Join us in a virtual tour of our sheep operation set up inside coveralls. We will be walking through the flock and taking a look at our set up for two lambing groups. We had a group lamb in March and are lambing now in the month of May.
May lambing group set up inside barn 1 has 17 lambing jugs. The week one group are all painted pink for easy identifying. We keep the ewe and newborn lambs in jugs for 24 hours. Then those born in a 24 hour period are pushed out of the jugs and relocated into a small holding pen all together to learn how to be in a group. 24 hours later, they will join the family pen week 1 group located on the south side of barn # 3.
Family pens are set up onto one full side of the 40' x 100' coverall. Total of 3 sides will be dedicated to house 3 groups of ewes with their lambs. This provides lots of space to group and have minimal pressures on accessing feed for all sizes of lambs. The families will stay together for an eight week period then weaned.
New challenge with this may lambing involves discovering a pregnant ewe that has pulled ligaments and she requires special care moving forward.
