Yeah, such a truly genius moment, when the singing starts - he does a momentary micro-expression of disappointment, because he was making a (chaste) move on the woman but the song interrupts it. Just fabulous comedy…

@@jamesadams6009 Well I think it's because Charlie and Paul knew they had a show loaded with catchphrases and returning characters and the danger of that artistically is that you run the risk of turning it into a bland mainstream show, what they did was take risks in sketches and some sketches dealt with more serious issues or sometimes there wasn't a gag in there at all. I'm glad they did

He was used to for years being the important person - the talent + always getting what he wants, when he wants (you're young! ..oh your almost child like, here what's that look like, hehe where's me washboard) - bits like that + him just bein nasty individual to work for or with - Ask poor ol Chester! ..+ as time moved on he became less relevant and his natural nastiness just naturally comes out (as it always has )

@@bennyblanco936 oddly i read in i think bob monkhouses memoirs about tommy trinder who was god on the music hall in the 40s then on tv in the 50s at the palladium.by the 70s and 80s he was doing warm up work for itv on one of bobs many quiz shows.although he was doing a fairly minor job he was insufferable rude arrogant treated the celeb guests like they were inferior to him and the contestants like shit! people actively ignored him as most of them only dimly recalled him but he acted like he was the biggest star on the planet .we never got into confrontation said bob i used him once heard how rude he was to the studio audience and how he dreadfully behaved in the green room after we recorded 3 shows together.i just never booked him again .he was a horrible man in his old age of decline he wasnt a nice man when he was famous and he hadnt matured well.the sad thing was no one had to sack him or anything dramatic like that he wasnt important enough we just never used him again.he probably sat at home wondering why the phone no longer rang with offers to vain to think it had anything to do with him!

I love his pissed off expression at 1:34 where he realises he has to sing instead of getting his end away!

I love these old black and white 1930's spoofs, this is so well done too.

Paul Whitehouse does the most hilarious send-up of Arthur Askey. he is the master of innuendo and double entendre. I never cease to stop laughing at this skit - it is one of the funniest things that has ever been broadcast.

He had seen some outrageously campy, swishy type in Hollywood, and thought it would be funny to put the type in the old west. Had no interest in it, himself. Lenny Bruce pointed that out a generation ago, but some see what they want to see.

You should hear some Julian and Sandy! Mind you, it seems like radio and records got away with the "newer" mediums of film and TV (never mind that primitive cinemas pre-dated radio). It was the same with with videogames at the turn of the century, they took far more flak than film did for the same sort of material. And comics have always been the soft target!
