to do many times better and to my astonishment my views for everything collapsed to the lowest they have ever been and stayed there. What changed??? My best explanation is that on the day of the collapse I set all my shorts on my channel to only allow audio copying and videos to no copying at all. I seem to be slowly coming back from that experience but certainly makes one think.

Still disagree on the algorithm though... as a small creator you should definitely 'battle' the algorithm... if you're content is absolutely perfect for your audience but they don't get to see it it'll still result in no views.... and the algorithm being a good find-and-discover-algorithm is quite honestly a myth.... I used to just focus on my (target) audience and it got me nowhere, even worse my channel completely crashed one day... Now I focus on audience AND the algorithm and the channel is growing. Audience engagement has never been better! But every month or two the algorithm still all of a sudden decides "nah, don't like your channel" and I have to reinvent things to make the algorithm like me again.... even though i know my audience already liked what I was doing before (as likes, comments and subs confirmed). Happened again just two weeks ago... channel was growing, many shorts received thousands and thousands of views, audience engagement through the roof, and from one day to the next: near zero (and sometimes actually zero) impressions on everything I posted... So currently working hard on some changes by experimenting with new formats and see what works that still pleases my audience but which also 'pleases' the algorithm

Personally unless you are aiming to have a “short” channel. I think shorts are “killing” your channel. I have stopped making shorts and my channel began to explode on long form. To each their own, but check out your analytics and see what is the most effective videos and recreate those. Shorts are great for views & subscribers but it creates a false sense of success cause one short can get 5k views and the next one literally get 3. Then we get all butt hurt. Screw that. I haven’t made a short in months now.

@@MrThinkImPossible thanks for the advice! it is indeed something I have been thinking about a lot. However, with my long-form I currently just don't reach enough people... So I need shorts to grow. It's also relevant what your target audience is, my target audience is mainly teenage girls and young adults... They have more interest in short-form content and I can use that to get them to my long-form content. And it works for my channel (I think!). For most channels that combine long-form and shorts people watching shorts don't also watch long-form (and the other way around). However, on my channel quite a lot of people watch both the shorts AND the long-form content. I also see people clicking from my shorts to the long-form content. So, quite honestly, I don't think quiting shorts is a luxury I can afford for my channel... However, I could consider taking a break from shorts some time and see what happens... I'll think about it! Appreciate you taking the time for this.

That was brilliant. I really felt spoken to. But yeah, I have learned not to sweat it. For the first few months of my channel I forgot to ask people to like and subscribe. When I was reminded to do so I did it almost apologetically, and always at the end. I do usually explicitly say no-one should feel any obligation to like of subscribe. Ironically some people have done so just because of that. I have started inviting people to like and subscribe at the beginning but with the option to unlike and unsubscribe if they then don't like it. And I remind people of that at the end. I'm also big on expectation management. So doing one take unrehearsed is sort of part of the brand now. I do try to keep the filming and audio good though. Fundamentally though, I just enjoy making videos. Both the actual process of filming and editing; and also when the viewership engages in the comments. It's fun!

Consistency is my most difficult issue to deal with being that my content source is 2800 miles away from where I currently live, and my current day job swallows up the majority of my time. That said, knowing this going in to trying to build up my channel I knew and expected a slow and painful climb at least until I could move onto our property full time. I concentrate on learning and improving the process involved and occasionally a video will do far better than expected right after publication. So far it seems that people like videos with my dump truck in it better than any other, but the channel is about the entire homestead project as a whole and all of the projects that it entails from actual construction to equipment repair and operation. It's hard to resist the temptation to try and grow quickly by only making videos that seem to be the most popular for a faster growth, but once work to the dump truck runs out I can't help but think that most of the gains made by those videos would be lost since that isn't the core purpose of the channel. The subscribers that I have amassed so far seem to be very loyal and interested in seeing what happens when it happens which is working well for me. Second most difficult thing is making the videos engaging, every time I am up at the property I feel rushed to get a lot of work done and filming something so far makes all projects take a lot longer and that is hard to swallow. I either don't film projects because of it, or compromise and don't spend as much time trying to figure out the best angles and shots to make the chores and projects fun to watch. It'll all come together someday and hopefully will be a channel that a lot more people enjoy being a part of. The better something does, or works... the more excited I get and am willing to put more energy and time in to it.

And it feels like that it’s raising the bar of expectations to succeed on KZread, and everyone knows that high expectations can lead people to fail more likely. Hey @AloneRacecar, just keep one thing in mind: in this world, the faster you grow the shorter your lifespan. You got to stay at your own pace and don't let others' successes affect you. People love eating cakes, even though they're expensive. But can't live without staple food - that's for life. I hope you understand what I mean.

@@Mediocrity.Unleashed Oh yeah definitely 100% sometimes I do become concerned when I see someone get popular prematurely without knowing how to handle it. Other than that I appreciate the words of encouragement! ☺️
