A few thoughts about an old friend of mine, and the unique tapestry of life that each of us leads. The futility and shortsightedness of envy.

I once went to a wedding where someone wrote on a card saying, "Don't take life too seriously, there will be plenty of time for that later." I'm going to be 50 in 9 more days and I'm so thankful for the love, experience, and opportunity to do something better each and every day. Thank you for sharing your perspectives and stories!

Thank you Barry for sharing this story. Taking time to be thankful just to be alive and walking our own path is sage advice! I am sorry you lost a childhood friend. Life can be very strange. Somehow I outlived all of my friends except one. I never expected that to happen, and it often gives me a reason to pause and reflect. A friend that I lost once told me *”The most important work in your life is always ahead of you, never behind you”*. which helps keep me motivated. The message in your video is so true also: Time = Opportunity, this is a golden equation to remember everyday. In fact, I need to put this equation next to my alarm clock for additional motivation! ⏰ On a technical note… your U87 in the video sounds fantastic outdoors. It was capturing the rustle of the wind blowing through the trees in the distance which enhanced the soundtrack in a very subtle but pleasant way. The soothing sonic background blended perfectly with the topic under discussion. Well done as always! 👍

Thanks! I appreciate the comment, and good advice on 'The most important work in your life is always ahead of you'. It was a little breezy and I was concerned that the mic might be affected without a dead-cat on it, it's a bit wind sensitive. Fortunately it seemed to work out alright. I did have to wait for the chickens to settle down before recording, they were just going wild shortly beforehand. You can still hear the neighbors truck in the background. Haha. Thanks again.

Hey Barry, just recently discovered your channel, and I’m enjoying your videos very much. I’ve subscribed to your channel. Your technical videos, as well as these more philosophical videos are great! I like the easy, comforting way that you address all of these topics. With reference to this video, I’ve found in life, that sometimes we drift apart from people that we were once close to for a variety of reasons. I have to admit that when I was younger, I would sometimes get envious or jealous of others who had or did something, that I was not able to do or have. But as you have clearly pointed out in your video, and I discovered through many life lessons, it’s never good to be that way. We are all walking down different paths in life, and sometimes when we think the other guy has an easier path than we do, often we are in error. And more often than not we find our path was the best one after all. Thanks again and continue your great videos! I’ll be looking forward to seeing and hearing them.

Great advice. We all play the "what if" game at some point in our lives. I think if I had been in his shoes I would have definitely shot ya an invite, but then think, well if I had been in his shoes would I still be the way I am today.
