Not canon, it is not an official part of the Columbo universe. Even the creators of this "Mrs Columbo" halfway in the series killed the idea that she was Columbo's wife (which by the way is only heavily implied in the first episodes but never said explicitly). They even changed its name at some point, to "Katy Loves a Mystery".

In a much later episode, the one where some crazy lady tries to kill Columbo and his wife with poison, he reveals that his mother-in-law is in her early 80s at the time of the episode, which took place in 1990. He also reveals in a much earlier episode starring the late, great Suzanne Pleshette (of Bob Newhart Show fame) that his wife's niece got remarried fairly recently. So it's fair to say that Colombo's wife is likely around the same age as him, maybe only a few years younger.

To be honest it is a bit hard to imagine Kate Mulgrew as Columbo's wife as she is younger than him by 27 years. She could pass as his daughter though. When Columbo made his first appearance as in "Prescription Murder", she was a just young teenager of around 13 years old. Also the guy at just over 2 minutes into the clip reminds me of the shapeshifting security officer Lieutenant Odo in Startrek DS9.

This is so sad. For someone not in the show, it reeks of Columbo's cigar - and I miss that too much to really enjoy this. You know the 1st season faired so poorly, that she divorced Columbo (!) and reverted to her maiden name of Callahan. And Columbo is never mentioned again. Oh, and there is Columbo's dog. It's too much.

Ahhh the scene with the true star of both series, the one better than Mulgrew, and better that Falk, the silent master of the TV, that Basset Hound above all hounds Fang/Dog/WhiteFang (master of names as well!).

It's from the first episode of a short-lived series called "Mrs. Columbo", later titled "Kate Columbo", "Kate the Detective" and "Kate Loves a Mystery". It was so short lived because it was critically panned and because a lot of people involved with the original Columbo series [including Peter Falk himself] thought it was a horrible idea.

Oh, I don't know. Call me a Columbo purist of sorts, but I would rather imagine what Mrs. Columbo looked/acted like. I'm sure it was a good show, and I love Kate Mulgrew, but I'd rather his homelife remain a mystery. Just my opinion!

Only captain Janeway can also moonlight as Ms. Columbo and learn French along with all those Star Trek languages in the Delta Quadrant. Impressive

It's not suprising Rene and Kate were good in respective roles of Capt. Janeway (Voyager) and Constable Odo (DS9). Did anyone catch Rene as Publicity manager( happen dress in Drag) in 1970s movie, The Eyes of Stella Mars?
