I always underestimate how much those 2% changes matter, I'm so glad this series exist and you summarizing and explaining what the patches affected helps me understand these things more

It's kind of sad how uninteresting most of the buffs were. Some of the stuff like Tri-Slosher barely having any dead zones left and Splatlings accuracy buffs were neat and 5.1 made me co-main Luna (until 5.2 killed Baller) but my favorite part of each patch was seeing what got blessed by Nogami and although almost no buff was a negative change (looking at you Splattershot ink efficiency buff) almost nothing was worth being excited over. You could make the argument that the most exciting buff was the Shellendorf Institute one.

a few weapons got crazy mid-game buffs though. goo tuber, undercover and squiffer all got entirely new mechanics.

Absolutely loved this series. It’s crazy to think how much the meta evolved for better or for worst. I started playing Splatoon 2 around 2.0, and can say that the 3.0 era was my favorite. 5.0 era made me sad given how unique this game is with different weapon classes (buckets, Brellas, splatling) but for the most part get outclassed by shooters.

This game is well balanced. There's a lot of weapons that are viable. The problem with the game for me is that the main weapons are kinda weak so it's difficult to punish overextensions or take space despite having advantage and the maps are small so there no space to move or rotate based on enemy positions. What this mean, is you're forced to push with specials, which is fine, except the specials in the game are stuff like armor and missiles, which are simple and have no depth or skill expression. And in the case of missiles and stingray, they actively discourage interaction. Which is why the game is kinda stale for me rn.

Sigh . . . I remember 5.2 . . . Ballpoint Nouveau and Tenta Sorrella/Camo brellas, my beloveds. (Though it didn't hurt my Tent as much as Ballpoint, given I run 2 main saver mains on all my tents. Yes, I know that's extreme, I don't care).

Man I’m so excited for Splatoon 3 just to experience another patch cycle Whether or not it ends off in a good position it’s still just exciting to see the game evolve and shift

I remember I used to absolutely adore the brella as a weapon class because of how fun it was to use. But now that it's most commonly a 3 shot the fast paced nature of the brella seems to be relatively harder to get so imo it leaves the weapon feeling a bit unreliable.

Thanks for making this series. It was really interesting to look back at how the meta evolved especially as someone who lived through it all. Really helps to put all the whacky things into perspective.

I started playing in the 5.0,s and my main sticker with the meta first schelchurs then kensa splatter shot and now splash neo

honestly cant wait to be given a crash course on the meta of splatoon 3 after it comes out aswell!

Ngl I was so thankful for the fall of the ballpoint. I've always been TERRIBLE at fighting splatlings (as squiffer, bamboo) because of their weird walking speed while firing, not to mention how the nouveau's beakons had me weeping when I got put on teams that still didn't know what beakons were. I kinda miss it in the shooter meta of today, but I still get proud when I successfully splat a ballpoint.

@@semidecent4395 I don't think ballpoint was particularly more OP than any other top tier weapon has been so far, but it just happened to counter my own playstyle so perfectly. 💦

Baller was still prevalent until patch 5.4. I remember baller being much harder to break when I first started playing (December 2021). I would use it but I never do anymore, because I main Splashdown and Ultra Stamp weapons now (mainly clear dapples, sploosh 7, and kensa octobrush)

10:37 i will never forgive nintendo for their sins, especially that bullet hitbox nerf, it didn't seem like much but i really felt that difference especially when the weapon's rng is already ass in standard fire

Annnnnnd this was around where my usage rate of Splatoon 2 died. They really did not need to nerf Ballpoint that many damn times.

Any idea as to how I sometimes find players with vanilla Squiffers that appear to instantly recharge the shot after firing?

I definitely can’t there are no more updates for Splatoon 2. But trust me, Splatoon 3 looks hell of a lot better than Splatoon 2

I would say the current Splatoon meta as of right before splat 3 consists of Clear dapple dualies, and other strong fast kill shooters with high ink rate, as well as Aerospray pg

I now use flingza since splatoon 2 and rarely Play anything Else and it was Fanny watching the weapons changing in the battles after a update. Always following the Meta isnt that helpfull. Im not forced to switch the weapon because it got overused no I can Keep my flingza and dont have to change anything and can perfect my gameplay and now i became extremly good With the flingza
