24:50. A lot of fans complain that the Lion Turtle is a deux ex machina since he comes out of nowhere to give Aang this new power, but that's not true. In what is probably the best example of subtle foreshadowing from this show, we did see drawings & sculptures of Lion Turtles throughout the show, & there were mentions of animals being the original benders, so the Lion Turtle being the source for this power Aang needed to defeat Ozai was built up in a way no 1 expected but works within the show's lore.

My favorite part of the series finale is the battle between Zuko and Azula, which I feel is also just the saddest ending to their relationship. In my opinion, Zuko and Azula are two different sides of the same coin. They were born in the same family, grew up under the same harsh treatment of their father, and yet, one of them ended up being a mentally troubled and power-obsessed individual, while the other found freedom and peace. Zuko could have grown up being like Azula, but his banishment and Iroh's influence saved him. Zuko had a loving figure in his life, Azula didn't. I think that's the tragedy. In the end, Zuko faced the person that he luckily never became; Azula faced the person that she sadly never turned out to be.

The 2 most emotional moments in this finale for me were 1) the choice Aang made in ending his fight with Ozai, and 2) Aang & Katara's kiss. Aang's choice in using the lion-turtle's wisdom in focusing on mastering the elements within himself and using that to redirect Ozai's bending power out of him and returning it to the sky was the most moving moment, though. That was just an INCREDIBLE choice in ending the cycle.

They are on their own. That was story writing perfection. The way I see it the Lion Turtle literarily exists between the spirit and real world; the Avatar is known to be the bridge between the real world and the spirit world. In other words, the Lion Turtle is almost like the spirit world equivalent of the Avatar. Aang is at a loss as to what to do and the world is in danger of getting out of balance permanently. The lion turtle senses his real world counterpart is in trouble and comes to help him out. He literally takes Aang from a place of loss to where he needs to be both mentally and physically.

I can see that argument but it felt so cool that I didn’t even care if it was random since hybrid animals have always been a thing but that ep made it seem like he was a forest god and in the ATLA world I didn’t even question it. However it is nice they hinted to its existence in previous episodes

Also I think people misconstrue what the Lion turtle did for Aang. It didn't give him the ability to energy bend, it just taught him the original way of bending. The lion turtle says "In the era before the Avatar, we Bent not the elements, but the energy within ourselves." So it implies that everyone is able to do it, but they've just forgotten how over time.

Also, we see the advanced form of every other type of bending. Toph has Metalbending. Ozai and Azula have Lightningbending. Katara has Bloodbending. In the same theme as those, what would be the logical extension for the advanced form of airbending? Spiritbending.

Proving once and for all u can use fun to fight the fire nation.

I always love seeing everyone react to the fight between Zuko and Azula. The music is so dramatic and sad, even though the battle itself is so epic. It's such a beautifully tragic fight. 2 siblings pitted against each other, forced into fratricide by adults who abused their love and adoration. 1 sibling grew up with love, and 1 grew up with only hatred. Their relationship truly is so poignant because from the show into the comics, Zuko tries again and again to connect with his sister, but she's so filled with hate from her adoration of her father, that it never reaches her.

I think, one of the most interesting things about this series is, that it is the B plot, that actually changes the world. Though Aang defeating Osai is important, but it did not end the war, and never could have endet it. This is a war, that lasted for 3 generations. The thing that actually ends it, is the fact, that the next fire lord is of a different mind set. Zukos and Irohs journey is what ends this war.

The thing I love about the ending fight? Ozai never had a chance. But you can never tell until after the fact when you think about it. Aang beat Ozai three times. First time, he had him in his sights with the redirected lightning and could have killed him. He chose not to, but he won the fight right there as himself. Then when the Avatar State is unlocked again, Aang just brutally dominates Ozai...and more importantly, had the willpower to pull HIMSELF out of the Avatar State in the middle of the fight - something he couldn't do before as he would continue until his rage was sated and target(s) eliminated or until Katara pulled him out of it. Then, in the final scene, he manages to completely incapacitate Ozai with earthbending in order to set him up for the spiritbending that took away his bending. Victory number thee (and you could split that in two because frankly, he'd been beaten as soon as he was locked in the rock as there was nothing else he could do anyway). Buit the writing and pacing and acting and animation are all so good, it doesn't feel like the complete one-sided decimation of a fight that it is. It feels like it's close even though it never was.

The thing about Zuko and Azula is that they're both traumatized by their parents. Iroh was favored because he was first born, so Ozai took that resentment out on his first born in Zuko. This caused Zuko and Azula's mother to care for Zuko more to compensate. Meanwhile, Ozai sank his hooks into Azula, causing a distance between her and her mother. But the truth is, Azula's trauma not only comes from her mother but from Ozai too. He never loved either of his children, but he needed one to serve and be loyal to him 100%, so he picked his second born. Azula's idea of love is not actual love, and it would never be. In the grand context of all of this, they're both just kids. She's 14, and was raised to be a sociopathic murderer. Zuko does not hate Azula, and I don't think he ever did. Even later in the comic book series, though he understands the danger she poses, there is also an empathy there too. Their character arcs are still some of the best ever written, in my opinion.

God, I just love the writing of those two characters. The most tragic character of the entire series is Azula, and I don't think Zuko ever hated her either. I haven't finished the reaction yet. I'm at Azula's emotional breakdown. As someone who also related to Mai's need to be quiet, poised and perfect during "The Beach" episode, the frustration and helplessness of Azula's breakdown in the finale hit me so hard it brought me to tears -- it caught me totally off guard the first time I watched it. I was watching Meesh intently during this scene and it seemed like she also empathsized. Along with Katara's unfiltered rage during "The Southern Raiders", these 3 scenes were the most emotional for me in the series. In a way I kind of measure my own emotional and mental growth and understanding of myself with how I perceive these scenes. With subsequent watches my reaction to each of these scenes is less visceral. Azula was only ever doing what she had been instructed to do -- she enjoyed it because she was good at it and received praise for carrying out her father's bidding. Ozai warped Azula's sense of love. She may have been cold blooded, but I always felt she and Zuko were examples of how our nurturance shapes us. Azula is a prodigy who her father takes to, while their mother is terrified of her. She's a perfect villain because she's complex. Azula is so well written. IMO, few characters in children's media are this well characterized. Zuko may not have been as talented innately, but this allows him room to grow emotionally and to learn from his mistakes with his uncle's and friends' love and guidance, which ultimately allows his bending to rise to (if not exceed) his sister's level. Azula doesn't make mistakes. She's a calculated master tactician. Seeing reactors cheer as her world falls apart always rubbed me the wrong way. The final Agni Ki is the result of the wedge driven between siblings by negligent parenting and ultimately signifies the dissolution of their family unit. Anyway, sorry for the ramble. I love ATLA and I'm so glad we got to go on this journey with you two. I cant wait for the Live Action and for LoK.

14:08 Maybe you misspoke but it sounded like you said, “when HE blocked his chi”. Aang didn’t block his chi. This gets confusing for a lot of people. When Azula hit him with a lightning blast at the end of book two, his chi point in his back (spine) was injured (damaged). This PHYSICAL limitation is why he can’t enter the avatar state. Aang reiterates this in an episode in book 3. I think it’s the “Nightmares and Daydreams” episode.

Can you imagine how terrified those fire nation generals on the airship must have been when Toph came in and metalbent the door and panels? They didn't even think that was possible and here is a little girl who just melded the door to her body and crawled on the ceiling. That's horrifying.

The look of disappointment on Aang's face as he traps Ozai the second time tells you he did not want to have to resort to taking Ozai's bending. Like "I gave you your one chance, but you wouldn't let it go."

I have absolutely loved your reactions! Thank you for doing this ❤ I haven't seen too many reactors tackle the comics, so I'd really love it if you did those too. A lot of stories are continued or expanded upon, including what happened to Zuko's mother and Azula's continuing fate. If you guys haven't, I really recommend you check them out. There are a bunch of different series, but the main line you want to get is The Promise, The Search, The Rift, Smoke and Shadow, North and South, and Imbalance. They also lay the groundwork for a lot of what you see in Korra. There's also one coming soon about Iroh and Jun 👀

Zuko saved Kitara, but he failed to direct the lightning around his heart, through the Sea of Chi, as uncle Iroh taught him. As a result, he has a scar similar to Aang's, as well as one on his foot from the grounding. The producers were incredibly detail oriented.

Sokka is my second favorite character (after Iroh of course). Not only did Sokka lead an assault that took down an entire Fire Nation air fleet, he also mastered all of the non-bending martial arts of all four nations. He and Zuko probably have the best character arcs in the series as well. Regarding the new Netflix series, it looks awesome. I really hope they don't match the animated series beat for beat. If I want that, I'll just watch the original series again. A lot of people don't realize how terrible it would turn out if (for example) they had live action Sokka act like he did in animation. I wish people would be able to enjoy both, even if they're different. Regardless whether they change something that I might have preferred they didn't, it's clear that they're giving the show the proper respect, which is what the "movie that shall not be named" failed to do.

What aang did to ozai was basically metaphysical lobotomy it’s a form of reiki where you link on to the person energy to discharge an energy point/meridian/ pressure point in the body to nullify or activate something without absorbing the other persons energy. He can do it because the lion turtle decalcified aangs pineal gland which is commonly known as the 3rd eye chakra

Zuko says in the very first mention of Azula that she was born lucky. But was the unlucky one . Zuko was lucky that he wasn't a prodigy like Azula so he wasn't raised by Ozai. He had Iroh , Azula only had Ozai. That's why she is like that.

Fun Fact: The final fight actually takes place on Aang'a 13th birthday. So he literally only just turned 13 for this fight. Which means he had less than 1 year to prepare for his fight with Fire Lord Ozai from the moment he woke up from the ice until now.

Another thing is that after being struck by lightning at the end of Book 2, Aang was no longer able to commune nor connect to his past lives. Meaning he could no longer use the Avatar state. He was able to meet and talk with them on the back of the Lion Turtle because he entered a peculiar state of being both in the world of the living and the spirit world. He regained his connection when the rock hit his back in his fight with Ozai.

Hey Meesh and Dee "Happy Wednesday ".I hope you two day are going well . Great final season. The action and fights was amazing. Sokka, Toph and Suki did their thing fighting off the Firenation soldiers. Katara taking over for the injured Zuko to defeat Azula. And Aang putting an end to The Phoenix King Ozai reign by taking his bending. To get an insight into Azula mental state first, having hallucination of her mother to being paranoid because of Mai and Ty Lee betrayed her. Some part of me feel bad for because Ozai warped her mind. But some part of me don't because of the horrible stuff that she done. To see everyone get their happy ending including Zuko becoming Firelord and working with Aang to build peace for the world. As well him and Mai getting back together and last Aang and Katara finally happened. Which I'm happy for him. Man Avatar produces some of the best characters. That I'm looking forward to the live action and hope it captures the magic that this show had. But anyway I hope you two have a wonderful day. Stay safe, take care and stay amazing.

Just because I haven’t seen it commented yet, one of the reasons Zuko was also so strong against Azula is because unlike Azula, he learned moves and techniques from other nations benders which he was then able to apply to his own bending. Azula fights only in the bending style of the Fire nation she’s grown up in, while Zuko adopted bending styles from the other cultures and incorporated them into his own, much like Iroh.

Just amazing :) I still feel Azula and Zuko's Agni Kai is one of the most beautiful on screen battles EVER! Also I feel like it's interesting that Zuko took Azula out of what she was doing by the tried and true move Iroh taught him and already helped him defeat Zhao in season 1: he broke her base.

This is one of my favourite shows 🫶 I really have enjoyed watching you guys react to this! I think most people got their happy endings or redemptions. It ended beautifully with how Zuko and the avatar healed the world, although I am very much an azula fan, I believe most people always go so negatively against azula. Don’t get me wrong she was disturbed and emotionally wrecked but I always hated that people had her on a pedestal of ‘crazy’ & ‘evil’ but always fail to say that so many characters who got their ‘redemption’ were just like her if not worse and they were not children. Deep down azula and Zuko cared for one another but were very jealous of each other and their relationships w the parents. Azula and Zuko are so much two sides to a coin, and people always fail to realise this fact. Both wanted the same things just in different forms. Azula was a child prodigy and so in turn was very much favoured and doted on by her father whereas not so much with her mother. Zuko had both uncle iroh and his mother to imprint some goodness within him and help him on his journey. Uncle iroh helped Zuko so much because he put his feeling of his son onto zuko so that he could save him because he couldn’t save his own son. In this scene where she breaks down and sees her mom, really shows how emotionally drained and disturbed she truly was. She did everything for her father and to stay in good graces and get ‘love’ from him that when he left her it broke her heart, and in given mai and ty lee betrayed her that was the final straw. All she knew was being cruel, ruling with fear even towards her friends who she did care about but was jealous of. In atla only 3 people it says could do the lightning (azula, fire lord ozai & uncle iroh), Zuko could redirect but never form the lightning. Azula has always been stronger then Zuko, it is a fact but he had learned other ways of bending and was very emotionally calm and collected unlike his sister. Her ending was truly tragic to see. I feel people don’t give grace to her but they do other characters who are just as bad, she was a child and younger then Zuko yet was very powerful, she outmatched most people with her raw power. I believe had azula been in her right mind in the fight he 100% wouldn’t have fought her alone, but because he realised something was off he challenged it himself.

19:27 I think pretty much every reactor I’ve seen tells Aang to go into the avatar state during this fight, but the thing is, he’s physically been unable to access it since Azula shot him. The lightning blocked his chakra, which is what allows the chi to flow through the body. In other words, he’s been chi blocked out of the avatar state all season, and I think the implication here is that he hit this (conveniently placed) rock with enough pressure to unblock his chi.

Aang being hit by the rock is happening... at the base of the spine. Remember the first chakra? One that deals with survival, and is blocked by fear? It was locked, and now it is opened again. Also I'm not entirely sure if this is true, but energy bending has to do with chakra's, I think, so if Aang had never learned to control all 7 chakra's, bending the Firelord's energy wouldn't have been possible.

i feel like they were really trying to make a point with the villains in this show. there are many scenes showing us their situation and explaining their lives. showing more than telling, because there is a lot to tell. you have to make a few deductions and use some basic hypotheticals to determine how and why people grow up or react the way they do, and what helps them change or keep them rooted in what they are. It feels like such a loss to constantly call Azula crazy. Like over and over. Iroh says this very thing, but he's making a concise point to agree with Zuko that he needs to reach her level to avoid injury, capture, or death. Although I wouldn't be against the briefest of rewrites to that line coming from a man as introspective and compassionate as he is. The best thing I can say is....Zuko was "crazy," but we didn't really call him that like it was his whole identity because the show paints his picture and process for us. Azula doesn't get that. And also, they aren't twins with identical lives. Circumstances work differently for Zuko to set him on a different path. Azula's circumstances entrench her further in her father's will.
