The Fight for No.10 | Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak face Sun debate

The Sun's Showdown: The Fight for No.10
THE Tory leadership debate was forced off air half-way through tonight when TalkTV host Kate McCann fainted in front of the candidates.
Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak were making their pitch for PM to Sun readers and the nation in a prime time showdown live on TalkTV - until the debate was cut short at 6.31pm.
The candidates continued fielding questions from Sun readers after the show went off air.
A News UK spokeswoman said: "Kate McCann fainted on air tonight and although she is fine, the medical advice was that we shouldn't continue with the debate. We apologise to our viewers and listeners."
During a fiery 30-minute debate before the incident, Foreign Secretary Liz Truss had promised to "relieve the burden on Sun readers" with a tax cuts bonanza.
But Rishi Sunak hit back branding her plans "morally wrong".
The ex-Chancellor accused Truss of cooking up fantasy promises - and said his priority was to bring down inflation.
He blasted: "I think Sun readers are sensible enough and have enough common sense to know that you don't get something for nothing."

Rishis ability to critically think, question the question, and articulate clearly what the result is / should be is what this country needs. Too many leaders today sadly just tell you want you want to hear and take the easy out on a question, whilst failing to speak clearly. This to me was the clear win: Incentivise and reward businesses that are reinvesting in this country to build a better future. Tax those that are not.

We do indeed need to invest in this country. The problem is that the tory party doesn't do this - there will be massive outsourcing to India and tax cuts for the rich. He held it together much better in this debate, probably because of how much and how badly he was criticised over his very poor performance in the previous evening's BBC debate. In the BBC debate his performance was dreadful, irritating, and rude. His fear and desperation were also so uncomfortably obvious. He was so overly desperate that he couldn't help himself constantly interrupting, talking down to and droning on over-explaining and waffling in a very aloof, arrogant and condescending manner. The NHS mismanagement of funds is a major problem. First we need a guarantee that they will keep Jeremy Hunt AWAY from the NHS after he tried to break it, let's not forget the strike he forced NHS workers into when he pushed and nearly imposed new work hours that would leave people not rested and at risk of causing harm to patients. 2nd any funds each trust gets should be spent as per the trust's priorities, it is outrageous that funds for art get spent on ugly eyesores when they could be spent on equipment or building structures and other more useful things.

All the taxpayer money goes into the military operations they do when invading oil rich countries. Funny after they destroyed those countries they have control and easy access to their resources so where does all that war booty go? I am no tory supporter, but having free ports is a 10/10 idea. When fuel costs rise, shipping costs rise, transport costs rise, which means business costs rise, in which prices then will most likely rise, being passed onto you the consumer, meaning you will have less money to spend as wages remain roughly the same - as the price of everything has risen. Business costs rise, your employer will probably not pay you more/enough to keep up with inflation - as it is unsustainable (maybe), eventually sales decrease, as people cannot afford to buy the items, business makes less money, they can no longer to afford or want to employ you, you lose your job, recession gets worse, bad downward economic spiral. Hard times. Proactive policies like free ports for example, reduce business costs, and help reduce inflation and promote growth by having the opposite effect. You cannot essentially prevent business owners from benefitting from things that benefit businesses. However remember that without businesses, you do not have a job. Sometimes things that benefit people who own the companies, also benefit people working within those companies and it is simply unavoidable to an extent. Anyone who says this man has zero idea is talking nonsense. For the love of god vote for this man please and put aside the past and the fact he's wealthy. The future is what matters and Truss has no idea how to effectively deal with this situation - but Rishi has at least half an idea.

  • @garyt.8745

Come on!!! Free ports _aren't their idea, in fact THEY themselves_ CLOSED all the free ports in the UK over the last 10 years!!! "The first free ports in the United Kingdom opened in the 1980s under Margaret Thatcher, as an attempt to combat de-industrialisation and a declining economy. Several free ports operated throughout the United Kingdom, however by 2012 the Conservative-led government decided not to renew their licences". All were closed on the premise that they were ineffective, and a hive of "money laundering and tax evasion". Sir Ed Davey, on the subject of free-ports, even predicted that the UK would "become the world capital of money laundering". Look at all that illegally gained Russian Oligarch billions that 'somehow', 'inexplicably' got into the UK over the last 30 years. Now they sell you the LIE that free ports were somehow "not allowed" when we were in the EU. Again, total lies! They were created in 1983 (in the Conservative "Challenge Our Times" manifesto, and guess what??? Yeah, we were IN THE EU. And guess what??? Most EU countries have _at least one_ free port (82 in total existed in the EU in 2020). Now even the, supposedly corrupt, EU is clamping down on those 82 free port zones after finding that "their special status had aided the financing of terrorism, money laundering and organised crime". So..... yeah...... maybe NOT such a good idea after all.

Do people even listen at all to what they are saying. Reading lots of comments about how good Rishi is, who just want to increase taxes and so on… Talking fluently with confidence does not equate competence. The answers Rishi gave on NHS seems elusive

Yes, Rishi's answers are vague, perhaps because he is tired of repeating the same answer he gave on previous debates. You mention raising taxes but the billions of Covid relief money has to be paid somehow. He mentioned on the first C4 debate that he raised National Insurance Contributions to fund the NHS and Social Care. If you want the NHS to cut the backlog due to covid, the money has to come from somewhere - either raise taxes or increase borrowing, the latter Rishi explains as being equivalent to paying on your credit card and expecting your kids to pay for it. Corporation tax was raised only for the top 20% of businesses, smaller businesses are unaffected.

Rishi sunak is the best person. He is kind, charming, honest, dedicated, pure hearted, family man, married childhood gf, knows economics back of his hand. Software engineer, economist worked in Infosys, Goldman Sachs self made billionaire. Good relationship with leaders of USA Europe India Russia China. Faced racism and hatred due to Indian race in all his childhood and adult. Face discrimination, hurled racial slurs on daily basis but determined to help UK and Brits without any hesitation. Absolutely gem of a person! Perfect with no flaws.

@@shreyakumarisingh2427 Not against proudly admitting he had no common friends though, dodging taxing with offshore saving, his wife has more money than him and she was doing the same thing. When the Russian sanctions kicked in, did they stop there investments in there Russian businesses? No. Sunak doesn't know his arse from his face. He ignored the rules of covid himself, came up with fines for people that he didn't get fined for himself. The list goes on. I want a leader who can get the manifesto done and not just because of there personality, if not at all. We don't need personalities, that's what tiktoks for not politics.
