Plus even if an adult rat does go inside they always use their tail as an anchor to hold on for stability. Making the trap longer takes away that ability to hold on to the entrance and easily make an exit once they get spooked.

I was pleased to see the review of this trap. I've noticed this style to be popular in the far east, the two chamber, funnel and trap door. I keep my spikes pointing along the lines of the funnel, not wider as your's is bent open, closer to the image of the trap at amazon link you provided. More along the lines of the fruit jar funnel you've previously reviewed. Also, I use a small tin in the second chamber to hold the bait. I know the instructions say to spread it on the trap door, it just didn't work well for me. I routinely will catch 2-5 rats/mice in the trap. For bait, I find dry dog food to be very effective, I've not had much luck using peanut butter. I started with one and have since purchased 2 additional. I know of a place about 2 miles from my house where there is a feral cat colony. When I drive up in the evening, the cats come out and I release the critters about 15 feet away and then it's off to the races.

@@fidelisguero Hi Fidel. I didn't have a huge infestation. So, I just used snap traps. I can't remember the brand I used, but they had a wooden base. So they were a little nicer than the cheap Victor plastic ones. Baited the traps with peanut butter as I learned from watching Shawn's channel, and set the traps along a wall underneath my covered patio. I have a ranch-style house with stucco walls, which mice find easy to climb up and down. When the mice came out of the attic for the evening to look for food outside, they found their way to the traps. Got rid of my mouse problem in a couple days.

Hey Shawn! Here's a trick to reduce the amount of rodent poop when recording video of them. Having had many pet rats, when it came to bath time I would put a bottle on each end of the bathtub so they stay on the edge of the tub. You start filling the tub with water, the noise of the running water make them poop like crazy. Makes them get it all out then, so later it's less likely for them to make a mess on video. Keeps their living area cleaner for longer as well.

So far, all I've caught in it are a few cowbirds, and I let them go. The starlings run off native birds from my feeders and kill native birds. If I lived in the 'wide open spaces' where I wouldn't have to worry about discharging a 410 shotgun, I wouldn't bother with the trap. Your rat infestation looks as bad as my starling infestation.

I have this trap but I had to order mine from England and it cost me $125. It was worth it though. Mine is called the Monarch Trap. A few nights ago I caught 5 juvenile Norway rats in there in one night. I then just fill a sterilyte bin with water and drop the trap in to drown them. If you let them go there will find there way back. It is also against the law to release non-native species into the wild. One thing to help this trap to work better is to take a drinking straw and put some peanut butter or rat bait on the end. then dab that bait to the metal trap door and the rats will try to lick it to go get into the second compartment.

They are invasive in the U.S. as well. I hope there is a way to get the nutria without the risk of catching the beaver.

Wow. The skunk strayed the opossum. Hopefully the opossum finds someone to take care of it so it’s not a stray for long :(
