Oh, the terminus decree might be the last stitch effort to create a new emperor by sacrificing all of the grey knights at once. This is my running theory on what could be done. He can reassemble himself in the warp and come right back now that the eye of terror exists. Considering he’s a perpetual, he may just be suspended instead of allowing him to heal.

It basically means "end" or "transition" or "boundary"... not just in the sense of death, but _also_ in the sense of "railroad terminal" or "national border" or "transition from power source A to power source B" or even "execute the prisoner". Technically it could even be "what to do if the Emperor fully restores himself", because that could _also_ be considered a termination condition, though the conditions which are ascribed to it's use don't seem suggestive of that.

One thing I have noticed usually forgotten by people in regards to the Emperor was killed and returned as a perpetual is the fact that, at this point, would most likely be irrevocably insane. Vulkan, in the book Unremembered Empire, has a similar fate befall him after being tortured for months by Konrad Curze, then spending at least a year in the warp before teleporting into the upper atmosphere of Ultramar. The Emperor, grievously wounded by Horus onto near death, has suffered not only the pain of his wounds and the slow decay of his body but the psychic agony of the golden throne for over TEN THOUSAND years. At death, chances are even if he was reborn immediately he would be in no shape to rule or even function.

Well, the Emperor is made of sterner stuff. The Primarchs are to the Emperor as a candle flame is to a super nova, at least when it comes to willpower. If all else fails, I wouldn't be surprised that the Emperor could just will himself to forget everything for the last 10 thousand years upon his death.

I think it would be both a method of resurrection and the last resort combined. The entirety of Terra including the probably breached warp tear are burned clean, giving the Manperor more time to resurrect. Since he's in the throne mainly to keep the terra from becoming the "eye of Terra" see what I did there... once the planet is lost there is no reason to stay on the throne anymore.

Yeah, but the Imperium would also lose the Guiding light of the Astronomicon which in turn would lead to every World being on its own again and most fleets still in the Warp or somewhere between Systems will be near completely lost. The only thing that would be able to take its place is in the Ultramarines Sector, it is still broken thou (as much as i know).

@El Duderino : I haven't dug deep, but my impression is that the _project_ started way back when, but the actual _marines_ are almost entirely of relatively fresh vintage, as most of the time was spent on development work. Cawl might _seem_ impressive, but he's no Emperor.

What if... it's the original ritual that made the Emperor? The Grey knights are all powerful psykers. what if they ALL commit the ritual sacrifice to all be reborn into a new form, a new god. What kind of Emperor would they become?

It's worth noting that the Emperor did that during one of the last periods of time where it was realistic even for him to do so. I think it more likely that a modified version would be used to strengthen the Emperor than for it to be done from scratch (and he _has_ been accumulating human souls for quite some time at this point...).

My theory is that the Emperor is secretly planning to use HIS OWN death as a bait to seal the chaos gods in the broken webway window on terra. Basically he is waiting the death of the traitor primarchs so he can die without leaving unfinished business behind and resurrect while using the psychic power of the imperium to "push" the chaos gods in the webway and seal them in there, since they can't be destroyed, and make the warp perfectly usable again

If the empirium ever got to the point where they could test the theory of the emperor being a perpetual, it would be horrible indeed, as it would mean that the emperor's death wouldn't have much of an impact anymore as that would be the only time, when even failure of the theory wouldn't change much about the situation.

There needs to be more works vs. Chaos and winning because they are resilient against corruption.

The Terminus decree is another example of the contradictory legends of the Imperium. Just like the "Return" of Corax and Vulcan. If the literal galaxy ripping in half didn't call for any of these to happen, what will? And why have Titan hold a bunch of trash that they never use? Let alone even know what it is? I thought the shadow vaults under the Golden Throne were where they were supposed to keep all the oogy boogy bullshit they couldn't use "Cause Chaos".

I believe most of the stuff under the palace is there because "it just won't _die",_ rather than any potential utility.

1. Kills the Emperor for future resurrection 2. Purge Holy Terra while the warp is consumming it 3. Terra becomes the Imperium's Jerusalem, as the holy fire protects it from becoming some kind of daemon world in the warp. Crusades are launched to take it back, Chaos sits proudly on it. You could even have Abaddon sitting on the charred vestiges of the Golden Throne 4. Mars Being Destroyed, Cawl being somewhere else, take control of the Mechanicum 5. One day the Emperor comes back and-or Guilliman becomes His avatar and starts building a new astronomican in the 500 worlds (or repair the Pharos) and rebuild the Imperium against a complascent chaos forces that considers itself victorious.

I feel like the Emperor's situation on the throne stuck and unable to use his perpetual healing to die and recover; Just like God in Dogma. Horus hit him with one hell of a hockey stick

Well, they were a thing… kind of… in 1st and 2nd edition, and definitely were in The All Guardsmen Party

As Sol burns under the final Black Crusade, several Grey Knights open the book and find a Map. Following it, they arrive at the Golden Throne at the 11th hour. Just as Abbadon is approaching the Emperor, said Grey Knights find a big red button forged by Vulkan with the word “YEET” on it.

I was thinking it was a decree to slay the Emperor upon the throne in the hopes that he would regenerate, only to be used as a last effort given the possibility that he may not. But then I'm thinking it was the final theory to basically ignite all of Terra. But now I got to thinking... what if it is intended to do both. not only cleanse Terra of her enemies but also that the holy flame and power of the Golden Throne would restore the Emperor or even help him ascend to true Godhood !

A very extremely awesome video as always 40k Theories.

What if the Terminus is a way to to overload The Golden Throne and, by extension, the Emperors psychic might to "seal" real space from the warp. Humanity would be safe from the predators of the warp, but cut off from one another. Perhaps The Emperor intended to use this once he completed the human web way project, but now it's a final option to keep Chaos at bay?

A deadman switch does not require outside intervention, the whole purpose of one is to activate in the absence of outside forces. A deadman switch can be something as simple as a button that needs to be pressed once a day, if not pressed it activates ie activated by a Dead Man.

My guess is if it involves the use of all Grey Knights and their sacrifice, its to resurrect Malcador. In a similar fashion to the way The Emperor was created.

If all hope is lost, slay the Emperor and free him from the Golden Throne. Even if he doesn't regenerate, at least his suffering will be at an end and he can finally rest. If all hope is lost and humanity is at the brink of annihilation.. BATHE THE GALAXY IN PSYCHIC FIRE AND TAKE IT ALL TO THE GRAVE WITH US. I can totally see the Imperium doing either one.

I don't think it would a physical destruction of Terra but more of a pyschic one whereby, in the event of Terra being overrun, the Terminus Decree would be activated killing all on Terra for their pyschic essence in order to resurrect The Emperor.

Theory question: is it possible that the Imperium sees the Black Crusades in different chronological order from the traitor legions living inside the Eye of Terror? Time is supposedly different within the warp, able to flow backwards and forwards and also stand still from what I have heard.

I think the terminus decree is a combination of all above. Following the emperor's history and how he became the emperor (i.e. 300 shamans dying at once to fuse together), it does stand to reason, if the GK have the purity of the emperor himself, then they will do the exact same thing to rejuvenate him. So the emperor does die, and the star child theory becomes a reality, as the GK's essentially restore the emperor as the star father (while they die), who is now the star child, the emperor reborn.

Good video 40k theories, but I think great video would be which PRIMARCH was told that the warp exists. Malcador told the khan, dorn, and sanguinus during the second book of the seige of terra, so who could it be? I also feel we can also eliminate both gulliman , horus, and logar.

The one thing that would cause the Grey Knights to follow the decree is, if Taco Friday is no more.

Important question, do the instructions for the Terminus Decree say that it is only to be used when all hope *seems* lost, or when all hope *is* lost? Because those are two very different things and it could help clarify just what it might do. If it is only for when all hope *is* lost then it's most likely a giant middle finger/flipping the table action, whereas if it is when hope *seems* lost it could be something of a one time use stall.

It would be a hoot if the parchment is so old the instructions are faded and unreadable. Holy fire might not kill everybody, only the Chaos-corrupted ones.

I always thought that the emperor could reincarnate were he not imprisoned upon the throne, and that putting him into that machine was to some degree a plot of the chaos gods to prevent his hugely powerful soul from reincarnating (which presumably his soul is already a product of).

Given the possibility that everything that has happened is part of the Emperor's plan, the Decree might the method to sacrifice the Emperor to cause a big event. Possibilities would be that Old Golden Bollocks becomes a greater God (which would justify him saying he wasn't a God) that could close the Warp tear and maybe even calm the Warp. Other possible outcome would be (assuming it was a last resort and the Imperium was losing hard) that the Emperor sacrifices himself to close that Warp tear on Terra and create a series of replacements. Every Soul on Terra becoming Emperor like beings.

clearly the terminus decree is instructions to turn off guilliman's life support. as he's currently walking about, they may have to get interpretive with the definition of turning off his 'life support'

I'd say that it would at the very least shut down the Golden Throne/Astronomicon. Which would probably kill the Emperor and leave any in warp travel adrift. Probably also a big shockwave - and likely the closing of the warp rift. The shockwave from such a collapse would spread to anywhere within reach of the light of the astronomicon with varying degrees of intensity based on range and intervening anomalies. That to me is why the other symbol is on the Throne itself. It isn't about the Emperor - but maybe about also what Vulkan made. This might be the other part of that - as in the protocol for turning off this giant machine. I can imagine the Grey Knights might have to sacrifice the whole chapter to do it - maybe even fighting the Custodes just long enough to carry it out. If anyone could - it would be the GN. I can't imagine they would simply stand aside.

Has the emperor ever experimented with chronotech? The emperor creating a bomb that weaponizes paradox would be utterly terrifying. Literally anything could happen. If you have no other chance... Worth a shot right?

Reminds me of the God Emperor of Dune, where to save humanity he had to cut off their ability to travel using spice/warp. It seems to me like this will somehow shut warp tears, killing THE EMPRAH in the process and rendering warp travel impossible.

The prophecy sounds an awful lot like it's referring to the tyranids coming to Terra that the Terran genestealer cult mentioned in the Custodies codex was suggesting would happen, especially since blood angels seem to be linked to Tyranids ever since the Devastation of Baal.

The Emperor incorporating a massive planet killing Self-Destruct mechanism would fit with the spiteful sociopath that the Emperor truly is though

Might be the location and awakening instructions for the emperor’s angel, doom or salvation fits its MO

It is part of the Emperors "God Bomb"; the entirety of the Grey Knights order sacrificed, like Malcador, to empower...oh your covering it now. XD

The Terminus Decree states that "In the event that any of the naked Custodians touch me again, you are to feed all three of them to the Warp-corrupted Tyranid in my basement, then destroy my body"

I only got a glance at the document but it was definitely the most destructive incantation in the world. The bit I saw said "Ain't no strangers to love, You know the rules and so do I..." 😉 😁

It’s the emperors resets button. On the instructions inside is written “in case of treachery, push button to restart empire”

Going with a combined kill switch/revive the Emp option. What if the decree sacrificed all or part of the Grey Knights to revive the Emperor. The emperor was born of a bunch of powerful psykers, and the Grey Knights are all relatively powerful and incorruptible psykers. So I could see that being the Emperor's/Malacador's contingency plan to save the Imperium.

Rem asks what do I think... In this particular case, I would rather not think at all.

Real talk, It's a kill switch to the source of the warp.

That would be consistent with the suggestion of "Death Sentence", yes.

Speculation: What if the terminus decree is a set of instructions to utilize a hypothetical secret function of the Astronomicon and transform it from a psychic beacon into a psychic weapon. Furthermore, at humanity's greatest need, the astronomicon would be used to target not merely the enemies of mankind, but all soul-bearing life in the galaxy, including humans, wiping them all out. Also the Emperor's semi-abandoned webway project would assure that this destructive wave of psychic energy would be channeled into the depths of the webway, as well, taking out Commorragh and other hidden enclaves. Why? To deprive the galaxy of souls and cripple the Chaos gods forever, making one last defiant strike against the ruinous powers before the galaxy is wiped clean. The major hole in this theory is that the Necrons would basically take over at that point.

Needs all Grey Knights to power it, and connected to the Emperor could mean either the Knights power the Golden Throne for a resurrection/annihilation, or the reverse where the Emperor's power flows into each Knight in one final act of vengeance.

Pious isn’t dead he’s just farming. Interesting though overall but I’m guessing that the regeneration of the emperor would be pretty damn fast. If it is slow then the grey knights might be able to help speed it up with their psychic powers

Oh, the terminus decree might be the last stitch effort to create a new emperor by sacrificing all of the grey knights at once. Them all being incorruptible super powerful psychers would make it very possible to make a semi emperor esk place holder. That actually be really fucking cool if that’s what it was!

What if the Terminus Decree was something akin to Martyrdom of the whole Grey Knight's chapter to res Big E, since they hold a portion of his Geneseed don't they? Maybe only when the Knights themselves can no longer fight they're to terminate themselves entirely to bring back the Big E.

But if they activate the 7 hammers wont that kill the emperor anyway. So if he dies the rift is opened and this flame emanates from the throne, wont it just lay waste to everything. Maybe even closing the rift because nothing in the area will be present to give the rift energy to stay open.

Ok, let's imagine it. Terra is at the brink of falling to Chaos, Imperial Palace is under siege(again) and the planet tself is blockaded by chaos armada. Grey knights open the box and see that it's indeed "activate the dead man's switch something something seven hammers something something purifying flame". Now the question is how do they get into the Palace from Titan, without being shot to pieces on their way across the Solar System?

I believe part of the answer is In the book Saturnine (prisoner) the other one could be what Vulkan created.

It's probably the last piece of a ctan or an old one god. Gold dad is basically a demon, he stole power from the warp. There's no way he didn't make some kind of bargain with something.

I would of assumed the terminus decree would be something psychic, like all the GK's would channel their energy together and form one giant raging eternity boner for the emperor which they can use to smite all of chaos with in one definitive strike. But in doing so, while all of chaos might be royally buggered the GK's and maybe ever other psychicly awake entity might suffer to some degree as a result of the psychic "Purge". It has to be some kind of last ditch ace up the sleeve like "fuck it if we can't have it then you definately fucking can't" and it just fucks shit up on a scale never seen before.
