As an airbus fan, i dislike people calling others manufacturer's plane "dirty", or "bad", Boeing (and others) are doing very good plane and all these companies have passionated people who put their mind, guts, and hearts in building planes, they all deserve respect.

Very well said - us 'real aviators' don't disparage aircraft or their manufacturers. We appreciate them for the marvels they are, and understand that issues will arise with ANY modern complex highly integrated system, aircraft included.

Yeah, there are always People who say: "Wrong, Airbus is bad, and Boeing is the only!" (Only because it's Boeing; right?) They shouldn't think like that (I don't hate Boeing Fans, it's only what I see MANY Times at KZread

Guitar Heave n I think they are just defensive because another company has arisen to oppose Boeing dominance - they can't stand it. They don't even realize that just by defending Boeing so hard they are in effect acknowledging Boeing is in a real fight for sales from a rival with a proven record of great aircraft. Notice how quiet they got since the 787 grounding debacle? Nice wake up call for them - ALL new aircraft have issues, and ALL flying aircraft get issued airworthiness directives on a regular basis. And BOTH major aircraft types get flown into the ground by humans who get overwhelmed by automation, REGARDLESS of design philosophy.

but then they don't need to show it in airbus-videos

Competition is very good to the consumer, us, so Boeing or Airbus going out of business it would be very bad indeed for the consumer. The only reason they are so safe today is because of competition.
The most beautiful airliner built, am so proud if Airbus.
For me this is the most fascinating of the A350 test flight videos, showing what was happening inside including the interaction between the crew members - more please!!
Fantastic! Videos like this should be shown on board every flight so that passengers of the future can appreciate how much goes into ensuring their safety. These test pilots and test crew are the very best, brave and professional yet their humility is humbling to others. A great example of Anglo French and European cooperation.
Great crew banter, guys at the very top of their game. Make even the most high stress events appear to be just a routine drive round the park. Great video.
Airbus is kicking some major butt with their attractive and intelligently built A350. Carefully thought out, Safe, No fires, No cracks, and No wings made out of paper.
Well, it works.

Good to see the pilots are wearing a parachute..always wondered about that..

Why would you even have to ask. NO test flight is made without a parachute equipped crew.

teenagerinsac Is it really hard being you? are you one of those insecure that assume that everything obvious to you, must be to others also? The reason i "wondered" NOT "asked" was because it looked logical to have one, but it was never confirmed to me, ie, never seen it or was told. So my apologies to you for "Having to ask" or wonder in this case.:-) Sweet happy days:-)

What a beautiful work of art.
Thanks for this video! These are those moments in a life, where you remember where you were during their happening. I attended a meeting, but I managed to have an eye on a live stream - so with audio on mute I saw this moment of take-off live ;-)
Congrats Airbus, glad somebody's still keeping the design & engineering competition alive.
First flight videos are always amazing to watch; incredible to think that all the work up until that point has been based on computer simulation and wind tunnel testing; the aircraft flies only in the virtual world. The moment it takes flight in real life for the first time must be absolutely thrilling for everyone involved in its design and construction!
Awesome A350 flight video!
beautiful, just beautiful
Encore bravo la France !!! Vous avez les plus beaux avions qui soient dans le ciel tout autour de la planète !!!! Déjà que votre pays est splendide, les avions aussi ! Félicitations ! Steff au Canada.
I'm proud of being french only thanks to you ! You are the best and The A350XWB IS THE BEST ! Thank you to have posted this video which makes us live this awesome, amazing and epic moment : The first flight of the A350XWB ! LOVE YOU AIRBUS Felicitation Airbus et continuez ! Dans quelques années j'aurai l'occasion de voler dans un des Airbus A350 d'Air Caraibes et j'attend l'annee 2017 avec impatience ! Merci et bravo pour ce que vous êtes et ce que vous faites !
I challenge any of you to name an airplane that hasn't had its fair share of shakeout issues. Boeing and Airbus both are home to some of the finest engineers on the planet, making some of the most remarkable pieces of technology in human history. Competition is healthy - it's driving both of them to innovate and create cool new planes for us all to admire. The 787 and the 350, both, are welcome additions to the skies, if you ask me.
I am undoubtedly concerned about keeping US aerospace as successful as possible. After all, it is one of the few US industries that is moving along, and America is where I live. Yet, watching this video gives me great joy. Airbus is an international effort between nations without a common language. It demonstrates the best of humanity. It's also pretty cool seeing families, along the runway, watching the event. Oh, and the wing tip idea - that comes from my generation (born, 1965).
What a beautiful plane!
Wow! Look at these huge cockpit windows :D !
Beautiful moment
A350 so awesome!
Amazing video, and amazing airliner the A350. This appears to be much more refined than that other airliner, that I call the error plane.
As long as it takes you to point A to point B efficiently and safely, that is what matters.
In the floor of the cabin, behind the cockpit and in front of the wing leading edge and on the starboard side, is a hatch which leads via a chute to another hatch where the forward cargo door would normally be. In the event of an emergency where the a/c could not be recovered the hatches would be blown electronically and the crew would bail out. Both hatches (outlined in red & orange) can be seen in other A350 videos made before the first test flight.
I am thrilled !!
One of the best 5 minutes ever
I love first flights :)
All I could think of was: "Dorothy's flyin!! Baby she's flyin'!" xD
awesome I was waiting for this about for years you know. WOW... yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes
Fantastic
thank you, for submit
I love you XWB.
Super vidéo, et super avion, merci !
...on time LOL! I was about to search if the 350 is the 787's adversary but your comment gave me the answer. I just like planes, both do the job! ...on time LOL!!!
Great video and the test flight preparations and monitoring are almost NASA-like. As stated before here, lots of things can go wrong. Ground testing is usually at the component level. This is all components together. These guys are prepared for anything, and take nothing for granted. Usually prototypes at this stage have a few more exit ways for the crew than the production aircraft. Looks like a great good looking aircraft, with very smooth lines. Great Job!
It`s fantastic
Very impressive. The 350 is a good looking plane but I am still a Boeing fan at heart.
Très très bel avion et quelle fierté . Bravo et merci à toutes les personnes qui travaillent pour Airbus , Toutes .
How did you get the access to the cockpit views, this is fascinating, loved the humour and the video!
The French know how to build beautiful air planes. Keep your chin up France. Vive La France.

Why not? Europa and the rest of the world purchased Boeing aircraft for decades long before Airbus. Each provide excellent airplanes.

Wouldn't fly too well without British wings and engines.
The best video in the world
"Wow, it works." Hahahah! That was priceless.
In the floor of the a/c on the right hand side between the cockpit and wing leading edge is an inner hatch through which the crew can bail out in an emergency. If you look at the earlier video of the a/c emerging from the paint shop you can see the outer hatch outlined in red where the forward cargo hold would normally be. The hatches are blown electronically - in earlier test a/c pyrotechnics would have been used.
Omg Those men are such an inspiration for me ...
i wish i could love my job just like these guys
I love the a350
Très belle vidéo.Merci.Amitiés.Yvon
They are very lucky you spotted it i'm sure they will take your considerations into account.
muy bien me gusto mucho ese video nice
Makes sense...my instructors have just been drilling the following into my head: "positive rate --> gear up!"...so watching this, I was like, "wait for it...", and they never retracted the gear :)...then it occurred to me that this is a test flight.
I love airbus
One thing that most people seem to ignore is the fact that every Airbus has at least 20% American content by value. It is not purely a European aircraft-
EPIC .
Thanks...I myself am a Boeing fanboy, but hey that doesnt mean i have to hate airbus. I mean i stayed up till 9AM in the US watching that 5 hour livestream. And I think that Boeing and Airbus fans come together, when Tupolev is in the picture!
UNA SOLA PAROLA: GRANDISSIMI! :)
best aircraft eveeeeeeeeeeeeeeer :D
Gänsehaut pur
What are those round tanks and all the Screens in the fuselage for?
If the A350 is a 'copy' of the 787, then the 767 is a 'copy' of the A300. It is inevitable that advances in airfoil geometry will find their way into ALL manufacturers, from bizjets to large transports. Silly little fanbabies, grow up and stop hating, because neither Airbus nor Boeing can supply the demand for new aircraft alone.
"Wow, it works!"
Good Fly ...
jimmyrebel...this is purely speculation but one would assume they would have some sort of explosive bolts on the exits in case of something ridiculous happening...at any rate, good job airbus guys...well deserved celebration for yet another incredible european airliner
This is a Fantastic video, these pilots are heroes no doubt about that........ However, lets not forget the many test pilots that lost their life so that we today can just Jet off with our family on holiday! I now observe a minute of silence as I sit in front my computer..............
Perfect! I knew you'd get all the ones about flipping over. That's exactly what I wanted. These pilots had not had adequate crosswind training. Other than the flipping over, there isn't an MD-11 that gets lost, or catches fire (swissair 111 fire was not md-11 fault) or stalls. Plus I thought I'd tell you that the 737 ngx has had less fatalities than the Airbus 320 series.
There's an escape hatch on the right side just behind the cockpit, you can see at 3:27, although just for an instant
Airliners have traditionally been designed to be inherently stable but fbw has allowed some degree of 'relaxed' static stability, in order to increase efficiency by reducing drag. Of course 'relaxed stability' certainly doesn't mean 'unstable' or unsafe but I thought that, without fbw assistance, this relaxed stability should be noticeable.
To the best of my knowledge, since test planes are in fact untested, they leave the gear down for the entire first flight to ensure the plane is able to land with no trouble getting the gear to come down after being retracted for the first time. Make sure it can fly first you know?
Cool
I like to imagine that the US is composed not of people from almost every nation, but rather, every single nation.
Yes you're right I also think that a yoke is better than a sidestick. But we're not talking about if a company is good, or either their aircraft, the feeling you have by flying it, but just about the comfort of the cockpit. By the way are you Brazilian?
Pretty sure it would be just fine with 8. Airbus has optimized the landing gear for the A350. The -1000 version will have 12 (2x6). The -800 will have a smaller version of the 8.
i love how boeing and airbus both have planes that are quite similar. 747-A380, 777-A330(maybe A340), 757-A321, 767-A300, 737-A319 and 20(i think) and ofcourse 787-A350. Not sure where A318 would go
how would they get out of the plane to utilise their parachutes? is there a mechanism?
In case you ever need to leave the plane from what exit leave? Things that i d'not wish. Good flights.
It works :))
almost every aviation federation in the world has a requirement about that on either the maiden flight or a few flights after that.
Why wearing parachutes for those on board on the test flight where there is no drop chute for emergency bail-out should the flight become dynamically unstable?
The A350 has evolved from the A330 with elements from the A380. The design was already fairly mature by the time of the first flight so I would expect the a/c to perform like an advanced A330 on entry into service with fewer production quality control issues and greater reliability than the B787.
Don't call yourself a douche, you learn something everyday...here's another one: No one's perfect and knows everything. I learn things in aviation too :)
The film of this airport here : Toulouse-Blagnac, The Film
Nice Plane scary windscreen. Reminds me of the visor from the GORT robot from The day the earth stood still film. Think the 787 looks much better.
at 5:28 he says "it works!".
Extra aerodynamic stability in low speeds.
5:28 - "Wow, it works!"
airbus is moving extremly fast and is creating amazing new aircraft. So fast that the great old boeing cant catch up...the only problem with it is that planes will become less reliable and soon problems will come but for now... its time to enjoy!
Everyone knows that Airbus' cockpit are more comfortable than the others. No yoke -> more room, a retractable plate to write or eat. Cleaner panel interface and so on.
That was too funny!!!!
This is hilarious. Do these cats think that they're flying on Atlantis or Discovery?
title is the "takeoff", but 99% of the vid is the crew getting ready
No gear up? Any ideas why?
So is it because this was the first test flight that they didn't retract the gear? The gear stayed down quite a while after takeoff. ??
i do agree the a350 and 787 look similar but they have totally different plans. and dont forget that between aibus and boing they do copy some things from each other so plans arent the same although the plane looks exactly the same to the 787
Hello my Friends. What is the music of the 4:34 ? Thank You .
Proud of you Daddy
Let's hope so. Given that all the new aircraft that are completely new designs (A380, 787 and Sukhoi Superjet) have been experiencing some problem or other, the A350's basis on a proven design as you said should prove to be less problematic, similar to the 747-8.
Awesome smile at 5:12
I still believe that today, too much responsibility is put into analysing computers and letting the plane fly. Airbus must make sure this plane is safe and that pilots can do whatever they want.
