"THE FINAL BATTLE" - SIEGE OF TERRA
Ойын-сауық
"THE FINAL BATTLE" Written by William King for the 1990 lore and rules book "Realm of Chaos"
With the release of "The End and the Death" and the eventual new canon of the Emperors final duel with Horus, I thought it would be a fun trip down memory lane and record the first account of the battle!
-
The Siege of Terra, also called the Battle of Terra and the Siege of the Imperial Palace in Imperial records, is a reference to the final confrontation of the Horus Heresy that raged on Terra in 014.M31 between the Traitor forces led by the Warmaster Horus and the Loyalist armies of the Imperium of Man commanded by the Emperor of Mankind Himself.
The Loyalist forces ultimately proved victorious, though only just barely, and Horus was slain by the Emperor on the deck of his massive flagship, the Vengeful Spirit. The forces of Chaos were forced to flee the Imperial Throneworld in complete disarray. Over the next several Terran years they were hounded from their remaining occupied territories in Imperial space during the campaign known as the Great Scouring. Eventually they were forced to take up residence within the Warp Rift called the Eye of Terror.
Yet the Master of Mankind was mortally wounded in battle with His fallen gene-son and had to be interred within the cybernetic life support mechanisms of the advanced psychic augmentation technology known as the Golden Throne. Mankind would never again benefit from His direct guidance and leadership.

"Prepare to teleport! We will take the battle to the enemy!" - The Emperor
This was insanely good. The vision of the Emperor walking onto the bridge to see Horus standing astride the broken body of Sanguinius with the Earth framed in a giant viewport behind him, ripe for his conquest is more epic than the art work ever shows.
I really like this presentation of The Emperor. It makes him seem a lot more human and understandable, while at the same time displaying his power and the weight of his responsibility.
The terminator saw the emperor broken by horus on the ground and still charged without a second to spare, well knowing he will be obliterated. Damn... As always love your voiceacting!

Are we surprised when a bio-augmented superhuman in what essentially is a battle suit with the power of an aircraft carrier charges Horus? Not really, even knowing his power. But when a lone, comparatively frail, regular human with what essentially is a gun that shoots toothpick light beams charges the monstrous power that is Chaos infused Horus? Now that is something remarkable, and demonstrates the power of hope, persistence, and the human will. That to me is impressive, and worthy of all the honors the Imperium could bestow.

Nice dramatization of the end of the Siege of Terra Vox! What I like was the small details, like the fact that the Emperor and Horus for a moment knew during that final blast, that Horus himself had to die when he was freed of Chaos influence. Horus had become Chaos' avatar and that there was no return from being marked as such. Perhaps if the Emperor hadn't been so badly wounded, if Sanguinius was still alive and by the Emperor's side, if they could have restrained the Warmaster, the Emperor could have released Chaos' hold and have at least a moment to truly talk, father to son. But it was not to be. That cage of compassion was cast off. Thus the stage is set for the 10,000 years of stagnation. 10,000 years of suffering and eternal war. 10,000 years of suffering...all alone on the Golden Throne.
The pacing of this was immense!
This will always be my cannon of what happened on the twisted husk that was once the magnificent Vengeful Spirit. Superb rendition as ever my good sir 👏👏

Absolutely epic, no other way to say it. This is old lore/written story, right? I can see that, only because it’s hard to imagine anyone besides Adeptus trans-humans being present there in this telling, when I know in my heart that it was a lone, mere human Guardsman that ultimately stood in between Horus and The Emperor in that last moment.

It most certainly is old lore. 1990 I believe. It's been through a few retellings but this is the original
I can only imagine what the Emperor thought as he lay there, having flayed Horus of flesh, bone, blood and soul. "Is this, finally, the end? Do I get to come back from this? Dare I even? He was, in the end, my son after all, and I knew I had to erase him. No father should outlive his child, not even I, Master of all Humankind. But for the dream of Humanity, I gladly would give myself for my sons, and now, for the dream of Humanity, I had no choice but to kill the best part of myself."

Yep, had to comment for the extra. Seriously, amazing stuff. The voice work is just perfect. I remember reading this way back when I first got into 40k and thinking the description of the ship was so horrifying. I'm not as much of a fan of the newer lore twists. I liked the heroic sacrifice of the terminator. This lone veteran on a ship that has massacred scores that even had Emps with them died. But this one guy managed to get through it and with absolutely zero hope, seeing the crushed bodies of a primarch and the emporer this marine doesn't even hesitate. It both showed how like the baddest or bad ass marines in any other situation was a trifle to the forced involved. The depths of astartes devotion and how far gone he was.
Great work.. back to basics in the story I love it
