I used to work in the Training Center and was one of Garrett Goble’s Instructors’ when he first came to Transit as a Conductor in April, 2014. He was a good student. He moved up to Train Operator in 2017. Now retired, I learned what happened on the morning of March 27, 2020 in the news and I recognized his name as one of my former students. My prayers and deepest condolences to his family continue. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
This is my home station. Every time I see the remaining damage, I stand back and take a moment of silence.

Every-time I am at the station, it's jarring to see the burn marks.
I was on a R train just yesterday when a homeless pulls out a lighter and then tries to light the seat on fire. There were no people sitting there and I don't think anyone was harmed but I find it crazy that people attempt to do these sorts of things. also RIP Goble

yess big problem, most of this people have mental illness and are a clicking time bomb, it was overwhelming the amount of homeless people and other characters who uses the subway stations and trains as housing, i was a witness of all of this while living in New York years ago.

I think I had that motorman when I was on a subway I was going to Harlem back in 2018!! Rip
I still remember watching the footage from back then, where someone (possibly FDNY?) went down into the station and showed just how much smoke there was. Rest in Peace Garrett 😥
What separates a devoted operator from an ordinary driver is those who are willing to put their life on the line for the safety of the public. Many others would have left their onboard souls to perish but Garrett Goble did the opposite. It cost him his life but his namesake shall live on in infamy.
2 years ago, Garrett Goble will be remembered forever in our hearts and will neverbe forgotten, R.I.P. for him.
A man who sprang into action when others needed help taking no notice of how much danger they all were in. Running into danger to help others regardless of the risk is what I call a true hero! Rest in Peace.
That's is one of the most amazing young man I have ever met. Always professional, always well uniformed, courteous and pleasant. He didn't deserve to die like that, he is truly missed by all the transit family.

I was at the station today. You can still see the burn marks on the wall. I always get a sad vibe in that station. The smell still has a lil bit of fire. Almost makes me cry😢
Cars 6346-6350 were the first 5 NTT cars to be scrapped as a result of this fire, with all 5 of those cars damaged beyond repair. Cars 6366-6370 were repaired and return to service in late 2020.

Your subway videos are detailed, articulate, and well made. Could you please do a Stillwell Ave station tour?
I’ve been taking the 2 line for more than 4 years this is so deplorable that this happened I don’t understand why people do this the only your thing your getting is a punishment by god all I know is that my dad knew who garret was and he worked at the 4 train before then moved to the 2/5 line
Ooo that was a very very good video and you ended it perfectly ❤
I was one of the crew of MTA electricians who did emergency work in the station, right after the disaster. The level of destruction was unbelievable! On top of this, the covid 19 lockdown was declared in NYC a few days later! We as front line workers, were ordered to go to work. Crazy crazy time in my career

How haven’t i heard of this story. Smh. Rip
I find it really sad that not only did a Train Op lose his life, it happened on a NEW TECH of all trains. RIP Garret Goble, and sadly R142 cars 6346-6350. I hope that one day the trucks of those cars can be reused for the future R262’s. If not, perhaps 6346-6347 can be preserved at the NYC Fire Museum. Meanwhile cars 6366-6370 might be wrapped a memorial livery dedicated to Garret Goble, kinda like MCI D4500 bus 2185 was in dedication to those who perished on 9/11 after it was badly damaged from the collapse of the Twin Towers.
We will remember this and never forget.
Just imagine if this happened during pre-covid, especially during rush hour. Harlem is a busy area, and most likely the second car would be completely doomed, and even a man as noble as Mr. Goble(wow, that rhymed!) would not be able to evacuate all the other cars simply because there are too many people. Even more, imagine if it happened in the middle of the tunnel, so you can't leave easily cuz of tracks! R.I.P. to Garrett Goble.
How difficult is to drive a train and even worse, when a car catches fire and you don’t know what to do
as of june 16 2024 5 cars from that fire sit at the jerome ave/bedford park train yard i see them everyday and wonder what was the story behind it
It's a shame the fact that the car was so highly flammable is being addressed by the "system".
I DON'T KNOW IF PASSENGERS CAN WALK BETWEEN CARS ON THIS EQUIPMENT, BUT YOU CANNOT GO BETWEEN R44CARS AND NEWER CARS. WHAT IF THIS FIRE WOULD HAVE BROKEN OUT ON THE "A" OR "D" TRAIN 59TH STREET TO 125TJ STREET? PASSENGERS WOULD BE TRAPPED. I SAW THAT BRAKING IN ON "LL" LINE 14ST CROSSTOWN IN 1968. I WAS TOLD THE CARS WERE 65' LONG AND DOORS BETWEEN CARS HAD TO BE LOCKED BECAUSE GAP BETWEEN CARS WAS TOO WIDE ON CURVES. I THOUGHT, WHAT HAPPENS IF THERE IS A FIRE IN A CAR BETWEEN STATIONS? THE PASSENGERS WOULD BE TRAPPED. I WAS SURE TRANSIT WOULD NEVER BUY 65 FOOT CARS AGAIN, AND THEY DIDN'T. TA BOUGHT 75 FOOT CARS & DOORS HAD TO BE LOCKED. THAT THIS TRAGEDY HAPPENED TO THE T/O TRYING TO DEAL WITH THE FIRE, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN MUST WORSE IF IT HAPPENED TO PASSENGERS RIDING BETWEEN STATIONS. SIGNED OLD MOTORMAN, TSS

I'm pretty sure the doors open in an emergency and that they are only locked for the conductor to have space
I was actually there. My brother and I were back from a party and we were gonna take the 3 train to go home. I saw the station blocked and when I ducked I saw the whole station being burnt. I was so scared that I couldn’t sleep because I keep thinking of that. Anyways we later went to 96 street. Closed. So we had to a taxi. There was traffic in my road because a lot of people is using taxis since the subway is down. Very sad times

And rest in peace Garret goble.
STEVEN ROSHNI: LOTS OF LUCK ON THAT ONE. IF A FIRE BRAKES OUT ON ANY CAR EXCEPT WHERE THE CONDUCTOR OR MOTORMAN IS, THE CREW WONT KNOW ABOUT IT. EVEN THOUGH THERE USED TO BE A TRAIN LINE BUTTON AT THE CONDUCTORS & MOTORMAN'S OPERATING POSITIONS, THEY DIDN'T ALWAYS WORK AS DESIGNED & THAT HAPPENED A LOT. TOO MUCH SPACE AGE COMPLICATED STUFF. MORE COMPLICATED EQUALS MORE PROBLEMS. GIVE ME AN R32 WITH AIR CONDITIONING AND RUN THEM FOREVER. I OPERATED ALL CARS IN THE MUSEUM BUT GATE CARS & "Q" CARS WERE MODIFIED GATE CARS WITH SAME VERY SLOW BRAKES SIGNED: "OLD TIME C/R, MOTORMAN, M/M/I, TSS". PS: HELLO FELLOW TSS.
