    I won't deny this manga really made me care about the characters, and I loved the Elf girl. You said she helped carry the story a lot and I couldn't agree more. But the sad part is it's like one of those "one piece" that will continue for a long while. There is an online novel and read some of it, its okay so far but there will be parts I read that will drag on or be like an anime couple who are always shy with each other.

    Isekai IS a good genre. Books like Mushoku tensei (novel and anime forget the manga) another case of a great isekai. It's just easy to make it trash, but when isekai hits, it hits hard with a load of potential. Let me make a list of my favorites (I haven't read this one yet) •Ascendance of a Bookworm •Jobless Reincarnation •The Faraway Paladin •The Death Mage Who doesn't want a 4th time. • I was Caught up in a hero summoning but the world is at peace •Valhallian The Black Iron (only an isekai on severe technicality but I never get to talk about it) •Eminence in shadow (funny and just pretty cool) •The Saga of Tanya the Evil •Record of Wortenia war •Drifters •isekai Ojisan •Grimgar of Fantasy and ash Some of these are funny, some are touching, some are just awesome. But isekai is a genre that has the most potential, and like things with potential often do, it gets squandered by most people. But those that use it well, make some of my favorite stories.

    It’s sad that this really long name thing caught on as it makes differentiating your product really hard even when it’s off high quality so I mainly stick to sites the post novels which are mainly produced by western authors like Royal Roads where you’ll find way less novels with stupidly long names. Like “That time I went to Walmart and fell into a fridge and became the hero to get OP skills!” it’s just to long and undigestible to read while not standing out from the thousand other similarly named novels. You could cut the novels make,e down so easily e.g. The Exile, 100 lives, Exiled to Eternity, Rewrite or any other simple name that can give a reader some idea what’s happening if there interested for more info there’s a reason blurbs exist.

    Tbh, about half of the “kicked out of hero’s party” are like that. What’s more refreshing is it broke away from the usual generic formula for this kind of story: 1. Mc gets kicked out for hero’s selfish reasons (hates mc for no reason / wants to replace mc with a girl for harem reasons / somehow thinks the mc does nothing and is leeching off them / etc) 2. The mc is “secretly” op and has been carrying the entire party (or sometimes guild) 3. The mc goes on their own adventure (likely forming a harem along the way - or atleast 1 love interest) 4. B story of the party falling apart because they somehow never noticed the mc was responsible for literally everything except hitting things (or that they were never strong and were getting boosted by mc) may also include them attempting petty revenge against the mc. Instead, the mc was kicked out for a legitimate reason. He presented himself as weak with the intention to be kicked out. There were no grudges and the hero’s party weren’t just being evil/stupid. The 100th group even apologized and tried to welcome him back when they realized he wasn’t as weak/helpless as they thought he was. What always got me is the supposed “hero” always being so petty and vindictive in every generic “kicked out of the hero’s party” manga. Who picked this guy to be the hero when he can’t handle enough responsibility to be trusted with a spoon? Much less the title of hero, the country’s treasured holy sword, and the job of defeating the demon lord.

    Old isekai manga/LN/anime have the goal to go back to original world because there's people who love the MC and want them back. Like Idaten Jump and MAR. Which is also had the villain pull the "I am your father" card.

  • @asmodeusguys4472

    @asmodeusguys4472

    I may just be dumb, but does MAR even count as Isekai? Despite the quality of the isekai, whether it's good ( re zero) or bad ( insert any isekai that's bad, there's a lot of those), those stories have this feeling that is unique only to other isekai stories. Like, even tho re zero is a deconstruction ( this can be debated, so whatever you believe of it) it still has the vibe of a regular isekai, with how characters act, how the world looks on a surface lvl, the edginess, the types of species, elfs, orcs, slavery type shit thats all done in a similar way, similar magic system, whereas MAR just feels like a portal fantasy story with shounen style ingredients, tropes. This is also similar to fushigi yugi, a portal fantasy story that has shoujo tropes. I'm of the opinion that if your character dies, gets killed, is automatically sent to another world without a clear explanation, is reincarnated to another world, has op magic abilities, and just ultimately ends up staying in that world, with no chance of ever going back, if it hits any, not all of these points, then it's an isekai. A common theme among isekai is that no matter the quality, besides all those other similarities I just listed, is the fact that the MC is usually always a stand in for the audience. Most of the time, they're just a blank slate so the audience can just attach themselves to them, so because of that they never really progress unless they get more hoes or just more powerful. It's just purely to make the reader get lost in a world where they themselves can be the hero. If regular blank mc guy gets sent to another world and is just treated like a Chad, then in their minds that can be them. Besides the blank slate thing, another option is if the author makes the MC a loser that either ultimately gets put with my above point with the blank slate protagonists, or they become better people to show the audience, who mostly relates with this loser, that no matter how hopeless you are, you can strive to be better. Ultimately, isekai is a form of portal fantasy that is basically associated with the animanga space, but just because the mc is sent to another world don't make it an isekai. Is the film Boy and the Beast isekai? After all, isekai is more than just the mc getting sent to another world, it's simply just a subgenre of portal fantasy as a whole, one that has all its own tropes, even if it's good or bad. So, just going by this, I don't really consider MAR to be isekai, it's just portal fantasy. I may be wrong, but sorry for yapping.

    Another case of people missing out on great books because of an aversion to reading books. To anyone who wants to enjoy more than the released few manga chapters, Foxaholic has been doing a great job translating the Web Novel which is now at chapter 371/552 with multiple chapters released per week.

    On the one hand, it's more likely the author never thought about it or it was cut for length. On the other hand, it's kind of awesome that Tia sees Ed again after 10 years and makes no comment whatsoever about him looking as young as when they first met. She's an elf, that's normal for her. After years of isolation she wouldn't have needed to remember that humans show their age so much faster than elves. Also, she's just so friendly that she gets caught up in seeing Ed again and doesn't brain. Such a good pupper. Funny that you mention wanting to go home as a motivation you'd like to see explored more _because_ too many MCs are lonely orphans. There was a period where every darn protagonist had the sole motivation of wanting to go home, but never explored it. This lead to reams of flat characters who gained everything they ever wanted and chose to throw it away because it wasn't "normal." Even I'm getting too acclimatized to lonely nobodies, despite my initial relief.

    I remember reading this not too long ago, and boy, it was truly a fresh experience. All I thought after finishing the most recent chapters was, "DAMN, HOW ARE THEY GONNA MAKE 99 MORE OF THESE ADVENTURES?" Surely it must get old after a while, but if they don't pull an SAO and skip 10 doors near the end, the endearing experience of such a long journey only to end in a world that has never known his achievements would be a powerful and proper ending for a concept like this.

    Thanks for the rec Mr. Randomly Fell Into My YT Recommends 🙏I read it at minute 2 of your video and it's great! The description of the manga and the speed at which stuff is happening suggests that going over many more worlds is the storys trajectory and that perhaps Ed won't have to go at it alone this time. It's a very very exciting proposition because Tia immediately seccured her place as best girl. A 100 year old powerful elf mage being such an energetic ball of sunshine is not something I've ever seen before.
