When this was made, around 100 of the "Few" were still alive. Now, in May 2020, only one of those gallant knights of the air are left. Very soon, they will pass from living history, into true history. Even with Covid-19, and all its history making, this fact on its own will be a huge, history moment. They've always been with us, the "Greatest generation", but we have to face facts, in the next 10- 20 years, if that, they'll be gone, along with their stories, and memories. They will take their place in true history. God bless 'em, every one.

I know this was filmed many years ago...as the men who actually flew during the battle only the one who was 20yrs old at the time would be 100yrs old or less...As a pilot myself for 30yrs I have an affection for the warbirds...with the Supermarine Spitfire Mk-VB to other variances, the Corsair F4U-1, P-47D Thunderbolt, P-38 Lightning and the P-51D Mustang topping my list...Thank God for the RAF...I enjoy this each time I watch it. Today we MUST recognize that world wide the generations that have followed "The Greatest Generation", at an ever increasing rate, have obviously not been encouraged to learn about their own history. It's gotten to the point that in to many countries a dangerously high percentage of us don't even understand our own cultures ! My father was sent into infantry combat in Europe just in time for the Battle of the Bulge. Her appraisal was that the "Spit" was a lady in the air but a b--ch on the ground. What was even more awesome was that the producers of the documentary brought the one plane, upon. which she had signed her name to the airport where she could be reunited with it. (Note: Ewan is drinking water. He doesn't drink alcohol. I don't either. A hot cup of tea would suit me just fine 😁. Couldn't care less about the beverage choice, however...). Well said Pawel. Yes, indeed, those Polish Fighters were brave men. I saw a documentary where one of Churchill's surviving "Few" was interviewed, and he said that the Polish flyers were like tigers. All they wanted to do was get up into the air and kill enemy pilots. He said that he had never seen anything like it in his life. And Pawel, don't forget the contribution the Poles made to the entire war in all of the armed services. Including the breaking of the German Enigma Code. It was Polish mathematicians that laid the groundwork for that code to be understood and broken. Great people the Poles.

The horror under the Japanese occupation could only be understood by those who had lived it. Britain was blessed with good leaders in particular its wartime Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. Reading his memoir 'Their Finest Hours' tells the horror and the determination the British people had to stand against tyranny. I wish these two airmen the best for their future and hope more British airmen would come to the defence of this peace and security so many have taken for granted.

Every time I hear the roar of the “Mighty Merlin” it is strangely soothing and thought provoking, remembering all those that paid the ultimate price for our freedoms, whether on the land, sea, or in the air. Some people forget or don’t know that the Merlin engine didn’t just power the Spitfire, it powered quite a few aircraft, including the Lancaster and the American designed Mustang, the Mustang engine being built by Packard and designated the Packard Merlin. That sound for me is the most powerful reminder of the war, not just the Battle of Britain, the whole war. I am fortunate in having spent most of my working life in the RAF and hearing the Merlin on a regular basis, I know live close to Farnborough airport and during display season my flat is directly below the glide path to the runway and get to see at close quarters many types of aircraft coming in for fuel etc, but when I hear that unmistakable roar it makes my day. RIP all those that gave their lives for us. Lest We Forget.

My grandparents were there when all this took place back in 1940. My family still lives in the south east of England. My hometown is between London and the channel so the Germans used to fly right over their house. It’s true that we the many owe so much to them the few. I am extremely proud of being British for so many reasons but at the top of the list is all of my ancestors that fought in WWII in every capacity. I pray that now that all of those veterans are gone that we never forget them. They spent their youth fighting so that we could have ours. I have taught my children all about their ancestors and the great history of out people and now I teach my grandsons about it. One of them came to me one day and showed me something I will never forget. He showed me that all of the great democracies of the world can trace their existence to England. USA, Canada, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, India, even France and the new Germany plus the other nations of Europe that were freed from the nazis by England and her allies. Another reason to be proud of being British. God save the Queen and never forget the men and women of WWII.

Nigel Westlake, if you have never heard the Roar of the Mighty Merlin engine that powered the Spitfire and many other aircraft in real life you should try and go to an airshow that has a Spitfire and/or Lancaster display, the experience is fantastic.

One of the best documentaries I have ever seen, especially with the McGregor Brothers, engaging with their growing up passions of these iconic Battle of Britain aeroplanes. It's a dream come true that so many of us would like to experience. Great documentary. Loved it.

Duty first, and pride for those that put it in that place. The world would be a very different place without the young men, living now or not, that gave their all in that moment, for us. All we can do now, is show respect. For we do not know, and can never fully comprehend what they lived through. Respect. Nice little doco.
