It was actually well done. The pilot was tightly crafted. As a stand alone entity it had potential but they of course had to relate a female to the extension of some man.
Part of me liked the mystery of Mrs. Columbo. How much of her was reality and how much of her was a weapon used by Columbo himself. Seeing her on screen and actually giving her presence feels... odd honestly. Not bad, but it does kill that bit of mystery.

Not canon, it is not an official part of the Columbo universe. Even the creators of this "Mrs Columbo" halfway in the series killed the idea that she was Columbo's wife (which by the way is only heavily implied in the first episodes but never said explicitly). They even changed its name at some point, to "Katy Loves a Mystery".

In a much later episode, the one where some crazy lady tries to kill Columbo and his wife with poison, he reveals that his mother-in-law is in her early 80s at the time of the episode, which took place in 1990. He also reveals in a much earlier episode starring the late, great Suzanne Pleshette (of Bob Newhart Show fame) that his wife's niece got remarried fairly recently. So it's fair to say that Colombo's wife is likely around the same age as him, maybe only a few years younger.
No... she just isn't how I pictured Mrs Columbo.
@WillCWilson
11 ай бұрын
Yeah; isn't how I pictured her either; I always imagined Mrs. Columbo as a much older woman, around Peter Falk's age; I also imagined her having dark blonde hair as well; this actress looks way too young for me to believe she's Columbo's wife
Rene Auberjonouis and Kate Mulgrew in this are brilliant.
I enjoyed Mrs Columbo & I'm sorry that the series didn't catch on!!! It was fun to see Dog at home!!! 👍👍🙂
René Auberjonois aka Odo in Deep Space Nine and Kate Mulgrew aka Captain Janeway......Absolute legends showing their acting nouce here in the 70's!
Just realized the French instructor is the same actor who plays Odo in Star Trek ds9. And Kate Mulgrew would go on to play Captain Janeway in Voyager. Funny how they both met each other way before that.
"Computer, end program..." Wow, this was surreal...
It's good to see Odo and Janeway.

This was an attempt to capitalize off Columbo. Nobody involved with Columbo liked this idea. Audience didn’t like it either. They changed the name of the show multiple times and even named it to Kate Loves A Mystery. Maybe if they didn’t try to force a columbo spinoff, this show might have done well.
@robertlombardo8437

It did even worse halfway through when she supposedly *divorced* Columbo and they used that as the impetus to change the series name. I mean, seriously, what wife would divorce Lieutenant Columbo?

Imagine if Columbo solved a murder on the starship voyager as it cruised the stars with his wife as the captain of it. It could be a bit where he solves the murder on the cruise ship to Mexico, only updated to the 24th century.
@pierrelevasseur2701
Жыл бұрын
That would be weird. Best would be Tuvok, he's more like Columbo logically speaking than any other character. Didn't Tuvok investigate a murder on Voyager?
As a native french speaker that's one of the very rare time that I actually understand what they're saying when they're supposed to speak french in a US show or movie. 3:03 However, there's no "Simon says" in french, it's "Jacques has said".
This is just a short lived spinoff from the Columbo show when it originally cancelled in 1978 so it should not be considered part of it. I cannot really think of Kate Mulgrew as Mrs Columbo. I think of her as Captain Janeway of the starship Voyager. I recently saw an older version of her in the recent TV remake of the David Bowie 1976 classic sci-fi movie" The Man Who Fell To Earth".
Two great star trek actors, great duet
Okay, I did not know that Kate Mulgrew and Rene Auberjonois had appeared together before DS9. It's so weird to see them together like this. I didn't like Mrs. Columbo but it was due to the idea than her acting

No need to be overly polite about it, Mrs. Columbo was an obvious mistake lol. Who in Hollywood thought that this was a good idea?
To be honest it is a bit hard to imagine Kate Mulgrew as Columbo's wife as she is younger than him by 27 years. She could pass as his daughter though. When Columbo made his first appearance as in "Prescription Murder", she was a just young teenager of around 13 years old. Also the guy at just over 2 minutes into the clip reminds me of the shapeshifting security officer Lieutenant Odo in Startrek DS9.

This is so sad. For someone not in the show, it reeks of Columbo's cigar - and I miss that too much to really enjoy this.
