    My favorite part of this tv (42'' is basically tv size) is the custom heatsink. I don't care too much about the size of the back of the monitor as long as it doesn't dim the brightness constantly.

Do you notice any sacrifices on color and sharpness because of the matte finish? Do you find its brightness setting to be adequate for an OLED monitor during productivity use? Glossy finish looks better, matte kinda white wash the display but they said it helps reduced reflection. In my experience, glossy finish reflect brighter but smaller in size (I really don't know how to explain it, hopefully you get the idea), matte is diffused so dimmer reflection but it's making the glare diffused on the entire screen thus making the display less enjoyable to view. I prefer a dimmer or close to pitch black environmental lighting anyway so glossy is best for consuming content.

    I'm very excited about this monitor as it's the first one to check all the boxes for me. 4K, OLED, VRR, G-Sync, true HDR, >120Hz, fast response times. And I do prefer a matte coating for monitor-use. Yes colors and contrast might not pop as much if it's hit with light but it's a comfort feature, which for a monitor I use long periods at a time, I abosultely need to have. It gets you a uniform image over the entire screen without any distractions at all times. And there are many other benefits over somethng like an LG C2 (heatsink minimizing risk of burn-in, option to turn off automatic brightness limiter, sharp sub-pixel layout for text, Displayport, auto switching into stand-by when you turn off your PC...). Not quite sure about the size yet but coming from a 32" which I've been using very comfortably I feel like it could work for me.

    OLED is a minus. OLED gets too dim for a good HDR experience (mini-LED is much superior).

  • @vintatsh

    @vintatsh

    Жыл бұрын

    @@chiefjudge8456 Mini-LED does get much brighter, but you can‘t beat the precision and contrast of OLED. And I would argue if you watch any HDR content, or play an HDR game it‘s in a darker environment anyways where 800-1000 nits peak is enough. Full-field >1000 nits would blind you anyways, especially in front of a monitor.

  • @chiefjudge8456

    @chiefjudge8456

    Жыл бұрын

    @@vintatsh That's not how it works. 800 nits is never enough because HDR is supposed to have impressive highlights, it needs a wow factor to have any amount of realism at all. Since highlights are small areas of the screen, and sometimes time-limited, they need to be really bright to stand out. You're never going to full-screen at 1600 nits unless there's like a flash bang or you're staring at the sun, in which case you would avert your eyes which is the realism factor. It makes it like real-life (FYI the nits of real sunlight on a normal day outside is 4000-5000). On OLED you can stare at the sun or let people flash bang your face in "HDR" because the screens are just too dim.

  • @vintatsh

    @vintatsh

    @@chiefjudge8456 same thing can happen with mini-led. Imagine a night sky with stars, mini-led would either blow out the image around a single star so you get blooming or it would dim the area around it so you lose the highlights. More precision of OLEDs can create much brighter highlights. Neither technology is perfect, micro-led will be superior in every way and won't burn-in but it will be a long time-to-market. I guess for now it's just personal preference, I get where you're coming though.

    6:05. Matte screens still force you to control your environment. If they push over 600 nits, you don't really need matte screens in a controlled environment. I feel like monitor companies have produced 300 nit monitors for so long, they think matte screens are 100% required. For XSX and PS5 this is good, but realistically most console gamers use OLED TVs anyways from 50" upwards. If possible, i had a couple of suggestions for things to look at over the course of your full review: - What do resolutions other than 4k look like on the monitor (try playing a game in 1080/1440 and seeing what the monitor's scaling is like) - In the settings, what HDR options are available? Thanks!

    Im wondering if this would be more soothed for gaming AND productivity. Since it is a monitor, I assume it has PIP and PBP? Did you get the chance to test it out in a pc environment ? Splitting the screen into two desktops essentially?

    When looking at your LG monitor how would you compare the anti glare coatings? is the OLED still a clear image or does the anti glare make it look grainy / fuzzy? I just had to send a 240hz monitor back because the AG coating made the image super fuzzy.

    Really pleased to see you have got this and look forward to your review. I'm still rocking the 27GP950 which is good but it's no OLED. I didn't mind the size of the 42 C2 but it was just rubbish as a PC monitor so sold it and this is my next consideration.

  • @Phragzy

    @@sm7085 Aggressive ABL so screen would dim constantly. Didn't find it very bright in PC mode and due to the RGBW subpixel layout text was not very sharp compared to a standard monitor. Also as it's a TV it doesn't behave like a monitor so does not go to sleep when your PC sleeps. Would definitely avoid.

    Thanks for the video :) i'll check your full review. i'm hesitating between this monitor and the Samsung odyssey G7/G8 for my PS5. So which one do you think deliver a better gaming experience on the new gen consoles? The samsung have the mini-led and freesync technologie, but I don'"t think freesync makes a different, doest it ? as the PS5 does not currently support FreeSync, but support the VRR Also, did you try using the asus as a PC monitor for normal usage (work, navigating on internet) ? if yes, how was your experience ? Thanks in advance :)
