“And to know that I would think it was wonderful”
"It was nice of him to give me the aroura" One of the greatest sentences ever spoken.
To see the technological advancement from Leonardo da vinci's air screw starting at 2:45 and end at a rocket propelling itself into space, is absolutely awe-inspiring.
Its a shame there aren't more people like him in the world.
"When I Heard the Learn'd Astronomer" is actually a poem by Walt Whitman. Regardless, I completely agree that science only adds to the excitement of knowledge; it can't subtract.

That's correct, and I think Joan is mischaracterizing the poem here without knowing it. The poem is actually a bit critical of science.

@@bobobandy9382 Right, the poem (I think wrongfully) characterizes science as something that removes the beauty from aesthetic pleasures by overanalyzing and dissecting things

@@NitaJain Yes it does, and I agree with you. I think Joan accidentally repudiated Whitman. :-) Great video here.
The ending (3:31) gave me chills; what a simple, and poetic ending to summarize the video while leaving so much unstated. Yes, Feynman had a gift with words. By his own admission he'd say that you don't truly know something "unless you can explain it to your grandmother." I've read many book on Feynman, but these videos are a special treat. Reid, you've done a tremendous job capturing the "soul" of Feynman. Imagine how many minds have been inspired because of how you communicate this man's life?
The reaction of the astronaut after he drops the hammer and the feather is priceless and such a perfect ending. Reid you really know how to put this stuff together.

ForeverTrombone His words are something like: "How about that! This proves that Mr. Galileo was correct."
This has been a long time coming. I discovered these videos when they were just coming out, and must have watched both series many times by now. I want to say thank you Reid Gower. Your videos have changed my life for the better. I do not know where I would be without them, so really, thank you from the bottom of my heart
A curious and amusing man left us his beautiful legacy.
Her voice!
In the end, the astronaut on the Moon performing Galileo's experiment and verifying that indeed a hammer falls exactly the same as a feather is just... so beautiful! "The inconceivable nature of Nature!" Watching this makes me feel life is worth it and that I am incredibly privileged for being alive in this wonderful, mysterious universe. Support science!

I love this video. It summarizes my love of physics, my reason for wanting to become a physics professor and my reason for wanting to get my doctorate in physics. I want to understand ever scientific aspect of our universe, how it works, why it works, and the consequences of how and why.
Dangit! You made my eyes sweat again. Such beautiful videos
Love this series. Another brilliant series of videos. Thank you.
beautiful stuff, well done again and Thank You!
The first time I heard this song I instantly imagined it going perfectly with one of your videos, so glad you used it!
Thanks for making these Reid.
This brought a tear to my eye, thank you!
"And *_ENDLESS_* distances... and great mysteries."
This video is beautifully made. But more than anything else what is beautiful about it is the viewpoint it sets you in towards the world. It also shows you this immense love between 2 people and reminds you what positive things humanity is capable of. It is hope that I feel. And it is so beautiful that it makes me cry tears of joy every time I watch it without fail.
watching this video was the best way to start my day. Thank you.
Richard Feynman will always be the person I look up to for answers about life. We need like another hundred of these video's about him, you make it so perfect.
Thank you for making these.
i really really really love this channel so much.!
thank you keep the videos coming
Your videos are TOO GOOD!!!
Dang this channel is really good. I look forward to finding more similar updated channels that contain beautiful clips and narratives.
This was absolutely amazing.
Your video editing is the best I have ever seen. How you manage to find such relevant "stock" video is beyond me. I love how you included the hammer/feather drop when Feynman mentions experimentation matching theory. Awesome!
The best one so far!
excellent. would love to see another sagan episode!
Thank you Joan.
Thank you for being the person to step up.
Great to see Joan Feynman getting some recognition. Not only did she do great work, but even the story she tells about Richard inspiring her, is in turn very inspiring to others.
Still giving me the chills.
More epic videos! Bring all the great army of scientists on stage! This is the best way we could spread their words. Thank you Reid. Thank you KZread.
I got teary eyed watching this! :)
I would do so much to sit in a lecture of his. Such a cool experience to even see it.
I think it’s warming to see hear about the Feynman’s relationship. It sounds like it was east to bring happiness to each other. Then Dr Feynman blesses us with an explanation of deductive logic and the scientific method. I really love this video for so many reasons.
You already sound like a wonderful parent! Share the knowledge of the world with your little one and foster any interests they may develop. They will grow up to cherish and share that knowledge, as well as additional wisdom they acquire. He/she will make this world a better place for us all!
this brought a tear to my eye i wish these two people have a better understanding of life and science than i could gain in three lifetimes. i cant even fathum. chills this video was inspirational
I could watch this a million times and not get bored.
Nice to know that Joan Feynman has the same passion for auroras that I do. What a beautiful clip. Back to Lights over Lapland.
Awesome stuff, keep on doing what you're doing.
Yay! I love these!
Absolutely inspirational.
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!
I'm glad to see so many like-minded minds on subjects like this. Made my day :)
Your goal to promote scientific literacy has been achieved. This series does nothing but increase my fascination with the heavens and science. Also, I feel I should mention again, your TED talk is amazing.
This is beautiful.
Great video
I am too late to discover this but I am happy that I found such a channel.
Nice one, thanks!
My favourite Feynman story concerning his love life is his 2nd wife, Mary Louise Bell, who said in the divorce settlement: "He begins working calculus problems in his head as soon as he awakens. He did calculus while driving in his car, while sitting in the living room, and while lying in bed at night." That's so Feynman :3

Great video.
You should include the Sagan series into the mix with the Feynman series. So much to be learned and gained from in unison.
Right now my son is two weeks old and I can't wait to share things like the Sagan and Feynman series with him over the next four or five years. Imagine if such concepts were readily made available to our children in preschool. It's both simple and simply beautiful.

How's your son doing now?
That was just... amazing. Just amazing. Also, Feynman's signature is gorgeous-- not how it looks, but what it says about him.
i can listen to this all day long.
This video really makes you appreciate the age we live in. The fact that we are slowly piecing things together, just to understand our place in the univers and the nature of nature.
Beautiful
science truly is more wonderful and mysterious and character-building and more real than anything humanity has ever come up with, but science is also the universe studying itself and that is the greatest mystery unsolved
And it's all... really there! That's what gets ya!
feel the energy when he says "TREMENDOUS MESSSS".....no one can be like feynman
My favorite video
I love the part when it shows the galaxies colliding. It's so awesome but terrifying to think about what goes on in space, but mostly awesome.
Two of my professors have had him as a professor and they both said he was horrible as an educator. I still love him.
Cool videos, thanks.
Symphony Of Science. Awesome.
amazing....
So addicted to this video (:
wow, I almost forgot to watch this today!
I didn't realize that she was the one who discovered what the auroras are. Thanks for the information. It's always good to have another Feynman fact.
How and where does he even find some of these pictures, videos and quotes? They are just amazing footages and quotes!
Same thing happened to me in 2003 in western New York. I took my dog for a very long walk that night : )
thank you!:)
RIP Joan Feynman March 31, 1927 - July 21, 2020
For a while I thought it was Richard's wife, but eventually figured it out from the transition of the vocals in this video..she had that same wonder and excitement, kinda like she talks just like her brother.
Greatest statement ever " it was nice of him to give me the aroura
Seeing this, Ya think Galileo would have pumped his fist... Cha Ching !!
Mother of Science! Why isnt this demanded by the schools and taught to everyone on the planet?
Search for the "Feynman Messenger" series of lectures online. That's where this clip is taken from. It's an excellent series and you will see what a ham he could be at times. He enjoyed telling stories in a way that would make the audience laugh even if he would sometimes pretend that they weren't supposed to.
Pure beauty.
Well said my man!!
ok, thank you so much, ive really been wanting to build my own computer and now that im starting to get a steady income ill be looking forward to using your advice =)
Not to mention the fact that in order to view this video, your internet browser communicates with youtube's servers at the speed of light retrieves the information and displays it to you. Then the real magic starts. Inside your brain the patters of information that you perceive through sound and image are converted into electrical signals and processed somehow allowing you, a conscious intelligent creature to feel the awe of the universe as revealed by science
My favorite part of this video was about when she talks about the aurora.
Wao...! . "If Universe is the answer, what would be the question?"
The part where the two astronauts poke up infront of the shuttle...get's me every time. :'(
Richard Feynman was the physics goat
what a genius guy!
An excellent biography of Feynman is Genius by James Glick.
U changed my vision
The truth is awesome, and arriving at the best of seeking it is no small accomplishment either. Therefore science is awesome. :)
