@@lorib9820 It still can. The MLB has precedents for reversing infield decisions like the George Brett Pine Tar Game or Haddix retroactive no-hitter. This perfect game should count, I’m sure we can reverse that decision. It’s a matter of integrity for the sport and it’s biggest personnal achievement.

And aside from that ending, and as brutal of a career Humber had, the 1st 8 innings of his perfecto were anything but. The first 3 ball count he had all day was when he started 3-0 on the leadoff man in the 9th, who he came back to strike out. The 2nd 3-ball count was on the final batter. And he didn't need any spectacular plays to save him. Every out was a strikeout or an easy play for the defense.

All credit to the pitchers, but perfect games are truly team achievements. Not only does the pitcher have to be perfect, but the defense behind him can't let him down by committing an error or otherwise botching a routine play. And often times there's at least one spectacular defensive play that saves the perfecto.

The Randy Johnson call, “He faced 27 men. He got ‘em all out” is the simplest yet best and most precise description of this incredible feat. When someone inevitably asks what a perfect game is and “is that like a no hitter?” this is the best way to describe it.
