Keep up the great work man! Love your vids as always. Will you ever make a video about Manuel Komnenos or emperor Justin? I know you must have a lot on your plate but I hope you consider making videos about them.

Great detail and quotes but not much about the actual seige itself !!

that's because... wait for it... there isn't much evidence about the siege itself aside from that it happened... much like a lot of events in this period there just isn't much documented. I don't know about you, but I'd much rather a factual telling of what we do know than someone fancifully making a bunch of shit up.

I haven’t ever heard of Theodore the Chalcedonian, as referenced in 10:14. I can’t find anything on a quick search. Was he a Roman turncoat? Who is he?

Unfortunately, I do not know. Being from Chalcedon, he probably was an Islamic convert and was employed by the Umayyads as an Egyptian official.

@@EasternRomanHistory I did end up finding something about him. Allegedly he was the head of the Chalcedonian community (not sure if he was the Melkite bishop) who courted the Islamic authorities to give him tax collection privileges. Our sources are Coptic and exclusively biased against him so it’s a bit unclear.

If Emperor Constans II did not die and actually moved his family to Syracuse, what will happened to Constantinople? Will the Arabs be able to take the city? Also, do you think the Abbasid Caliphate's policy of allowing the Roman Empire to exist as target for annual raiding can be used in the fictional series in nowadays? After all, such a thing has never been seen before.

I doubt the Byzantines would ever let Anatolia and Constantinople fall. Constans would be forced to return eventually since it was so necessary to their empire.

That is hard to say since it did not happen. I doubt they would take the city since they would still suffer from short supplies and disease no matter who was defending Constantinople. Yes, I certainly think that is would make for an interesting setting. Maybe something like Sharpe or Hornblower or Flashman, that type of action adventure story.

@@EasternRomanHistory Glad that you agreed with me on this! I watched and/or heard of some fantasy series and isekai anime with villainous protagonists and I found the idea of world domination to be not the best option in the long run. And to make it worse, I never see them suffered the fates that befallen upon the Umayyad Caliphate like at all. Andthat means they will never get to learn that world domination is not only impossible but also never learn that the balance of power is the most important matter here. This is what it is about here. The stories where the setting are all about preserving the balance of power and the current political climate in all ways possible. Also, is it okay to say that the time period when the Roman Empire and the Abbasid Caliphate coexisted with each other and the other powers such as Bulgaria and the Khazar Khaganate can be considered as the prototype of the Victorian Era?
