Holliday Grainger was fantastic in The Borgias. Glad to see her doing... something. Have to agree with basquat on Casey Affleck, though. He's one of the lesser contributions Hollywood nepotism has brought us.

+HitchensImmortal I loved Holliday Grainger in this and kept wondering why I haven't seen her before. I thought she was absolutely adorable and her relationship with Chris Pine's character was completely charming. I thought Casey Affleck did a really nice job on this movie. Maybe he's starting to come into his own?

Well, Christy Lemire, they are actually called Coast Guardsmen, which I think is surprisingly delightful.

Members of the Coast Guard are called Coast Guards.

+Tal Moore Thank you for pointing that out. I was about to do the same but I didn't want to repeat it. "The Coast Guard guy", how idiotic. Instead he should have said "A Coast Guard".

3:40 I remember her from _The Borgias_ - that HBO show that got canceled...Jeremy Irons was the Pope. But she was great in it.

The fact that Bernie Webber's "Fiance" even made it into this move in the first place was ridiculous. If you read the book you'll find out that Bernie and Miriam were already married at the time of the rescue. Not only that, but she was in bed with the flu during the rescue as well. Which helps clear up the mystery as to why they couldn't find a creative way to put her in this movie. Having her in the movie greatly detracted from the most incredible part of the story which is the rescue. Read the book!

In the beginning of the review, Christy Lemire says that the rescue team is made up of three Coast Guard men and one "Navy guy". Obviously she doesn't know that Coast Guard and Navy guys wear the same dress uniform. Coast Guard sailors wear a small symbol device on their sleeve which indicates they are Coast Guard, not Navy. If she knew what to look for, she would see it there. Fortunately, somebody costuming this movie did their homework - which she obviously didn't.

If you haven't seen this movie, spoilers in this review star about 5:50 in a mild form, and then Ben gives away the entire ending. So, don't watch if you haven't seen.

This movie gives me the feel of a Black Hawk Down style affair, where everything is being done to make what should have been a giant mistake look totally cool. Like the review from our 3 / 4 players here, AND YOU GUYS OWE CHRISTY FOR LEAVING HER WITH, "THE FIFTH WAVE." Suffering through Bad Grandpa or whatevr that crap with Efron was, is not enough.

Yeah Eric Bana can't do an American accent let alone a southern accent. I liked the movie but I agree that they weren't cold enough visibly and it didn't explain how they magically did these things.

Ben's so funny! Anyway, I saw this thing today, for lack of anything better that I hadn't seen being out there. The cold thing they mention? Very noticeable. Downright strange. They go underwater several times in that boat in a storm in February, and they seem basically okay. Just wet. The rest of it is sorta like Ben said. Not edgy, but serviceable because of the good cast. I have one big complaint though. I saw it in 3D, and I'm tellin' ya, it was a total waste of money. I think it would be great of WTF gave a mention as to whether a movie's 3D is effective or not, (if the movie has a 3D release). I think it would be helpful. There was absolutely nothing that benefitted from the 3D in this movie. Not even the big action stuff at sea. I'm 50/50 on 3D in general. If it helps, I'm fine with it. If not, I get a little annoyed. Basically, I don't have anything against 3D. Maybe you guys good give us all a heads up if you screen it in 3D? If I'm already making a trade of on a films brightness in order to accommodate a 3D presentation, I'd like to know whether the trade off is worth it. I really wish I had seen this movie in 2D, but it wasn't good enough to see again.

Really smart outfit by Christy.

+felicityhappy919 I think it was better than the other water disaster movies--I was actually thinking about White Squall. Those are more disaster movies and this is more of a rescue movie if that makes sense. Those movies try to get to you with gimmicky drama and this doesn't do the same. I really enjoyed it.

I know that for some reason directors would rather cast British or Australian actors and have them do an accent but why couldn't American actors have done this? Affleck sounds so much better than the others. It's distracting.

Bring Dave back. :>

Casey Affleck is just the most boring actor in history. His face, voice, his complete lack of energy is just the ultimate sleeping pill.

+jimbo g Funny you say that--after the movie I was thinking that this type of film generally does come off as propaganda for whatever military branch it's about. But, that wasn't the case at all for this movie. It could be because they barely mention the US Coast Guard and since they're drenched in water so much they aren't wearing recognizable uniforms.

I have no interest in watching this film, I have come here just to hear Christy's amazing one liners.
