Context:
Nintendo Network (the online services for 3DS and Wii U) shut down April 8th, 2024 at 7PM. Some people were randomly kicked off the servers at some point after that time, and no one else would be able to log in or start new matches.
Different games kicked people off at different times, but for Splatoon, if you continued playing with the same people without restarting the game, you'd be able to stay on the servers.
I managed to stay on the servers until a couple minutes after 9PM (which was a time that the maps were rotated before now) and this was the final match I was able to play before being forced off the servers.
I'll be making a follow up to this video as well, so stay tuned!

By the way, I'm aware a couple people were able to stay on the servers after the rotation. Kudos to them, honestly, not sure how they pulled that off lol

It is a terrible year for splatoon… splatoon 1 gets shut down, and splatoon 3 is nearing it’s end of support.
why tf does the music at the end make me want to cry??? Like the friends menu music has no right sounding that sad
Imagine if they had one last news report before killing everything off, and Callie and Marie talked about the shutdown. That would've been glorious.
I already miss it. My first ever true Online Game Experience was Splatoon. I sadly didn’t have a Nintendo Network Account till after Splatfests were done, but I loved online ever since Fall 2016. I hope that everyone else loves this game as much as I do, and that we can all play it again together someday! Thank You Nintendo for making such an amazing game and community!
Some people still got to play for another rotation, the maps were Urchin Underpass and Piranha Pit for Regular Battle, and Arowana Mall and Ancho-V Games for Tower Control.
I made it a little past 4 hours beyond shutdown in ranked before I had to go to bed. Farewell for now Splatoon 1. I'll be back with Pretendo. ❤
For some reason, I was able to watch the news and play next rotation Tower Control on Ancho-V-Games and Arowana Mall for 2 more hours. In Dude's lobby as well

No one killing eachother in the final minutes kinda reminds me of when a few people managed to keep playing halo 2 matches for weeks after the servers went down.

I played both Splatoon and New Leaf while waiting for the shut downs. I cried when it was over
That day, the inklings decided to use their weapons for a different purpose. They played with them as if they were toys, like children, recalling the memories of their youth, as there would never be another moment quite like this one. Truly wonderful.
Y’know, I remember the time I saw the first commercial of splatoon, the iconic “your a kid now, your a squid now” one, although I never played the first splatoon, it’s still quite a surprise to know nintendo discontinued the Wii U and 3Ds multiplayer servers…
